Something a little different this time as we bring you along for the Mad Mike Summer Bash 2022 featuring open track drifting, cruising, show and shine, gymkhana, and the Summer Bash Drift Tournament.
This was also the first official shakedown for the mx5 and the first ever time on track. Overall the car performed amazingly even though it was never build for this sort of thing.
It was an awesome day and I really enjoyed getting to catch up with a bunch of you and talking about the build.

Thank you everyone for checking out this video! I know it's very different to what I normally show on this channel but I figured some of you would appreciate the inside look into the classic kiwi car scene. Update on the Stagea Build: Some of you that follow me on Instagram will have seen that I hit a bit of a roadblock with the fenders trying to get everything lined up and fitting correctly. As you can see I also had to do a little bit of work to the mx5 which took a few days and so there wasn't really enough time to make a video for the Stagea this week. I have sorted out the fitment issues now so I'm back into it and hope to get some more work done the next couple weeks and then we'll be back into my regular upload schedule. For anybody not following my on Instagram I post pretty regular updates and that is usually the first place I will share information regarding the status of these builds. The commentating was done by special guest and voice of Forumla Drift, Jarod DeAnda, who flew out to NZ for the competition. Was awesome having him here to hype up the crowd.

Just finished watching the fastback supercut and came here to see her rolling in true form. I seriously admire your build. So much effort, talent, and creativity in just the fiberglass fastback alone. The whole thing is perfectly curated from the wheels and tires to the decals and weathering. Also a huge fan of Mad Mike's RX-8. I absolutely love those things despite their rough reputation.

@@daniesalex7073 but probably not worth it, why go through the money and effort if its still fun like this, not to mention more reliable :P I don't know if its still his plan but a while ago he said he'll be doing an EV swap at some point to this car, so unlikely it will get much more power than it already has (either that or he has a lot more work planned for it than I am assuming lol)

@@___echo___ it is fun to keep the internals stock , do some preventative maintenance and regular maintenance, no stress or hassle . Now considering a swap or upgrades to the power train . If you have seen the amount of work , thought and passion he puts into what he does, he will think about everything before doing mods basically making them bullet proof or reliable

Nice! 😁 Just wondering: Don't you get overheating (brake) issues because the front is quite 'closed up' and the wheels are closed? That Lambo on Rotiforms is next level. Me like. I love that you get (almost) all the Japanese goodies in NZ. That's never gonna happen here. Nice experience I reckon 😉

The wheels performed great actually, no brake fade at all. Because they are 15x10 et-50 the rear of the wheel actually gets quite a lot of airflow from under the car. And yeah NZ's direct imports from Japan make our car scene pretty close to the motherlands.

Too bad you didn't get any real track time. Looks like they limited it to parade laps with a speed limit. Hopefully you can get a track day so you can do some testing and shake down. Car looked good though.

It was definitely a more laid back cruise for the first couple sessions. No helmets or overalls required. But towards the end of the day in the later sessions the speed limit became very optional. I don't really think I'd get any more out of it at a real track day since that's not really what it was built for, but it was fun to finally drive it somewhere other than onto a trailer.

The wheels are custom build 15x10 et-50 steelies with hand laid fiberglass aerocovers. I'm not able to produce them unfortunately so they're just one-offs for this build.

Not by a long shot, and probably never will be. In the future I'll aim to make my next builds road legal just to save a lot of the hassle that this one has been.
