I really liked Laroche. I thought it was a missed opportunity that he didn't have a bigger part, especially when he finally came around and realized that it was easier to work with Jane than against him.

I love how they've progressed from her never willing to get involved to her wordlessly helping him get out of this situation. She doesn't even think twice about helping him, and I'm so glad he also just tells her the whole situation.

know what? I love the mentalist for their expressions! I've seen many american dramas ,but few of characters were so expressive like them! great!

Every so often in the show Teresa will stare Jane down and he quietly cedes to her. Even when half of what he says are lies she knows to call out the important ones, even when he's already running risks she knows when he is in true danger, and even when he struggled with sadness the entire time hunting RJ she almost always knew when his mood was sinking lower than usual. I wonder how he kept calm while being loved that much.

Lisbon is such a perfect character. Goddamn I love Robin Tunney as Lisbon.

Jane isn't a psychopath and he isn't a sociopath either. For one, sociopaths don't feel guilt. Jane feels guilty for his family's death. Sociopaths can't form meaningful relationships. Jane has shown he does love Lisbon and supports her when she needs him most (see season 4 finale and episodes in season 5 - particularly the Volker case).

A lot of people misuse the word sociopath to mean anybody charming who is capable of getting into another's head and manipulating their reactions for their own benefit, or someone who uses their insight into human behavior to give themselves an edge in business and finances. Many people also view sociopaths as lacking respect for the generally accepted social rules and status quo. It's more complicated than that though. Sociopaths generally have little or no conscience and don't easily feel guilt or remorse if they hurt someone, and if they do hurt someone and happen to feel responsible, many of them are good at going into denial and absolving themselves. Jane has little respect for a lot of social rules and authority figures because, frankly, a lot of what the status quo thinks of as normal is kind of dumb, but Jane is not a sociopath, he just has less desire than most to confirm and fit in. He flogs himself with guilt over the murders of his family. Jane has a clear affection and protectiveness for animals and small children. He becomes deeply angered when he encounters abuse and bullying on different cases and will go out of his way to bring small moments of peace and comfort to people who have been exploited. He is afraid of getting close to people because of his wife and daughter's murders, not because he lacks the ability to form close relationships. He has a major case of survivor's guilt and squeaks through the day playing his mentalist role, but there are so many times in this series where he will try and comfort people who are hurting, whereas a sociopath in that same scenario wouldn't even think of comforting the hurting like Jane does. Many of Jane's acts of kindness are small things between only himself and the other person, done almost in secret, and not big fancy affairs to gain attention or recognition (when sociopaths do try to pretend like they are comforting, they usually do it so everybody knows how great they are being to somebody else, because the "kindness" is about their reputation and looking good- it is not done to be kind, but Jane's kind moments to others are subtle to the point that many viewers of the show considering Jane to be a sociopath have entirely missed those subtle exchanges. There have been times Jane is interacting with a victim on a case and you can see the combination of pain, compassion and grief on his face as he analyzes someone who is hurting- a sociopath wouldn't care and the small, non verbal cues denoting empathy and grief Jane gives off wouldn't be present in them. Jane presents like someone who is consumed with grief to the point where he psychologically has to play at being an unfeeling, glib larger than life personality to get through the day. His antics seem to be as much to push his own memories and pain away as dazzle others.

He's not Red John, Bruno Heller himself said that he wasn't, he said that it wouldn't be fair to string the fans along, and then deny them the closure. and i don't think Jane's a psychopath, the reason why RJ's always ahead of him, is because Jane refuses to hurt innocent people, even to catch Red John..so he's not crazy, he still has his principals his principals just tend to go outside the law, quite a bit.

This is a brilliant scene. Jane faltering, and Lisbon getting things done "legally." Jane is the brains and Lisbon is the brawn. I wish the story arc about Volker could have been more like this, with Lisbon solving it more on her own terms. It was a great episode but still seemed like she didn't know what to do unless Jane guided her.

jane got the list from Minelli when LaRoche was just beginning to investigate. since then Laroche had narowed down the names on the list to 5 people. that's why the lists are different.

That's nice and possible, but there are many psychopaths who play their roles so good they end up deceiving themselves as well.That's why sometimes a certain psychopath shows some specific emotion, but on closer inspection the emotion wasn't genuine and the psychopath began to believe his/her deviousness.Dexter could be that kind since it seems he genuinely cares about Deb and his son, but it may also be that he just deceived himself as well.After all, the best lies are the ones you believe too.

And you guys say Jane isn't a psychopath.Well, I am not saying he is, I can't be sure either.But there are more than enough evidence that he may be one.Lisbon is, practically, his puppy now.She does everything for him without thinking twice and she is willing to get herself in trouble for him.That's exactly what an educated psychopath can do to you.And Jane exhibits many attributes of a psychopath.He convinced an entire jury that he is innocent, even though he clearly killed that guy.
