Futuna is a small and sparsely inhabited island in the south of the Vanuatu archipelago, where Roland lives, in the village of Harold Bay. Like the other 200 people living in Futuna, he has adapted to a very hostile environment, as the island has many steep cliffs of different levels.
Roland’s son, Renaldo, is now old enough to learn the ways of his people, traditions created for survival on the island. They consist of farming, building houses and fishing. Flying fish will be present soon enough, near the Futuna coast, and it will be time to prepare the necessary equipment.

A garden in a volcano crater that must be reached by vine bound ladders. Netting flying fish by way of a day-imprisoned lantern, but never on the full moon. Paying homage to temperamental spirits makes them more mindful of every step. So fascinating. So beautiful. Like a fairyworld, so far removed from modern life. Our superhighways and technology. This simplicity is unfathomable. They will be there long after the rest of us have died off.

Somehow i feel like it should not be a privilege to live in balance with the rest of nature, but a universal right. These people still know how to live life in balance with their suroundings. Modern society seems to have lost that ability.

When dude is netting flying fish at night standing on an outrigger canoe, I definitely wouldn't call that "badly balanced" more like "expertly balanced on a beautiful handcrafted vessel" Give praise where praise is due - the man's got mad skills!

Watching this video makes me envy of them. They may not have TV's, social media, wealth, planes, automobiles but they lived a very peaceful life without stress of the modernization world. Your groceries and shelters is all that surrounds you. You only take what you need and there's no need to stress over taxes, competitions, mortgage, car payments. These people are as free as it gets.

You are absolutely free to go live like them, without those things. If you go alone, I bet you'd be tired and bored very soon. If you want to join them, which skills useful for them you would bring? Even they use clothes from modern world. And you are on the social media, commenting this.

The doco speaker said Polynesians have maintained their special skills in building ROW BOATS!! 🤣 dam bro!!! Polynesians been sailing boats in the seas way before Europeans for hundreds of years into the wind even. sailing boats these days are inspired from there design not European sailing boats just look at the America's cup boats fastest sailing boats in the world. Polynesians were ahead of their time. Just a correction to the hidden truth 😉
