I think Ghasts aren't ghosts cause they have collision with other entities and blocks (unlike vexes) and aren't affected by smite. But I think they were cats that converted to ghasts after being in the nether for too long, like how piglins convert to zombified piglins in the overworld and end, except after much, much longer. Ghast sounds come from cats in real life so it isn't that far of a stretch

I like this theory! But I think ghasts could also be some sort of other ancient creature that died/cursed and got trapped in the nether. Maybe something that experimented with regeneration to avoid death but went too far…

In my theory ghast is ghost of iron golem, 'couse its texture is similar . in my opinion ghast inhabited in village before as iron golem, then it died and falls into nether, reason of his cry is its desire to come back its own world.

My theory is that ancient builders was experimenting on some of them or other creatures to create something to heal. After they hided it in the nether. My theory is that ancient builders was trying to make some resources or effects renewable. They made wither skeletons for coal, piglins for gold (zombified piglins was an error) and ghasts for regeneration. They tried to create a new wood type so they created warped and crimson fungus. And in the end, they saw that endermans was killing only still existing type of dragons, ender dragons (which was a source of dragon breath). They created end crystals to protect the only alive dragon they found. They created them to recreate the ender dragon from it's egg's data too.

rather than saying the ender dragon was a human we could say that the ghasts originate from the nether and the easy to misinterpret text that you showed as evidence is just a misinterpreted text (the advancement uneasy allience) because if you take a struggling animal from its natural habitat to a safer place that is also called rescuing

I think the Minecraft updates are what's happening overtime as things are being discovered, in chronological order. Maybe the souls have escaped and are finding more things, and the souls are a greater power than the players since we discover more things (updates) after the souls. We already know souls exists because of the particles when you run on soul soil and soul sand having souls in their texture. However, as the updates go on, the souls try to escape from the soul sand and come out of soul soil. Because in the beginning, Minecraft only had soul sand, and the souls were inside the texture. But as time goes on (the Nether update), the souls escape. Also Player Heads have the same break texture as Soul Sand The ancient builders still exist, however. Think about all the new structures. More info to back up my theory is that fossils match up to a mob (I forgot which one though, I'm pretty sure the Warden?? Don't quote me on that one) Maybe, the ancient builders have evolved, hence the more advanced structures. But they have to still exist. And, Endermen can be a slightly infected version of the ancient builders because they can pick up and build blocks. Maybe the Wither is what the souls or ancient builders could have looked like before they were trapped in soul soil and sand, which is why you can make Withers with soul sand. Edit: *THERE IS PROOF THAT AN INFECTION OCCURED _AND_ THAT UPDATES ARE IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER*, in the form of Zombified Pigmen and now Zombified Piglins. Bringing a Piglin to the overworld infects them and converts them into a Zombified Piglin, and only Zombified Piglins are the only Nether mob can walk out of Nether portals naturally. This is probably what happened, a man (ancient builder) made a nether portal, went in, and got infected and turned into a Zombie Pigman. Overtime, as they got more infected, they turned into Zombified Piglins. The reason it's in reverse is that whenever the ancient builders move across dementions, they get infected or damaged in some sort, hence Enderman being EVERYWHERE in the Nether and trying to attack the dragon. Wearing a Carved Pumpkin on your head reminds them of how their homes, which were villages, were protected with something crafted with a carved pumpkin.

Here’s my theory. First of all. Regeneration also works on other mobs. Second, in Minecraft dungeons. There are baby ghasts. And they look like some sort of jellyfish like creature. Also, they are not undead mobs. And they also spawn a lot in soul sand valleys. Also, they drop gunpowder. But why? My theory is that ghasts are native to the nether. But they eat souls. And the souls posses its face. Causing them to cry. It would also explain why ghasts look like they don’t want to hurt us when shooting a fireballs. The soul sand valleys are their feeding grounds. And the gunpowder in them are actually digested soul sand. Why do they attack the player? They do it either because they want to eat our souls. Or because there are souls of ancient builders inside the ghasts and when they see us they try to call out to us or try to get the ghast away from us. That’s why ghasts don’t directly attack us. This is painful for the ghast so it tries to get rid of us so the souls inside of it can stop.

I think the ghast is the first sniffer, dont get me wrong, it looks big like a sniffer, maybe the ancient builders had a war with the people who found the nether, and then the sniffers got caught in the war and one got its head cut off but managed to make it to the nearest nether portal, but it changed over time, it mutated, it grew legs and became white, it flew, it was a ghast, it was trapped, in the nether, it couldn't fit back in the portal, so the portal slowly decayed and the portals that the ancient builders used became ruined, RUINED PORTALS, and then the ender dragon case, the ender dragon was gonna be a creeper and a ghast, but then it backfired and became a dragon, the ancient builders didnt know what to do with it so they threw it in the end dimension and the dragon was left to rot, but after a while of flying, the ender dragon found islands, and cities, and the dragon knew what to do, so he saw villagers in there, then the dragon threw purple fireballs at them (thats his ghast part) and then the vilagers mutated, and corrupted into endermen, then the endermen grabbed blocks from the overworld to created the TRUE end island, the one you get teleported to in the end portal, and thats how the ender dragon was created, and more proof it was made with a ghast and creeper, when the ender dragon dies, it explodes into exp, doesnt it? dont we know another mob that explodes, its the creeper part, and the ghast part is the part that the dragon can fly and shoot fireballs
