'Your best' doesn't mean pushing yourself to your breaking point. 'Your best' means the best you can do while being the best you. Get enough sleep , give yourself breaks, listen to your limits. 'Your best' is better when you're happy and healthy.

Rest days make me f**king depressed, I need activity since I'm prone to depression and I hate that my muscles hurt the next day and I have this idea I don't have to do exercise, thank you for telling us that we can make it lighter

this topic has been very relevant for me lately, training is therapy for me, I need it everyday. For 10 years I've been pushing my limit 5-7 times a week. Now that I'm actually gauging my intensity and volume, I've found that 7 days a week can be manageable. Yoga, meditation, stretching and cardio are all underrated tools that I'm now starting to consistently tap into. Thank you for these videos and the podcast. Taking my experience to the next level.

Yeah this is definitely me. I feel like at least I need to workout or my day will be horrible. Exercise is like therapy to me and I also feel like I will lose progress.

Thanks guys this helped me out a lot. I'm worried I won't stay lean if I miss a day of some form of intense training which I know isn't rational or healthy. I think it would be good for me to take a look at why I feel like I need to look a certain way to be happy. Id much rather just be happy no matter how I look.

Rest day is my arm day, get a nice pump but nothing crazy, hit some abs and do some cardio and stretching.

For most people, they want any excuse to avoid exercise. But for me, I detest rest days and have to literally force myself. 😆 It's getting better though : 1) No more calorie deficits. Now it's maintenance/tiny surplus only. 2) Lifting is full body 3x per week and only 2 work sets per exercise. So this comes out to only 12-15 sets per workout which means my volume is WAY lower. 3) I'm active and walk daily. But I no longer do high intensity cardio and only do 20 min of formal LISS cardio 3x per week after lifting. Overall I've got at least 2-3 days per week now I'd consider "active rest" where it's literally just walking and some mobility stuff. Then 80% of the day is me just relaxing and napping. Doing this is really hard for me, but I'll admit I feel better.

My biggest fear is if I take one day off, then it'll turn into two and three... and then a month will go by and I'll be like: "maybe I should start training again"... I decided to take NO days off now. That doesn't mean I have to push myself 100% everyday. There can be a mix of low intensity workouts and more focus on stretching.

I used to be like that, I trained for approx 15 years essentially everyday in life, partly because I felt like if I didn't "keep the ball rolling" I would stop. One day I did stop 🥲 5-10 years now have gone by with virtually zero exercise lol better to keep that ball rolling after all lol

Annoys me when people think they have all the answers. The fact is everyone is different, has differing bio chemistry and responds to different plans in their own way. I have to train full body daily with no rest days, I have tried everything else from GVT 2 twice a week to standard PPL and fullbody daily is where I'm at. The only advice 'experts' should be giving people is test what works best for you, and here is how to test properly

I really struggle with rest days. I dont have any days off. I even work out on Christmas day and even the morning of my mums funeral and literally the day I found out my mum had passed away. Its becoming too much because It is taking over and affecting my relationships with family . I find it hard to change my pattern or take time to just live!

Listen to your body. Mix it up, keep changing things. It's the people at the gym who are always doing the same thing that never seem to improve. Work at what you're not good at, not what comes easy to you. Keep moving forward. It's your central nervous system that needs to be protected. Some days, you start slow and end strong. Some days, it's reversed Listen to your body!

This is why I’m here. My marathon training plan calls for two rest days, I’m on day 2, but I feel good, not in any pain, plenty of energy, should I take the day off or just go for a run?

Pro Athletes and Olympians all take rest days. If the best athletes in the world need rest days, Joe Blow the gym rat isn't too good for a rest day. Rest days are a part of proper programing.

Joe Blow likely works out for a different reason and has normal person struggles to go through outside of workouts rather than privileges that pro athletes or Olympians would have when they're not training. The solution is trigger sessions or mobility on "rest days" when they still have enough energy that they are missing workouts.
