@@juap the critics were very harsh with the movie and also didn't made a lot of money. That's why we didn't get a sequel. In fact, the band itself referred to this in their song "Rize of the Phoenix" and if you watch the video you can see JB fighting movie critics with a sword.

13.8 million but budget was 20 million. No idea if it's made it's money back with DVD, Album and TV deals
@Kareszkoma6 жыл бұрын
I think the movie failed very hard financially. Imagine that the ticket sales brought 14m only at the end. Still 6 million till the budget of production. No marketing etz yet. Horrible. It was a really good movie. But I think the movie placed them onto the world, onto the common sight of the market. Which probably increased their sales and collected a lot of fans too. Think of later movies, that were watched just because he was in it. Like Rock School. Later they even released a game which EA published, and all of them did very well. They had very big concerts too. So overall I think it put them on the radar which is good.

Probably.

Something happened with this movie at the release maybe internationally. Here in Spain I didn't know about it, and even after watching the opening of the movie (the song with Meat Loaf), I thought it was a normal video clip, not a movie. Fortunately the Internet brought all together and I could enjoy the movie and I think time will also give it the place it deserves

I believe I was 6 when my dad and I watched POD on dvd, and ever since my dad kept saying that I was their #1 fan. I think I have watched the movie more than 100 times and I know almost every single line in the whole movie. My dad's dream was to meet JB and KG but unfortunately he has'nt even seen them live... My dad was aged 50 when he died, 3 years ago, he never had the chance to meet his idols or even see them live. I want to fulfill his dreams for him. 2 years ago when they were in Amsterdam I saw them live for the first time and I cried. I fucking cried. for three days straight. I loved to show, I loved everything about it. But I was also very very sad because my dad was'nt there..

It's so sad that this movie was bombed by critics. I don't say this a lot since it's such a vague term, but this is easily one of the most soulful movies I've ever seen. It's seeping with the pure passion of everyone involved with it, not just for the movie itself, but for the entire history of the D. I could watch it endlessly and never get bored of it.
@loversandlosers Жыл бұрын
So true. I mean it makes sense stuffy “movie critics” wouldn’t understand a movie like this. It’s in the same vein of Rocky Horror Picture Show I feel, initially panned by critics but ends up lasting the test of time because of the passion and genius of it
@mytrigger5613 Жыл бұрын
I don't see any sadness in critic's bombing of this movie, rather, I think the more hate, the better. This movie is not for everybody, and if it were, it probably means it sucked. They could have gone that route and thrown a whole new sappy narrative together with a love scene and then had blink-86 come on and do some new album plug and down the line anchoring to some corporate plugs for funding, but it's rare such a great movie comes along without any whoring.

I loved this film and think it is so underestimated as a great musical. As much as the critics panned it during its release I think a new generation had discovered it and appreciates it more as a whole. When I saw it in the theatre it didn't fair well but to the fans of the band. I think the tide is turning and it will be remembered fondly. POD and The Blues Brothers are classic musical comedies that both stand the test of time.

A few things about this movie: I was in 6th grade. Just got my footing in my musical tastes. Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, etc. Found this movie and fell in love. I watched it so many times that I can close my eyes and watch it on the back of my eyelids. I blame it for my desire to seek out psychedelics, of which now I am an avid fan as well.

A nice trip down memory lane. I used to like this movie and the D a whole lot, and still do to an extent. It came out right before my 14th birthday so me, my twin brother, and a bunch of friends went to the theater to see it. Good times.

I LOVE this film. I'm a 51 year old school teacher and I adored it when it first came out and still do today. It feels like a love letter to the fans, all of the references, innuendos, nods, and attention to detail. Long Live the D! Trying to tickets to their show in Paris in May 2024.

I shoot and move on to the next project. I'm not involved in the edit. Back in the day, if you didn't buy the DVD, you never saw the bonus features. Now we have KZfaq to thank

This movie forged my childhood, my big brother and I used to share a room as kids and we would jam and fall asleep to the Tenacious D album every night on our bunk bed, then in middle school i quoted the movie at least 2x a day
