I agree. I got to admit, I was propped on board with all the ideas and weirdness up until the point where they went back to save trinity. I feel like there was a lot cut out of the last 1/3 of the movie. It could of worked better as a 3 part mini series or something before doing another movie. I wanted to know more about the machine civil war and the death of Morpheus. I also think we needed more of a look into what trinity’s life had become instead of it being completely focused on Neo. I think it’s going to need another viewing to appreciate fully what they tried to do.

Yep. It was all thrown together as a nostalgia trip (to make money). Despite their best attempts to mock that approach and convince us it wasn't the overall goal, the ad hoc nature of the films shows it completely was. No consistency, no continuity. Look at "Smith", he was just there erratically. Saving Trinity was erratic. Niobe was erratic. IO was erratically explained. Which machines rebelled and didn't was erratic. Neo's powers were erratic etc etc Someone wrote "great in the abstract but terrible in the execution". And it's the perfect statement

It felt like it was full of matrix ideas but literally turned them all into a joke instead of taking them seriously, felt super weird like a fan fic or a what if scenario. I would’ve enjoyed it except for the expectations WB set up with the trailers (and all the precedent in tone from the original)

in the scene where smith talks to neo about making matrix 4 and he said the mother company warner brothers are gonna make it whether with the old crew or not, it felt like lana was trying to tell us that WB forced her into making that new movie and that hollywood is really out of ideas and content and they are making stupid descisions.
@theatog
@theatog 8 ай бұрын
This is amazing. I would like to think that lana deliberately made this bad but still good enough to pass the eyes from the people up top just to make sure the end result is not profitable and kill the WB's will to juice it. If I think about it that way, I think matrix 4 perfectly did its job.
@Benderbot50
@Benderbot50 4 ай бұрын
that was exactly how my friends and I understood it after watching the movie when it came out. Especially when you consider that Lana had to do it alone it makes a lot of sense. I think it's only natural for one person to throw their hands up and move on and for the other one to try and do whatever they can to protect their shared legacy. I suspect that maybe Lilly had gotten what she needed out of doing the IP and didn't care what WB did with it. Lana was probably more attached to it and wasn't willing to walk away and let WB ruin their vision

The idea that Trinity is resurrected in the Rebooted Matrix and now an Anomaly and co "The One" is a ridiculous story. Now the Agents are going to say "The 2 love bird anomalies, but they're still only human". No wonder the real Morpheus and Smith probably said "I'm staying away from this version, it's getting really silly". Next will probably be Neo and Trinity's Wedding in Matrix 5. 1 Star rating for me.

@shawn8eattie There should only be ONE HUMAN who is "THE ONE" in this story. That's what made this franchise so great and successful. "THE ONE" falling in love is fine. But they screwed up making someone else TRINITY THE ONE. NEO was born with the gift to withstand and win a physical battle with the agents. They took this love affair too far then writing in a 2nd "THE ONE" Flying around like it's another day at the office. They totally destroyed this great franchise.

Because both Neo and Trinity died at the end of the trilogy, Resurrections needed to open showing more of their resurrection by the machines. Similarly, a more fleshed-out depiction of the 'Machine civil war' that happened between Revolutions and Resurrections would have added the much-needed context that the current film was so obviously lacking. Not having more of the original actors or its original darker cyberpunk feel to instead replace it with a campy atmosphere throughout, led to that feeling we're all having over what was a landmark example of film making turned corporate mess, the very thing the original film stood against. Heard there's a sequel. Maybe we’ll eventually discover the entire Resurrections film was just another one of Neo’s dreams from safe within his pod. That would explain the dream-like campy theme to Resurrections and allow the next film to play out much more like the trilogy. One can only hope. “It was all a dream.”

