The Maxpedition Acantha is a great EDC/Tactical Pen, with great ergonomics, good construction, and a space pen cartridge which can write anywhere. Although the Space Pen cartridge isn't a great choice for regular, long-duration writing, this is the best host for a Space Pen I've found, and if you're in the market for a Space Pen, this is a solid Gem.
Here's a link to buy the pen and support the channel: amzn.to/2cY4OFH

Kempo Kid you win the reference of the day, lol. Never thought of comparing Nick to Spock but it works. I get the same sense of wisdom from each as well. I believe the term is deadpan humor and both men pull it off exceptionally well.

I tried a "tactical" pen one time, years ago when they first started to appear. I can not for the life of me remember the maker (maybe SureFire) but, It was clumsy much like the pencils pawned off on kindergarteners. I'd like a good tactical pen for a reasonable price that was ...svelte maybe. Any ideas? Thank you.

Nick, you really gotta get yourself a Caran d'Ache 849, one of the most iconic pens of all time (and not expensive), and such a pleasure to write with... the clicking on it is just so smooth, it's great!

Looks like you got a new surface for your table there!! Ohh, yeah I need to add some excitement to my life. At any rate, I loved carrying my aluminum Jotter in my right pocket until the clicky started sticking. Wish it was more durable but I can't bring myself to go to a 'tactual' writing utensil.

Nick. I am looking for a pen about that size, that writes very smooth and wont break the bank. No need for it to be tactical. Any recommendations?? I didnt like the investigator all that much. Sold it.

I'm thinking of buying a fisher space bullet pen because of the small form factor. However I want a pen that writes well i won't be writing stuff upside down or in space. I just need a small pen, any suggestions? Also preferably I have a 30 dollar budget or so

Kempo Kid nite ize makes a couple versions of what they call inka pens for under 10 dollars. I've had the one that has the stylus end and it was fine if you aren't writing a whole lot at one time. The zebra telescoping pen is also a good, small option.

The Pilot Metropolitan series is also a pretty good choice, for around $15. They come in ballpoint, rollerball (takes your basic Pilot G2 refill, which is awesome for the money, and a Mont Blanc refill could probably be modified to fit too), and (my personal favorite) fountain pen. They're also available in a wide variety of colors, mine is in retro pop red.

I'm not a pen refill expert but I believe there are a lot of cartridges that can be swapped for the fisher space pen refill. I think the Schmidt 4888 will fit and I've heard good things about it.

Yes, G2 style refill (not to be confused the parker G2 gel pen and their refills, which is completely different thing) are a very popular refill size and you do have a lot of choices. So far the Schmidt easyflow 9000 series has been my favorite. It comes closest to my fountain pen in the writing capability.

Nick my favorite "tactical" pen is the Schrade that takes PARKER as well as space pen refills, so it writes much better. It's not over-the top tactical looking either. Would you like me to send it to you for review?

Space pen ink is much more secure from tampering by the way. I saw some examples a few years ago and someone writing a cheque would feel more secure using a space pen than a regular crappy biro or something.

I'm with you on the space pens, I used to think the Bullet space pen was the holy grail of EDC pens for some reason. But after owning and using one for ages I realise how much I hate them. I bought the shiny (and slippery) chrome one, the clip falls off regularly, the cap doesn't stay on the body when writing and it also scratches the heck out of it, the cartridge has significant play when writing and the pressure issues which you mentioned... They are fine for a back up pen, but terrible for everything else.
@jayweast1306
@jayweast1306 7 жыл бұрын
Jimmy Grey I agree. The Fisher Space Pen has been put on a pedestal because of its history but there are countless better options including dozens that accept the Fisher refill. It's just a clunky, flawed, impractical choice for EDC or really any application.

If I'm carrying a pen why not have the option to use it as a weapon. I carry a smith and wesson tac pen which I like because it doesn't require you to unscrew the cap and rescrew it back on. The s and w has a firm click on and off. It writes well and can use the Fischer space refill.

@ZackTheRipperr

Its more for pressure points... not meant for stabbing lol, its for grappling in a self defense. if you can redirect your target and apply direct accurate pressure point force, you can disable a attacker without permanent harm. yes you can strike with it but it is most effective when the user is knowledgeable on human anatomy. I figured I could clear that up for you sir :)
@ElijsDima

Thankfully it's also a pen, so you can draw an 'x' mark on the pressure points for more accuracy.

I heard that NASA spent nearly $7 million dollars developing a ball-point pen that would work in zero gravity for space missions. The Russians used pencils...!
@robertd.719
@robertd.719 7 жыл бұрын
Check a bit deeper, NASA did not pay for development. Common myth, but not actually what happened, Fisher paid for the R&D. Other space programs (Russia) went to the space pen as soon as it was available, graphite and wood shavings floating around in a space ship was not their long term solution.

If you're in such a tits-up situation as to need to rely on stabbing an attacker with a god damned pen, I'd say you probably made at least two or three catastrophic mistakes. It's not a guarantee but it's pretty likely. Sure, terrible things absolutely can happen at the worst possible times but why on earth would you have your pen closer than your knife (or better yet, a concealed handgun)? If all I have to protect myself is a pen, regardless of how nice or 'tactical' that pen might be, I have utterly failed myself.
