Greetings traveller, you safely made it to another dose of sadness. In today's cut content exploration, we dive into Metal Haven; this place was once a hugely successful music shop that boasted a recording studio, tonnes of records and even borged out security.
However in 2077, this place is just a shell. There's something here for sure, but it's not really enough. Also, let's have a gander around some unused verticality elements as well.
There's a decent bit to unpack here so I hope you enjoy your stay.

Quick little note: I did clip inside the actual building and found a single NPC who would routinely spawn. They are invincible and can be seen dancing to something... interesting

That makes sense, theyre probably on what was going to be a dance floor, and clubs are known to be safe areas where guns dont work. Likely the unfinished nature lets you use your weapons, but grants a safe area invulnerability

With the firing range I think every gun shop in the city was originally meant to have them. If you check they all have doors you can’t open and some of them you can hear sounds of gunfire either in or nearby the shops. My guess is there was originally either a shooting range quest associated with each shop like you have in the megabuilding or the firing ranges were originally designed to be used at any time so you could try out weapons. And yeah it’s a shame there isn’t more verticality in the game. There’s actually a few spots like the catwalks outside metal heaven though that you can use, the area around jig jig street, there’s some in charter hill and near one of the mega buildings in Haywood. No quests there but you can wander around and enjoy the views.

best you can get is dogtown in the dlc. its the verticlaity the entire game was supose to have. dlc entirely takes place on and around huge walkways between massive ruined brutlisist buildings. You first enter from a broken 20 story carpark that you need to platform your way up. there is barely a road. so the first thing it does is give you a free small off road car. but you NEED that double jump or charge to really get around. since mantis blades dont let you climb walls(cut content). haywood is nice too though its one of the only places where the idea is used and all buildings are climbable.

Yup, i had a bug a few months ago when i fell through some building with a explosion and ended up spawning under the gunshop in West wind estate, i couldnt get out(door is locked) but it was fully fleshed firing range, i would guess you got similar stuff in most of the other ones

i know in at least a few of them, you can noclip down into a range. It even has a terminal that will start an unfinished sequence similar to the shooting competition that whatshisface in H10 has.

If you noclip inside of metal heaven you can find about 10-20 people standing around and I think 2 people playing a guitar. For some reason I was really hoping we would get a side quest with phantom liberty where we get to go inside.

Yeah I’d be fine with an updated and expanded night City in the sequel, so long as we get on a rocket to a space station and maybe have a small local town or something you can drive to.

Sorry for the possibly ignorant question, but do you guys mean a sequel with Unreal Engine 5? They plan to abandon their own RedEngine, correct? So, if you are talking about a UE5 Cyberpunk sequel, can they use the stuff they built in the RedEngine? Won’t they have to start from scratch?

This is one of the places that I DREAM were implemented into Night City. Imagine each section of Night City truly opening up throughout your game? Watson is shut off for Act 1. You're incentivised to explore on foot and you find a seedy hole in the wall with an in depth side quest. Watson opens and all of a sudden you have LEVELS of verticallity that open up new shops, seedy back alley merchants, high level ripperdocs that only open after a string of Corpo side quests. Even further, make it a decision that lasts. That corpo you saved from Maelstrom in Act 1 calls. The militech agent requests help in a cold case. You meet the suspect and have a decision who to side with. The nomad suspect can offer preem guns and metal through his clan, while the corpo side can give you access to their in-house ripper doc. SO much opportunity wasted.

It really breaks my heart seeing all those abandoned places in NC. Maybe it's because they felt the campaign would have been too long. I know CDPR talked about having a shorter campaign then The Witcher 3 unfortunately. :(

It’s pure practicality, it’s mostly performance, they had to optimise the shit out of it for console and it still ran at 20FPS 720p. That, and they just had to focus on finishing and polishing what they already had. They have finite budgets and resources. However sad it makes you and I, you best believe the devs are 10x more devastated that they couldn’t fully achieve their visions. It’s nothing to do with greed or laziness or lack of ambition, it’s just reality having to ruin everything

look at steam achievents, PL new ending is only 2% and Become a merc (literally finish 1st hour of the game) is only 20%

The only District that somehow got the verticality right is Japantown, atleast in my opinion, its still missing a lot just like all the other districts but atleast it has some building complexes that reach into the ground which I'm really missing from this game in general, considering that the whole center Island is actually quite high, atleast if you look at it from Pacifica. If you visit the Park close to Corpo Plaza you also can see how high all the streets are set compared to the natural ground. Some Areas that I feel like could've gotten some more attention are Rocky Ridge and the Biotechnica Flats, both arent exactly small areas, especially the Biotechnica Flats and in the end you only use them both once which is quite sad, still havent seen one of those tents from inside even tho there is like a couple hundreds of them.