1. I hated that the new Smith called Neo Mr. Anderson only twice and the rest of the movie Tom. 2. Laurence Fishburne should have been in this movie as Morpheus. 3. When you mix action with extremely predictable, that makes it boring. 4. Where is the golden code? 5. Making anyone an agent was a mistake... I like it when the matrix took a human battery and morph it into an agent dressed in a black suit and dark sunglasses. 6. Where is the back story for Merovingian, and why did he just leave as if he became bored with the whole situation. 7. Not having the green hue that we like and recognized when in the Matrix was another big mistake. 8. Another big mistake is making Trinity the same as Neo, ergo "The One" which now makes it *The Two* 😡 9. Having the new version of agent Smith become the hero was just ridiculous!

They're definitely keeping Smith in play to use him later. Whoever is in charge of the machines made it clear that the Matrix would revert back to the previous version if The Analyst couldn't maintain the current power output. With Neo and Trinity taking over, The Analyst has lost his power. If we get sequels, it'll probably be something along the lines of Smith vs. Neo/Trinity, with a possible machine power struggle as well.

Seems to me that the entire thing happened in the matrix including the 'earth' scenes and the ending. It was mentioned that there were many simulations, no other humans around trinity and neo and the other people are call 'bots' (NPCs). Morpheus first met Neo while walking out of the bathroom (seems like an insult the machines would do). Both Neo and Trinity were strangely un-guarded.... I think Neo is still trapped and it's a lot easier to keep him there if he thinks he's already escaped. Also Morpheus was shown exercising.. why would he need to do that?

@@nems0909 Thomas Anderson is a coder, a video game developer. He had created a "modal" in which he grew a consciousness out of an amalgamation of the Mr. Smith and Morpheos he coded for his game. That modal was basically subjecting the character to a repeat of the initial actions that first freed Neo. Maybe he did it as a way to free himself because he was too brain washed to free himself... Anyway, that is what I understood to be happening.

People are shitting on this movie a little too hard in my opinion. The themes and the social commentary of this film are pretty epic when you start diving into it. Its almost too dense or packed of it. They tackle depression, anxiety, suicide, recovery, being manipulated by media and fake news, algorithmic media and consumerism that enslaves us online, social media and avatars, the Hollywood machine, the hypocrisy of nostalgic sequels and reboots, adam and eve, detrimental impacts of technology on our lives, and many aspects of the human condition including the whole longing for our desires while fearing of losing our securities, plus the whole classic matrix reality vs dream world debate. Im leaving a lot of other themes, etc out as well.The underlying messages and philosophical references are easily just as good as the ones from the first trilogy and actually compliment the original trilogy's themes and social commentary quite well (any die hard Matrix fan knows these movies are all about and built upon hidden themes and social commentary). This is a movie that is going to resonate with people as time goes on and more analysis is done on it. That said, the movie itself still needs to be good, so I can understand why people are disappointed with the basic/surface story line as it is a little bit disappointing. I agree that they went a little heavy on the humor and references, also I think they did Smith pretty dirty.. seeing Smith sock-less in loafers wearing ray bands did hurt my soul. Again though, everything was done for a purpose. I can understand why people were hoping for something different - Lana Wachowski could have made the tone and everything just like the first movie if she wanted to, but she obviously chose to do something completely different. Regardless, nothing in this film is by accident. Everything has meaning and serves as a point, theme, or message in some way - humor and satire included. I hope people come to appreciate it as Id like to see a follow up; however, I dont expect one.

Interesting take. I see people saying it’s a comment on society and the like. What I saw was a writer who loves the work they did before and wanted to play in it again, but lacked the original spark. I honestly feel like any Matrix fan could have written this, and clearly this was a movie made by a Matrix fan. This was not the spark that the original Matrix was. That movie and story is set alone. You know when there is a piece of art that is so epic it takes a life of its own and the artist is no longer part of the thought process? The Matrix is like that. We can see it was inspired and the following movies were trying trying to capture that spark because the writers thought they were the creators of that spark. And this movie feels the same, but it’s just a fan trying to revisit their love of an art piece.

The difference between this and the Trilogy is that all the ideas in Trilogy - predominantly explored through the dialectic between free will and determinism - tie into a plot structure and carry through the movies in themes. What made the Trilogy interesting is you could take a plot theme like hero's journey or the nature of revolution between the oppressed and the superstructure, and draw parallels to real life. What you describe as themes from suicide to consumerism to movie sequels etc in Resurrections are commented on but each one goes nowhere.

