My personal favorite version of the song. It's hard to watch this one because my mother was a single career woman of the 70s and very much resembled MTM. She passed in 2021 and I still miss her. 😢

Same with my mom. She looked like her, sounded like her and had a heart of gold. And I'm a guy who looks just like her. Lol. Her neighbors cried when I showed up to her home after she died. One almost lost it and thought I was her ghost, and I had a goatee. Lol

What inspired me about this intro was seeing a person clearly enjoying her work, then having the means to go out and shop for little rewards for herself. That’s all any of us wanted (and still do).

That woman standing in the background looking at Mary Tyler Moore when she throws her hat . That was Hazel Frederick.... She got to meet Mary in person many years later at Mall Of America. Hazel just accidentally got in the opening credits that day as she was shopping downtown.

I was just a 5-6 year old kid back in 1973-74, when this show was first broadcasted on television. Yet, I still remember the images and melody of this intro! I was too young to understand the show at that time period. My world was ice cream, popsicles, pop tarts, Mr Roger's, Sesame Street, and Hanna Barbara Saturday morning shows...! I had no idea who President Nixon or John Lennon were! Yet, I remember the images of Mary Tyler Moore in this show's intro just as I remember the images of the Donny Osmond family and Mr. Rogers and the Brady Bunch....!

She totally represented the middle class America. One job, decent housing, decent car, groceries in those days were attainable for almost everyone. How did we get from that to the America of today. Overworked middle class, barely making to the end of the month. Those were the golden years, and I doubt they're coming back. Lucky are the ones who lived through that... And yes, the best sitcom song opening or at least the top three. We miss you MTM, and those days.

The clip where Mary annoyedly tosses a pack of meat in the shopping cart, clearly exasperated by inflation's long reach at that time, still makes me laugh! When I'm at the supermarket and I see the price of bacon now, I can't help not think of that scene. Funny!

I got to meet Valerie Harper (Rhoda; actually had tea with her, & got to speak to her a bit after the official campaign event tea back in 1992). Harper did relate to me and others that opening was really demanding for both her and Mary due to the fact it was actually filmed in Minneapolis & the amount of crowds at that setting was huge (I think I remember her saying that the two of them had to keep walking down that sidewalk a good 30 times before the director got the best version of it).

Brilliant childhood memories of watching MTM, and then Rhoda. Rhoda was the best though, absolutely! No question, life was much simpler and much better then - who really needs digital this and digital that? Somehow we managed without them. People were more honest, and actually had integrity back then; now the world is awash with shallowness, selfishness, and me-me-me. I'm saying the world was a better place then....except of course for the oppression, prejudice, and inequality that was all around; not anymore though - but is that really true, or is it just that today's higher level of sophistication, fake news, and media manipulation makes it easier to obscure the fact that these issues have never gone away, in fact they've multiplied out of all proportion if you look closely enough. If you don't mind though, in the meantime I'll just drift off for a while and dream of arranging to accidently bump into Rhoda before Joe gets his chance!
