There are so many divergent understandings of the meaning of “The Family Budget Fisherman”. Over the course of over 130 videos the meaning has been expressed, however this video is to produce a concise and fully expressed observation why this channel is entitled what it is. Some people actually watch several videos and get an understanding while others just read the title, see a high end combo, then comment on what appears to be oxymoron. My hope helps to gain better understanding of the channel and becomes an integral reference for those who want to purchase the best equipment possible within their family budgets. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

This is the first time I’ve seen your channel. I decided to send your video to my daughter and her husband. My daughter is very frugal. Both she and her husband love to fish and I knew both of them would benefit from your message here. Heck, I even learned a few things as well. I have a friend who is sponsored by Shimano and yearly is given huge discounts on his rods and reels. After one year of use of which he said that the rod and reel was only used about 6 times he sold his Shimano Metanium reel and Poison Adrena rod for $350 Canadian. In the U.S. that combo is about $800 in U.S. dollars. When you do the exchange conversion I only paid about $270 US dollars for a like new $800 combo. I couldn’t believe what I paid him. But I told him I’d buy another combo this year if he hade one again this year.

Man I enjoy watching your videos while welding at work work over time to afford my high end rods I buy a lot of mine off American legacy fishing in the used section most of them are rods that they had as displays just got an ex pride for 150 bucks that are 270 to 300 tags still attached!

It pays to educate yourself on what different equipment costs. Then you can definitely jump on deals when they pop up briefly.

If you would like to save some money, make yourself an easy to build wooden jig and make your own rods. Its very easy to do and the high end blanks are a LOT cheaper than finished ones. I have made several myself. Watch a couple rod making videos on KZfaq and go to town. Easy.

I think there's going to be a new 13 Fishing rod lineup coming out that may replace the Envy called the Widow Maker.

If what you say is accurate, they are going to use their ice rod, also called the Widow Maker, as a model for a full size rod. My wonder is why discontinue a brand new model? The Envy 3 is less than a year old. So far neither 13 Fishing nor Rapala is responding directly. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

@@familybudgetfisherman It's very odd. I wonder if they just didn't sell that well or what. I may be wrong on the Widow Maker name. I know for a fact 13 Fishing announced the Widow Maker last spring. It was even on Tackle Warehouse for pre-order. I asked Kyle Welcher and he said they are gonna be coming out with a new line, but didn't say if it was still gonna be called the Widow Maker (as you mention, that is the name of their ice fishing rod).

No. I give away roughly 1/3 of my arsenal. The other 2/3 are shared between family and friends for temporary use. The reason you see so many rods is because I am always making new purchases into new equipment. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

I have a budget That my wife and I agree to every year. It only expands with gifts accumulated along the year. This ensures I don't "piss off" my wife because I stayed within the agreed family budget for fishing equipment.