Me too. I loved it. It wasn’t just a self-referential critique or meta-contextual analysis. It really built up the first movie & also the sequels. I thought it it was brilliant how Lana added changes to the new “realities” of the real world & the matrix. E.G. Machines helping humans in the real world & a more diabolical matrix controller in the analyst. It is heartbreaking to see Neo & Trinity revived, enslaved again & put back under control in the matrix. So it was emotionally satisfying to see Neo break through out of the control of the Matrix & then Neo & the rest helping save Trinity. It is really a satisfying movie. How can you not dig Neo & Trinity reuniting? It was brilliant how Neo was controlled with psychological trauma & Trinity with a family. People seemed confused by a lot & distracted by the meta stuff. Trinity is not the “one” now. Neo is the anomaly of anomalies & his source code is imprinted on Trinity & Smith. Neo & Trinity are both powerful but they are even greater together - the uniting power of love. Also many believe this movie is “woke.” If anything it is a critique of all the toxic false narratives & propaganda of the extreme left. it might not explicitly be a critique of the left or mass media but it certainly can be construed as such. I think people will enjoy the movie a lot more with no expectations or comparing it to the first movie. The original is impossible to top. As a standalone movie, it is entertaining & moving, which is what you want in a movie. I think time will be kinder to the movie. That is, it will get a lot more appreciation after some time has passed.

The movie was not very clear on this at all, but the most logical explanation is that because Smith is a remnant of the old Matrix, and was an anomaly at that, he's able to circumvent a lot of the hold the Analyst has over the new Matrix. That's also one of the reasons Smith doesn't want Neo captured again, because that's the only way the Analyst will be able to keep Smith under control.

You are incorrect about Bugs taking Trinity's place until she chooses. Bugs only replaces Trinity after she chooses and all hell breaks loose in a bar fight. I was hoping you could help explain why New Smith intervened in the bar to take down The Analyst and then just disappears. It was a good twist, but the more I think about it, the more confused I become. Basically that's the problem with the whole movie.

I didn't say Bugs and Trinity swap before she chooses. I just said that was part of Sati's plan. They can't wait for Trinity to get to an exit, so they have to swap before she can be freed. New Smith intervened because he can't do as he pleases until Neo is gone. As long as Neo is around, the Analyst can put that "leash" around his neck again (as Smith put it).

Ah yes. I thought that you were trying to say Bugs was Trinity the whole time. There really is no good way to explain it since it is so ludicrous. I like what New Smith said at the end. Anyone could be you, whereas I have always been anyone. It sounds very profound, but I don't get it. I guess maybe Smith is the machine anomaly mirror image of Neo who represents humanity. But that doesn't make him anyone. He's everyone?
@TheNerdDoc
@TheNerdDoc 2 жыл бұрын
@Robert Harvilla I think he just means that the anomaly could be anyone. Neo isn't special, he's just the next anomaly in a long line of anomalies. Smith has always been able to be anyone within the Matrix. All of the agents in the trilogy had that ability. Smith took it a step further by literally making "everyone" in the Matrix into himself by the end of the third film.

It's not correct that there was no mention of currency "in the machine world" (which should just be referenced as the real world but ok). The machines in The second Renaissance who built their own nation had currency. They had a hugely successful economy which was in large part why the tensions between them and humans grew quickly. Similarly, the references to "suits" by the Analyst are part of this same pre-face that we have from TSR. The machines had a hierarchy with leaders and ranks as was shown during their negotiations with the UN.
@TheNerdDoc
@TheNerdDoc Жыл бұрын
To be honest, this was so long ago I don't even remember enough about the movie (or the Animatrix) to have a conversation about your critiques of the video. However, if you want to debate semantics about how to reference the world, what I can say is that when I call it "the machine world" everyone knows what I'm referring to. If I call it "the real world" there's a chance (however slim) that some people could potentially be confused. So while both phrases are correct, one is easier to understand than the other. I'm sure you're right about the currency, but again, I don't recall the specifics enough to have a conversation about that.

