I mean to be fair, some developers put a lot more thought into designs than you might think and do their research, so I wouldn't assume it's always just to look cool...

@@dogman9291 The thing is the artists are probably inspired by real life disorders and disabilities so in turn people can make the connections like in this video.

@@dogman9291 i think it goes like "hey, this looks cool, we should put it in the game" and then in the proccess the question appears "It looks cool, but why?" and then alter the design and function to make it have sense within the context of the game

@@dappylk9 You're probably not far off. Though games tend to be less "logical" than other media, due to the nature of what games are, some devs put a surprising amount of thought into their stuff. If you watch interviews with some designers, you'll see them talk pretty extensively about their inspirations for ideas in their games that makes it pretty clear there's a little more thinking going on than just "it looks cool" alone. Definitely a lot more real life inspiration going on, especially in horror and things of the like.

​@@dappylk9 As a 3D artist and creature designer, when wanting to create an immersive or believable experience, and if there is lore or history behind the creature, object, structure, item, etc. in question, it's very important to actually think about why things are the way they are. For example, if it's supposed to be a human that mutated into something else, then it's essential to keep those human traits on the creature. Notable examples being things like humanoid werewolves (think Resident Evil 8), where every part of the organism is still human looking, but obviously mutated. This is typically where the most 'accidentally true' evolutions happen, as everyone can get behind "oh yeah, humans can mutate into weird stuff like that", but most of us don't know the exact deep intricacies of what kind of mutations humans can actually go through. That's what Roanoke is there for. Where the real source of inspiration comes from is when a creature also has specific abilities and traits, like wanting it to be an ambush or burrowing creature. If this is the case, then you need to take inspiration from real life creatures who have those abilities in order to incorporate them into your design. This is important, because without it, your design won't be very cohesive with what your creature is actually capable of, and you need to have that cohesion, if you're to make your creature believable and easily readable by the player. Good and believable creature design, is good game design. In Left 4 Dead 2's case, every single creature likely had a basic ability, and then something to complement it, to help influence their design. So it'd probably go like this: Tank: Extremely strong boss battle, can throw rocks from the ground - Has to be very muscular Witch: Crying and peaceful until provoked, in which it will instantly eviscerate a player and kill them within seconds - Long claws for ripping to shreds - Thin, curled up frame, in order to not encourage being shot Spitter: Zombie that spits at you - Tall for extra leverage, for shooting over obstacles and such - Probably melty face since throwing up a lot is not good for you etc. etc. Then when accidentally true mutations come out of it, that's just a bonus. It goes to show how even just a little bit of thought incorporated into a design can seriously go a long way.

Even though it’s confirmed canonically that the spitter is not pregnant (several things about her prototype design were changed in the final because players during testing assumed she was pregnant), I kinda wish she was. That idea is so twisted I kinda love it.

I love the fact that he just moves on with the video instead of embellishing on that golden piece of comedy and ruining it.

Roanoke Gaming hey I just learned this: thought you could make use of it. Using escape map editor in gears 5 you can build a map, place enemies, and preview the map. Giving you some great up close still shots of baddies so you don’t have to play a level, Kill em and ADS for your vids

What got me reading was your spartan neurology video. Since my fiance is a phlebotomist, the question was posed while talking about the spartan body(havnt gotten through all your videos. You may have covered this). For spartans to move as fast, and as hard as they do. How could the muscles compensate for oxygen when the number of red blood cells and hemoglobin content be somewhat normal? Still learning more about the circulatory system from some of her books. Really cool stuff.