One of the devs once mentioned that the lack of playable vertical areas was mostly due to performance, the city was pure chugging. Blame consoles maybe. That, and the usual 2 suspects- budget and resources. I hope they can more fully achieve their vision in the sequel, I’m sad to see red engine go, but maybe UE5 will be more economical with its nanite meshes

"Blame consoles" is just bullshit. Latest gen consoles deliver best performance for the buck and don't hinder game development in the way that some gamers seem to believe they do. Imagine a studio actually does disregard consoles and creates a total monster of a game that... is completely unplayable because barely anyone has a PC strong enough anyway. Something like 15 FPS on a 3090 that is well deserved (that is, the game is actually that groundbreaking and not just badly optimised). That would *not* sell. Many people still have GTX gen cards in their PCs, today. And those deliver *worse* performance than a PS5. A PC that will match PS5 in performance is going to be more expensive than a PS5 as well, so without consoles even less people would have access to this level of performance and fully utilizing it in games would be even less reasonable. I can agree that consoles may *temporarily* hinder advancements in games when current gen has been around for a while and becomes dated, but new gen isn't there yet. Or it's so new that developers still want to release their games on previous gen because barely anyone has latest gen. Sincerely, a lifelong PC gamer who's never even owned a console

@@xGOKOPx The PS4/ONE ports were the problem for sure and I'll be damned if the time and resources invested into crambling 2077 down into one of those things didn't hinder development in other areas. We all know that the game itself was released half-way its development at best since most of the advertized content hasn't been released yet and more than likely never will, but I think that they chewed more hardware than what they could support. I mean, you can pretty much run the game on a machine from circa 2012 but a PS4 wich is more advanced hardware has an atomic implosion just trying to keep up with the title screen. CDPR fucked up big time and delivered one hell of a scam that for some reason (yet not that surprising) is one of the most played ones in the market.

The whole area looks like it was intended to be a fully fleshed out area. I mean, there's still an entire floor on the gun shop side that you can go to with modeled shops you can't interact with, and then there's the area around Metal Heaven where there's a *crime scene*. Then there's the garage and elevator. It really looks like they were trying to finish it and ran out of time or something.

@@SirMZK Yeah it's been a ton of fun. I'm really looking forward to noclipping around DogTown when I finish most of the main story beats. Doubt there'll be anything as extensively cut as the base game just floating around but fingers crossed.

It can't be added in. They haven't released tools that let you edit maps. You can spawn in items (which is how they change the apartments) but not move doors, walls etc

So, additional verticality was intended according to several of the devs, however they were restricted on time and money. In the last several crunch months of development from what I had heard, supposedly a lot of the vertical areas over near Metal Heaven and other places just couldn't be finished. So, they blocked them off in one way or another, and added various things on the outside to give them reasons for being blocked off. Police barriers, doors. Also, enough textures so that it looks like something, but you can never get there. Bare minimum propping.

Love these videos. You find so much half baked content when you go up in Night City. Before 1.6 I remember really breaking my own heart by jumping around and finding all these amazing detailed locations just above the city streets that were only half done

presumably a part of the city that was being built before certain decisions were made and the directive changed from "we're building a city" to "we're making it look like a city"

I know people would most likely complain about it, but I genuinely wouldn’t mind if the next game it’s still set in Night City but obviously more expanded. Like all the cut content we never got like the rail system, accessibility to Megabuildings, the Casino and other detailed (empty) places around the map were all useable for the player. There’s just too much potential in a setting like Night City to just leave and set it somewhere else.

Great content. Things that I want to see, that you're probably have on list :D Biotechnica farms, oil rig, but also I want to see this huge strange container/crash site on junkyard outside city. Also Underwater tunel have plenty of closed doors, like should be something there.

