The Man Who Knew Infinity is a by-the-numbers biopic, but it has a lot to say. Unfortunately, by following the standard Hollywood formula, the inaccuracies add up. Every variable in that formula could have been changed for accuracy to make this a better film, but the spirit of the man depicted is still within its form.

Wiki:
The Man Who Knew Infinity is a 2015 British biographical drama film based on the 1991 book of the same name by Robert Kanigel. The film stars Dev Patel as Srinivasa Ramanujan, a real-life mathematician who after growing up poor in Madras, India, earns admittance to Cambridge University during World War I, where he becomes a pioneer in mathematical theories with the guidance of his professor, G. H. Hardy, portrayed by Jeremy Irons.
Filming began in August 2014 at Trinity College, Cambridge.[4] The film had its world premiere as a gala presentation at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival,[1][5] and was selected as the opening gala of the 2015 Zurich Film Festival.[6] It also played other film festivals including Singapore International Film Festival[7] and Dubai International Film Festival.[8]

@@busybee6889 I'll add an important point. Unlike other geniuses, science and mathematics were diversions for Newton, his primary purpose of life being a personal experience of the mind of God as expressed through the form and character of the Universe, and I strongly suspect he had his nose buried in the Bible and other (alternate) 'theological' texts for most of his waking hours most of his life. The time of writing the Principia is when he seemingly devoted more hours to maths/science for 18 months than his own form of theology. The man takes the cake.

@@luxinvictus9018 I agree with what you say. Pushing the 'greatest' tag is not the way to understand super intellects; I did so to 'provoke' an intellectual conversation. My main point was the sheer speed Newton's intellect could manage, and that this proficiency was directed into biblical studies for most of his life, whereas most geniuses devote their thoughts to their fields of expertise.

Today the minute you portray an exceptional individual who isn’t be in fiction or real, the gallery in the cheap seats will immediately start to call it “woke”.

Biggest alteration in the real biography was the age of his child bride, which they obviously changed to make socially acceptable. She was too young and then World War II hit and blocked her coming to join him when she was old enough. I felt sad for him because with his wife then he wouldn't have been so alone and would have had someone dedicated to taking care of his body in order for him to use his mind. They also dramatized aspects with his mother's relationship. -- There are lots of really good factual biographies about Ramanujan to watch for more accuracy and explanation. -- We are techie types and husband was a math major,. We enjoyed the movie!

One thing I dislike about scientific biopics is how much they centralize discoveries. Science and mathematics is a hugely collaborative effort. Hinduism is not manusmriti. That is just one doctrine, which you may or may not abide by. Hinduism has always had many different schools of philosophies and teachings and people get to decide what suits them the best, be it samkhya, nyaya school or dwaita or adwaita school, tantra or yoga etc. Stop spouting your half knowledge crap about Manusmriti dictating how a Hindu should live. @@mageshpandian6449 It’s a play on words. There’s an expression in America to refer to someone or who is good looking. An example: She’s a hot tamale. (That’s the expression.) I changed the word “tamale” to play on “Tamil” and combined the words into “Tamili”so that it would reflect the fact that she was a good looking woman of Tamil heritage. Yes we know Hollyweird takes liberties when "telling" a story. I still like the movie and felt like they did a good job of capturing the essence of the man and the times. One of my favorite dialogues is this..."Hardy: You see, I'm what you call an atheist. Ramanujan: No, sir. You believe in God. You just don't think He likes you." You did a good job here with a few factual errors. Beginning with the name of the book and movie which is "The Man Who 'Knew' Infinity" not "The Man Who 'Saw' Infinity".The other errors are addressed in earlier comments. Overall I would say a B-...

That line is one of the most common theistic narratives about atheists in the world. It is only accurate for a portion of non-believers. For the countless secular people who don't even care about a god, it is a complete lie. Believers _love_ this idea that non-believers "hate god" because so many of them can't afford to believe that non-believers actually exist. They can't afford to believe that non-belief in a god is not a foundational belief about existence. The belief that a god exists _has_ to be universal in order for a lot of believers to feel validated in their own beliefs about their god and its nature. It's really sad. That line from the movie was one of the most, or probably the most, explicit jab at non-believers in the entire movie. edit: In fact, I'd say that at least half of the message of the movie, if not the primary massage of the movie, was basically promoting theism and making believers feel validated in their beliefs. If you paid attention to the philosophical arguments made throughout the dialogue, you'd realize that the whole movie is one big argument from ignorance.
