The Magnum 46 Power Catamaran, first launched in 2020, is the largest vessel in the Magnum Power Catamaran Range. The Magnum 46 was developed from the highly successful Magnum 36 Power Catamaran. The vessel has been re-engineered to allow for a greater waterplane area. This is to primarily allow for an increased load-carrying capability. Essentially, the waterline length and the beam have both been increased. Tunnel entry and exit zones have also been modified.
In order to reduce overall weight, the method of construction has been altered to incorporate the use of foam sandwich construction for all parts of the vessel above the waterline.
The in-house design brief was to improve on the performance and load carrying capabilities of the 36 foot hull. This has been accomplished. Initial calculations and sea trials returned performance figures that are an improvement on those anticipated. This hull is well suited to inboard power.
The new Magnum 46 Power Catamaran, like its predecessors, is built to endure the Cape of Storms. High-density foam fills certain areas of the hull. Deck layout is designed specifically to satisfy the needs of the serious fisherman. The walkaround cabin makes it possible to operate safely in a 360 degrees arc, even in challenging sea conditions.
The catamaran hull provides excellent stability with a dry and soft ride. Particular emphasis has been placed on following sea performance as the vessels in the Magnum Power Catamaran range. This is because the vessels typically travel extended distances in open waters.
