In regards to the tracking fob, I believe it's connected to the "chain code" that's been mentioned a couple times. Some sort of number set that allows you to input details about the target, such as age and species. The Client is only able to provide "the last four digits" which was Baby Yoda's age. The tracker then scans for life forms that fit the parameters of the chain code, and leads you to them. I'm assuming if you have a complete chain code, the tracking fob will focus in on that life form specifically, like when The Mandalorian found the Mythrol in that cantina in Chapter 1.

This episode may have felt mostly like, "filler," but it really served to build upon the personal relationship between the Mandalorian and that baby, you know, develop the characters and their relationship with each other so whatever happens in the future will have more of an earned, invested impact. If they'd have jumped directly to the Mandalorian deciding on whether or not to turn the baby over for the bounty, there would be little or no connection between the two of them, so there'd be less weight to his decision. (I can see people saying, "He just met that baby, why would he care what they're planning to do with it?') But, allowing their bond to strengthen by giving them an entire episode's worth of time together, whatever he chooses to do will automatically have more significance to his own, and the baby's stories, and especially their story together. (Does that make any sense?! lol it's easy to picture, difficult to explain.) 👍😂

I have personally loved both episodes. I know people say it’s filler but I found his vulnerability that was shown in this episode to be refreshing. I’m sick of characters being hella busted and never failing, so seeing him get surprise dropped by some Jawas was nice to me. He’s still a badass, but he has weaknesses. The length of this episode was concerning but I think it’s shorter because they released 2 episodes this week, so I’m hopeful for the following weeks that they will be longer.

The whole scene in the first episode wih the armorer/blacksmith was set up as a religious or spiritual scene. It definitely seemed like a holy place and the armorer was a holy person. The Jawas defending their crawler against Mando kind of humanized him enough to make Boba’s “demise” feel more plausible, in that not everyone’s situational assessment is all-seeing. Also with the egg, it’s probably a kind of metaphor for the child and it’s carriage. Give savages what they want and their plans for it will be less than civilized.

I think the most logical explanation. Is that there are two separate bounties set by two different people. Possibly the other officer from a different Imperial Remnant sect has also hired bounty hunters. But unlike the people that hired the Mando, they instead have been hiring bounty hunters to kill it.

If you think about it, a space ship would be the equivalent of a horse in western movies. A horse was a person life, especially if the were nomadic. Stealing a horse was a death sentence because by stealing the horse you sentenced the owner to death. So stripping a bounty hunters only mode of transportation leaving them stranded on a back water with no resources is a death sentence to the bounty hunter. So using lethal force is really defending your life. From a certain point of view.

Really great episodes so far. I won't repeat what pretty much everyone else has already said but one thing I am surprised about is that they havn't been giving the planets they have been on names (at least not that I am aware of). Usually Filoni and (star wars narratives in general) are good about naming every planet that is a part of a said story. You would think that this was supposed to be Tatooine in Ep. 2 but it hasn't officially been stated as far as I am aware.

I was a bit disappointed the episode was shorter, and not the same length as the first or longer, but it looks like they are making the episodes just as long as they need to be. May as well, since they don't have to fit into a broadcast TV timeslot. They are taking advantage of the same thing with season length. And yes, quality over quantity. Did not expect to see disintegrations! Interesting that shells are required for that, so he can't spam that endlessly. And yeah that rifle is badass and versatile. Got to say I did not expect to see the Jawas here and have an extended sequence with them. We really got to see them and their sand crawler up close and personal, and even hear what they had to say. We got to know Jawas more here. I thought it was hilarious that they were so unbothered by the Mando disintegrating so many of them and were willing to do business. And all that they wanted was a gross furry egg to eat gluttonously. I didn't see the egg as foreshadowing and just thought he was disgusted at the Jawas and thinking to himself, "really, this is what I went through all that for?" I could listen to that sound track for days! The Mandalorian theme or whatever it is, is awesome! The credits are great for that, and the art! I hope it gets released to listen to! I don't know if anyone else got this impression, but I got major Samurai Jack vibes from this show. The Mando goes on this mission to do this one thing, and then one thing leads to another and he runs into all these colorful casts of characters and gets wrapped up in all this craziness. Also how he doesn't say a ton and gets guidance from locals, and the general mood and atmosphere of it. The mostly dialogue free action sequences etc. Great show so far!

Baboda? Yoby? Yittle? Yodel? I've seen a bunch of great names. I think the tracker is keyed to genetic markers. Hence it's unique but severely limited range wise, hence you still need a skilled tracker to get you close.

Regarding the trackers, in Chapter 1 the Mando dumps a few of them on the table when he brings in his load of carbon frozen bounties. So that must be the way they track all bounties but it's kinda scary if everyone has a low-jack tracking chip embedded at birth.