Hopefully the sequel will do what Spider-Man 2 is doing, exact same city, bit bigger, bit more detailed. Maybe set it happen ten years later so we can see most of the same bigger buildings but also many things slightly changing over time. That would make it anew and nostalgic come back to familiar place at the same time. Maybe even leave some areas dedicated for modding community to easily add more gigs and gang encounters. Would be happy to have infinite amount of slight variations of the same gang members hanging around the city. So that even the tenth playthrough would always have a bit of something new.

Really enjoying all these video ideas btw, if you’re looking for ideas I’d be interested to see what’s behind the gate in victor vectors clinic and on the ground floor of the parking garage for v’s megabuilding. I think both were originally intended to be some sort of garage for the player and it would definitely explain why victors clinic is so large,

can you noclip through arasaka tower and a ton of different areas in the corpo intro and the secret ending mission? one of my particular interests were the locked doors in the lower levels of dont fear the reaper that you couldnt get through, yet the glass showed fully modelled rooms.

I just love the scale of Night City, I can't think of any game that comes close. The skyscrapers are so daunting, the streets feel so claustrophobic. So much potential, I hope the sequel is set in NC again

in general all those missing yet completed pieces would likely be something that was to have a quest or sidequest that gotten cut, along with that was the area that got the cut. alternatively it was just about performance somehow. i do not claim to understand dark magic of the red engine tho so i would only guess any of the above.

So much performance could probably be gained from culling a ton of the unused and totally hidden yet fully modeled and cluttered areas from loading in behind closed doors. Considering how frantic and ever changing the development of the city apparently was, it is probably impossible for them to track down all the half finished interiors lurking around.

Metalheaven Garage was most likely a garage for workers, staff, etc. It may have been an executive garage, with a personal elevator. Maybe in the next version or if modders can finish it. In my honest opinion, many places were not finished because they had to make the game for the console, setting them back at least a year. SO in a year pretty sure most of the places you covered would have been finished with more side jobs and missions.

It does really suck all the cut stuff. In the prologue the scene where the med people come pick up that girl, the edge looking down was dope. That verticality multi layer map is apart of a dystopian future city I feel like.

I literally was at this area yesterday while messing around eith my tendon legs. And just thought to myself "Wow. This place is rather low Polly/has some details for an area that is unused. Had no idea it was the rockerboy shop. I just kept moving on lol

Random likely cut content thing I noticed in Pacifica. The possible entry to a cave. Maybe this tied to the Cut Content about Nomad Pirates. Who are a big thing in the lore, but I have seen not much mention in game. Wonder how many caves were actually cut.

Remember the firing range quest in V's megabuilding? I assume it might've been the same kind of tournament as the Beat on the Brat one, hence the shooting range behind the rifle shop, but later it's been scrapped. Would make sense.

Part of me can't help but think that a lot of these cut areas were cut to allow for the old consoles. Heck, even with Phantom Liberty they had to put Dog Town behind line of sight barriers to keep how much is loaded at once in check.

Also, if we are wondering why these spaces were built, and then abandoned during dev in the first place? I would say it's fairly likely they had related quest content, those quests got cut for completely unrelated reasons, and then it no longer made sense to flesh out these areas and instead sanctioned them off and deleted any of the details they had built in those areas.

I would be elated if the next game installment was the same map, just with more detail or perhaps a little further into the future. There is so much potential, as these videos prove. Fully developed, this would be a VR dream to explore.

@@divinehatred6021 I'll be waiting. By that time, modders will probably get close. A lot of the map could be cleaned up to render and load easier. Then just steadily adding detail as home computing power continues to grow.

there actually is a fully functional firing range in the basement of one of the gun shops in watson. pretty barebones, i dont think the targets move or anything, but you can actually shoot in there now

I can't imagine how big the second game is going to be. All this cut content being added to Unreal Engine 5/Cyberpunk 2 is going be one hell of a braindance. Just imagine what this game would have looked like had it had gotten delayed another year or so and released with the 2.0 features?

Love the no clip videos. Night CIty is so incredibly detailed. The subscription issue has more to do with general viewing habits. A lot of people don't subscribe to channels at all yet view. If KZfaq made it mandatory to subscribe to watch a video, the 90+% would be there within 24 hours. LOL

I'm pretty sure both the garage and the lift are meant to serve as detailed backdrops, the area is visible from the gun store accross the street so it makes sense they'd want a bit of detail for it. It also explains why the elevator is the wrong size and constantly going up and down. The NCPD crime scene is probably there to give a hint as to why it's closed/inaccessible.

