The Majestic Plastic Bag - A Mockumentary

Heal the Bay

14 жыл бұрын

Narrated by Academy Awards winner Jeremy Irons, Heal the Bay's "mockumentary" video shows the stark reality of California's plastic bag pollution situation. Heal the Bay, alongside a coalition of environmental and public health experts, pushed the State of California to pass a ban on single-use plastic bags: Prop 67 passed on Nov 8, 2017. But this plastic waste reduction legislation is only the beginning. Heal the Bay is on a mission to ban all single-use plastic.

Excellent! I haven't used a one time use plastic bag for 20 years, only cloth. I always say no to the store clerk when they try to give me a bag (I'm glad they're asking), I say "no, I'm trying to quit!" and pull out my reusable bag. I get a smile and clerks are starting to ask now. I do wish this mockumentary would have shown the thousands of animals that die from ingesting plastic, or photos or the very real garbage patch, but I understand they wanted to keep it "light". Effective-thanks!

It depends on what your goals are, and how sturdy your bag is. I've been using the same shopping bags for groceries since I moved out on my own, roughly 18 months ago. Instead of 200 plastic bags, my groceries during that time have been packaged in TWO reinforced recycled bags. That's a huge difference, and IMO if people started carrying sturdy reusable bags with them everywhere, we'd see less garbage in landfills and oceans and less petroleum&water used on manufacturing a throwaway item.

I am a California transplant.....Went to school in Huntington Park, Calif. since the 5th grade in 1964 to HS graduation in 1971.....Climbed the mountains of the Sierra and the deserts in the late 1970's.....I am now almost 61 years old and live in Miami, Florida, but the Southland is still my home....It will always be my home......California continues to be NUMBER ONE in environmental protection, and that makes me proud.....What happens in California spreads to the entire nation....Here in Florida, cars use unleaded gasoline and have catalytic converters thanks to California's pollution standards from the 1970's.......Car companies and oil companies had to change their stubborn ways and make cleaner cars and gasoline for California, and because of California, the whole country reaped the benefits of cleaner air......( They were not going to make clean cars for just one part of the country ) .......So keep fighting for the environment there as we also do here in Florida.......CM González, ( Sierra Cuban ) Miami, Florida, Estados Unidos de América

***** I'm unclear on what you mean by "it's rubbish." If you are saying you think this is a stupid video, I have to disagree. I mean mocumentaries might seem like a stupid thing, but really they are pretty hard to pull off, and are, in my opinion, comically genius considering the principle is to poke fun of something, make it funny, yet use documentary techniques so it needs to look serious, and the actors need to sound like they aren't in on it. This video I think was very well done, and it even had a promotional message in it.

This video is hilarious and yet, sadly true. Plastic DOESN'T belong in the ocean. This was a very original, funny way to convey this message, and having the great Jeremy Irons as the narrator makes it 1,000 times better and funnier. :)
