Jack Kirby was heavily interested in the Norse myths and featured a somewhat different take on Thor in a pre-Marvel western story. The ‘Tales of Asgard’ feature was very much his baby.

I know, both the silver age Iron Man omnis are super OOP and hard to find, same was true with Hulk vol 1, Thor Vol 1 and X-Men Vols 1 & 2 for a long time

65 bucks is a steal price. I preordered this and Xmen vol 1! Well worth it. Next is Hulk and the impossible to get Iron Man

It’s so cool to see this book reprinted! I have volumes 2 and 3 but I could never find the first one for a reasonable price. I have this on order and I can’t wait to get it. Now Marvel needs to reprint some of the Iron Man omnibus that are hard to find. 😊

Let me add to the general sentiment, hope this book got enough orders for Marvel to reprint vol. 2 and print a vol. 4 as well. Certainly Marvel understands that while we are spending double or more in speculated books we are not purchasing other books from them right? And Thor does deserve all this love but what about Iron Man? 🙄

This omnibus looks so cool. The Silver Age of Marvel was by far the best compared to DC, all the concepts, all those wonderful ideas of Jack Kirby and Stan Lee were just amazing. I love it.

Maybe it's just me, but it is kinda weird to have a Olivier Coipel cover, with his costume redesign from some (10-15?) years ago, when the interior art is all from Jack Kirby with Thor in his original costume. It'd be as if there was some Golden Age omnibus where Superman is wearing the New52 costume on the cover.

I glad this is now set to come out. I ordered the reg edition as when the dm was solicited it was being advertised with a poster style image and not JITM, in the same way that the dm edition of Dr Strange is going to be done. I hope there is some love here to give thor reprints of vol 2 & 3.

Well first things first I'm hoping that this omnibus sells sufficiently well so that Volume 2 is reprinted. I already have Volume 3 so the spines won't match up, but there's nothing that I can do to change that situation

Nice review and video as usual Omar. Congrats on the 60k. Why is it that you lately give a date of release for DM and Book market and then it does not match. Sometimes IST publishes first the regular variant and a few days later the DMvariant? It's confusing

This is a guess, but I am thinking it has a lot to do with the paper shortage, and also the shipping/distribution issues the country has had lately. I agree, it gets very confusing and I have never seen it with this many DM and Normal covers on different dates.

I have the original printings of the first three Thor Omnis plus the Walt Simonson one. For the other issues I am getting digital copies of the Epic collections as a replacement for my Essentials volumes. I used to enjoying reading Essentials as they were a much cheaper way to read classic issues than Masterworks - which I only bought for the absolute best stuff. However, I now find that I want everything in colour. The only thing I am still reading on Essentials and won’t upgrade is Hulk, which is the only silver age / Bronze Age Marvel title which doesn’t get me very excited any more.

I already own Vol 1 since he's my favorite character, but I'm glad there was enough interest to warrant a reprint. Do I hope it sells well enough to get a Vol 4 made? Well, I already own the material in Masterworks, and I'm not a big fan of that period of Thor. That said... I would get a Vol 4 just to have John Buscema's Thor artwork in oversized format.

I missed out on the original because I was dumb and thought it would be around forever then one day gone... been waiting on this for years to the point it became my only whale and now.. the spine bugs me. I don't mind the spines at all I just hate that they no longer match. tempted to sell my vol.2 and wait on the reprint.

Check your local Ollie's! I just got this, LUKE CAGE, SORCERER SUPREME Vol. 3 and MOON KNIGHT(Huston) omnis for $24.99 each at Ollie's. Already had the MOON KNIGHT omni so I gave it to a friend. There was a ton of HELLFIRE GALA Red Carpet Edition hardcovers for $16.99. I wouldn't take one of those for free.

May sound like a dumb question..but I recently got into these Golden/Silver age omnibuses. What process did it take to make these old issues new again? I ask because you would figure the paper quality from that era had to have detoriated or have the paper quality faded by now. My Batman Golden Age Omnibuses are really amazing to read...they sure had lotssss of Dick Tracy type of gangster stories with 40s cars all the time

They probably save the original work in an archive and can scan it and enhance the print on a computer

So I’ve gotten around to reading this, after picking up a first printing years ago from a comic shop. One thing I noticed, the paper is definitely too thin on some pages, to the point where there are some printing errors showing overlapping panels. Happens towards the end of the book, specific example on page 456 for my copy. Bummer.

Just discovered Marvel omnis and reconnected with comics after finding this channel. Bled my savings account dry in past month buying the reprints of these Silver Age classics. (Well, travel is still very problematic here so gotta spend my money on something right?) Have this one ordered. I loved the Dr Don Blake tapping his cane to turn into Thor back in the original days (yes I’m that old). Not a fan of the jokey MCU version. Reading through FF 1 and XMen 1 at the moment. Plan to get all the silver age omnis so it looks like I chose the right time to get on board

My first printing the front of the book has same front cover design except the letters are white, not blue. The back of the 1st print doesn't have the hammer at all. Slight type differences in the credits. The first print also has Journey Into Mystery #86 original art in the extras in the back and it's omitted here, not sure why. The new printing has the alternate omni cover on the last page and the first print did not. I'm getting this printing too and keeping the first one as well though..

Never read any of the Silver Age Thor. I started collecting the Epics but am still missing vol. 1 of those so can't do a proper readthrough. Not really sure whether I'll be getting this omni or not - maybe further down the line if it's still available, and if I can get it at a bargain.

Forgive me for my ignorance, but do all these silver age omnibuses have these garrish recolors? There has to be a modern way of reading these comics in their original pallette?!

They have been restored to the closest color palettes when they came out. Keep in mind the paper stock they use for these are glossy and not the paper they used in the 60s. There are Taschen editions that might be what you are looking for.

I enjoyed the review. I don't know why most people are so bothered by the new spine and the paper Printing but it doesn't bother me I love it. With the paper Printing it has the authentic comic bookey kind of feel to it. Please Marvel don't change the Printing. But I can't wait for the other upcoming reviews on the new omnis. I am still hoping for the new Printing of the classic Amazing Spider man Omnibus volume 6 the late 70s and early 80's era.

I can’t figure out that one. For me Omnis are the ultimate. Much better than Epic or Masterworks. The letters pages are a big selling point for me.

Recieved this today I really hate it the paper is crazy thin. It’s bad enough the stupid font change on the side. Won’t be buying any more new (and not improved) omnibus when the first printings are better. Marvel is getting as bad as DC.