I think the Shooting Range Side Quest in Vs Megabuilding was just a little bit longer and this would be just the second shooting range stop for the quest.

Yeah definitely seems like an area that was cut down as time drawn closer to launch. Really hope CDPR would keep the city going into the next game and spend the time adding more and more lived in details, making the whole city denser and more vertical, instead of starting over from scratch. Then we can visit this place and get the metal shopping experience we were always dreaming.

If you go to to the floor below the gun shop, or the one below that, I don't remember, there is a sign stating "Crunch Plaza". Nuff said. U can see it in the video on 6:30, where the checker board tiles are. That's the Crunch Plaza sign.

tbh the lift looks like it's just flavor because you might potentially see it through the opening on the side of the building.

one of the most noticeable bits of cut content to anyone who plays the game is that every gun shop was going to have a functional firing range - idk if they cut it bc of time or bc it probably messed with the crowd AI or both

Vertical Structures can be very confusing, i just have to think of Vivec in Morrowind, i was sometimes pretty confused how i have reached one Area haha. But it is sad that they cut it here, i love roaming around in Cyberpunk and its World.

I think your assumptions generally make sense, and it''s quite unbelievable how dead Corpo Plaza is, how unfinished many places are, and how some central areas are less alive and fleshed out out than pretty much any back ally anywhere in the game.

Gotta disagree. There might be heaps of cut content but there’s also heaps of top quality playable content. The game currently is great, even if the past does sting… it’s sometimes good to appreciate what you have

The "garage" under there was probably going to be a car dealer where the player could buy cars.

Cyberpunk 2077 originally had A LOT going for it that originally was in the beta viewing but had to cut so much content for time constraints. The whole entirety of Night City feels like it at least.

I really hope CDPR will import the city model into Unreal and build upon what they already had. It would save them a lot of work, and all the underground vampire elements and above ground structuring would be a great way to completely reshape the experience of the city, without reinventing the wheel.

It's seems like with the NCPD crime scene at Metal Heaven that a mission might have been planned here but I assume the content got cut. At the Kabuki gun shop they do have a range downstairs' you can use , yes it's not fully functional, but It is kind of fun.

I would not mind it at all if Cyberpunk Orion was also set in Night City but they filled it in even further with new stuff and all the cut content, discarded ideas like Karaoke minigames (like Yakuza) and wall running

Think the lift was supposed to be something like a cargo elevator. You don't actually buy the specific item in the store, you just look around, ask an employee to get it for you and they call to the storage basement to send it up.

Would love to see modders use Metal Heaven to make a questline with Johnny and the music store and then through that, it gives you access to the rest of the building as a home Garage would display all your owned cars and you could drive them out down the ramp to the street, apartment/gun range "hideout/armory" like a true legendary merc would have in NC and the gun store could convert into a bougie corpo style black market store like PL has in the Dogtown Market

thankfuly the dlc brought back SOME of the verticality in dogtown. most of dogtown takes part in and around massive buildings layered on walkways. Basicly how the game was supose to be and is in lore.

I have over 3,000 hrs in this game; never been to that area. I think a lot of these areas, like the Casino near the Badlands east of Japantown (which I have been to in an earlier version of the game from 2020) may have had to do with the multiplayer aspect that was supposed to be a part of the game (as seen in the credits) but never implemented. So many areas, like rhe prison (been to that) and then there's another area, I forget where, that is quite detailed but blocked off; I think it's near Heywood.

I believe that firing range is part of a mission. Idk if it’s the exact one but there is one in some side mission

i really do hope that for cyberpunk orion aka the cyberpunk 2077 2 they fix all of this within the existing map and don't just make promises and fail to deliver. they should make promises and exceed the expectations

Weird finding the few verticle areas that you can get into. It looks like there were a lot of verticle areas which were cut out. Would have added a lot to the feel.

thank you someone has finally mentioned this. Man BDs are the biggest missed opportunity in this game; out of everything you can find noclipping, this hurts the most, and it's not even with noclip

this game has endless unfinished content that could be used as future dlc. the north badlands oil fields area and the unfinished westbrook area were definitely meant to be future dlc but they moved to unreal engine. areas such as downtown and non dogtown pacifica are definitely undercooked and could have used more content but it is what it is.