I think when Kuiil says "I hope that baby stays alive and brings you a good bounty" he already knows that the Mando is invested in saving this kid, and he's battling with that decision. It's his passive-aggressive way of saying "you're really gonna sell that baby?" .

I think everyone can be tracked in this point in time. Every bounty he has had has a tracking fob. The way it works is you enter in all their information to find them. (He only got today’s age) in the first episode. You would just need all their information and last known position to track them.

The trackers (as mentioned in the first episode) only give the last known position. If you listen to the beeping of the Trandoshan's tracker, it's not beeping as fast because the last known location of Baby Yoda is still a distance away. You'd expect the tracker to be beeping frantically like the Mandalorian's did in the last scene of Chapter 1, but it isn't. Love the chapter by chapter breakdown, can't wait for next week!

On the subject of what Nick Nolte Ugnaut said about Baby Yoda at the end, he didn't say specifically turn it in for the bounty... he said "May it survive and bring you a great reward." I think he might have meant that in some cryptic meta storytelling way suggesting that it would bring him a "great reward" but maybe not in the form of money, but perhaps making him grow as a character and to make the right choice in the end.

One thing I liked in this episode was that they hit on the beast hunter trope from EU Mandalorian culture, as well as the indomitable spirit that was a staple for Mandos in the EU. Two things... 1) The Mando's main weapon has to be a Disruptor Rifle. I think it's in the Jedi Academy game where I remember them mentioned, and described as outlawed throughout the civilised galaxy. Most recently seen in 'Droids in Distress' S01E03 of Rebels. 2) I've been assuming that the other bounty hunters after baby Yoda (Yodle) have been sent by other Imperial factions, possibly including Moff Gideon. Now, if we assume that IG-11 has re-booted in a backup body, then he'll probably be tracking Mando and will follow him back to The Client, probably bringing Gideon in tow (That shot from the trailer with his death troopers looks like the same town as The Client's). Perhaps Cara Dune is tracking Gideon on some form of revenge mission (from being a Rebel shock trooper), so assuming that a fight breaks out between the Imperial factions, Mando might find her as an ally of convenience as he did with IG-11. That's how my action figures would play it anyway :)

This episode was enjoyable, and I loved it. It was one that felt like "filler" since it felt like a lot of details and stuff that I'd feel is normally glossed over. The fact that we went through all this good character building and action had to be significant. I really wonder if the whole series will revolve around Baby Yoda, or if it'll be wrapped up next week and we move on to another bounty.

Why have absolutely none of the breakdowns I’ve watched mentioned the knife he uses to kill the mudhorn, the blade was vibrating making it almost translucent. First live action vibroblade

According to Emma Fyffe on last week's episode of Jedi Council, it's pronounced Kwil, like a quill pen. She was working the red carpet at that premier where they had a Q&A and showed the first 3 episodes and that's what they told her.

I bet UgNolte is happy to help the Mandalorian because he knows more about the baby than he tells. No one is that grateful with somebody just because they "brought peace to a valley", my bet is that he knows that baby Yoda is an important piece of a machine that he is a part of.

I love the pure respect that him and Ugh Noltey(haha) show each other at the end of the episode. Mando offering him a job and Ugh refusing it because he wants to do his own thing and be at peace on his farm. Mando trying to compensate Ugh and him refusing any payment, and both thanking each other and meaning it. I was really expecting one of them to say "Goodbye...friend" when Ugh got on his animal to ride away.

Calling the Mandalorian's client "The Empire" is a bit presumptuous. Its entirely possible that this particular former imperial has a plan, or scheme involving the baby yoda that some other former imperials are trying to prevent. Also possible that other imperials just want the baby yoda dead because of what he is and have no knowledge of the client's scheme. It makes me think that maybe the death troopers we saw in the trailers show up to deal with the Mandolarian's client because of his successful acquisition of the baby and maybe the Mandalorian defends the client and takes out death trooper leader for more Beskar.

Does anyone else get a little vibe of Homer's Odyssey from this show, with the Mandalorian's primary journey being sidetracked into these unusual side quests? I wonder if that will be a regular theme of the show. That would be kinda cool.

i agree that i think he will turn the bounty in, but i disagree that he will later realize he should not have done it. i think he already knows that he should not do it, but he is going to use the empire to get more bounties to complete his armor set. then once he is all armored up he rescues baby yoda from the empire

I can see IG11 being the antagonist of the series. Trying to collect his bounty and take it back from The Mandalorian, and he would be trying to keep it away from it and the other people who want it.

One thing that begs explanation: on Tatooine, mining prospectors happened to leave sandcrawlers behind, and Jawas happened to live on Tatooine and happened to appropriate the left-behind sandcrawlers. Why does the EXACT same set of circumstances exist on The Mandalorian's desert planet of Arvala-7??