That's the impression they gave, but The Analyst also implied that the machines would take back control if he wasn't able to fix the problem. It's difficult to say if that means they can take control over Neo and Trinity, or if they would only be able to take control from The Analyst. You'd think they could just reboot it again, gaining control over Neo/Trinity, but it wasn't entirely clear.

There was mention of machine currency...in the Animatrix. It's one of the reasons there was a war. Zero One became its own self sustaining city. And their industrial complex killed human kid currency because their goods and services were better than humankind's And I don't think Trinity is the One. They both are. She was the trigger that created an anomaly within the anomaly himself. Neo was the only incarnation of The Ones that chose love over humanity. I think that has a lot to do with her new powers...being that they cam both fly
@WOTArtyNoobs
@WOTArtyNoobs 2 жыл бұрын
@R3troPK I thought that Trinity's new powers were because he used his code to bring her back in Reloaded. He jump started her heart after she died and infused her with his powers unintentionally, making both of them two halves of the same equation - just as Neo was the Yin to Smith's Yang after he overwrote Smith in the first movie. The only way that Deus Ex-Machina could anti-virus Smith was if Neo allowed Smith to "become one with the one" and cancel both out at the same time - leading to all the joined Smiths being wiped out as well. This movie might have been far better if the premise had been that the Deus Ex-Machina had revived Neo and Trinity, not so they could both become anomalies, but so they could be held ready in case Smith returned, or the Merovingian tried to take over instead of the architect and the oracle. My supposition was that Neo and Trinity were being held in a separate Matrix in Machine City (01) and that the humans were trying to locate their bodies after the truce, but the machines refused to return them despite their promise to release anyone who wanted out.
@robertharvilla4881
@robertharvilla4881 2 жыл бұрын
Their love is what gave them power. The loop of Anomalies prior to Neo didn't have Trinity, so she was just as important to the One as he was himself. Only problem is that the machines should have known something was wrong when they saw Trinity resurrect Neo in the first film. The Architect being all calm and poker faced while explaining that Neo didn't have a chance was either the biggest bluff in history or the dumbest poker hand ever played. They should have pulled the plug when they saw Neo and Trinity bringing each other back to life. The analyst explained it perfectly. He was basically a hybrid of the Architect and the Oracle. He was fully aware of the power of human feelings, and he played them like a puppet master. Only problem was that the idea that they wouldn't have more than one Matrix running at any given time is absurd. No one puts all their eggs in one basket like that.

I remember back in '98 when they were running trailers for the Matrix, like no other movie ever before, I couldn't wait for it to open in theatres. While this movie has been out for some while now, I get the feeling it's not worth watching. The trailers seem like a bunch of sci-fi nonsense and aimed at a quick money grab. Just throw in a bit of nostalgia and special effects and a believable storyline and that should carry the film. Why do I feel this one will be a waste of time? Ans: probably because it is. But then I finally got around to watching this new rendition and I have to say, "it's not that bad." It certainly doesn't carry the same deep philosophical message as its predecessors. It's mostly special visual effects and lots of violence. The undercurrent of the storyline was supposed to be the reunion of Neo and Trinity and the rekindling of their love affair. If it was the intention of the writers to make the audience feel a deep personal attachment for and an identification with this reunion, it certainly failed on my end. Just not enough substance there to invoke that type of response. Neo seemed confused and clueless throughout and Trinity seemed torn between two worlds, which made their reunion appear pointless. Those who see this as a love story must be swallowing the blue pill because there was not enough there for that to make sense. It was simply a bunch of renegades flouting authority to reunite two symbols of an earlier era, to see where it would lead. And most likely, it will lead to another installment. Unlike the other installments, I think this is going to be a one-time watch.

The real Morpheus believed in Neo and didn't think they had to worry about the machine war. It doesn't seem as though anything happened to him though, he just died of natural causes since 60 years had passed. The flying was because that's how the first Matrix ended. It was more symbolic than anything else. Trinity has Neo's powers because together they are the one. It wasn't just Neo. Trinity just needed to be "awakened" so to speak.
