This model is a big seller in China, selling about 30,000 units a month. The price is a killer. The most expensive type costs only USD 6000. Most young people afford one. It is a standard short-distance vehicle, used to pick up children from elementary school and to go to the supermarket for groceries. (Chinese people are used to going to the supermarket frequently, but buying small amounts of food at a time). Because China's urban radius is smaller than that of the United States (for the same population size), the car's range of 170 km is acceptable.

Wei Jim - the range is more than sufficient for many applications. I live in the U K. And here market towns tend to be about 12 miles apart. This means even a car with limited range would give most people have a choice of two or three towns to shop at or visit. LOTs of people live in the countryside where there is no or virtually no transport. This is where these cars will revolutionize lives not in cities where transport is easy. - IF we ever get cheap electric cars that is.

The two asian countries where small cars sell like hotcakes have a network of a well networked high speed transportation services (hint: they both run on steel wheels and electricity). It's almost a given with this network people would buy cars that are better for local travel needs.

UK has Smart ForTwo EV, although it is converted from ICE car. In China, Geely decided to upmarket Smart brand to compete against Mini. There is no Smart ForTwo EV in China...

Only a retard with no girlfriend will buy one , then never be able to sell it second hand as Chinese build quality the same as a Kebab and unsellable , might get $500 for it with 500 miles on the clock if it works that long ? These will be like the Chinese motorcycles , you know the ones , there is one in every backyard in the US and the UK broken down with no spares and awful quality , rusty and wrecked in 12 months max ...

I can get a Renault Zoe 2017 for the same price. I think I rather go the Renault route than this. The Renault has double the horsepower, can be driven on highways, and have better crash-safety also. If this does 300km on one charge, its like twice the distance of the Renault, so thats a plus. But $10000 is way too expensive.

Double the price! ! For this all you get is a longer range on a car you will not want to drive far. This looks great for short-ish range trips into town at 5k US it's a buy at 10k US it's a joke.

3:57 absolutely wrong. The Gameboy version has a longer wheelbase, 70mm longer to be exact. Given the small size of this car, especially the limited space of the backseat, 70mm is not insignificant. Overall, it is wider and longer than the original version too.

You are correct (as usual haha). We saw that the Gameboy was longer, but didn't realize that it was in the wheelbase. (1940 vs 2010mm). That's doesn't change our conclusions regarding the car, but could make the back seat a bit more usable.

This would make a great tax in growing economy cities usually filled with 3 wheelers. Much more comfortable and efficient. The design also has potential for a mini SUV like the pajero mini or the suzuki jimny. It would be fun to have an electric small go anywhere vehicle.

This would be so very popular in US and Canada in today's market if they can keep up the supply. At the same time, the US car manufactures including GM would see this is a dangerous segment to enter as it may bring down other kinds of vehicle sales.

This is already available in the Philippines and seriously, it is growing on me slowly. I will go for a test drive soon! Hopefully I will get to love it. Too bad that the only color options we have here are the All Black and the Black and White.

This is an electric car and it is the size an electric car should be. All electric cars should be close to the size of this vehicle. But no, we all want to drive huge electric look-at-me SUV's with a battery that weighs nearly a ton. China will rule the EV market. Right now there are over 450 registered EV car manufacturers in China, all targeting the small EV market.

The Wuling Mini EV will be release in Indonesia in the next few month, with two type short range 200 km and long range 300km. Price estimated between US$17 to 25k. It will have high tech features such as keyless, auto start stop, electric parking brake, vehicle monitor system, TPMS etc

China's government has heavily subsidies and policy tilts on every EV car sold that doesn't exist in many other countries. So I guess the foreign version will be a little more expensive.

Hi Ethan Good to see you guys reviewing more cars, I can see what you mean about sitting on it rather than in the seat, Does that seat lower? Pity about the awkward looking seating position & rough ride. So much competition in that segment now but that size of car would make a great local transport / grocery getter.

At some point I expect to see cars like this in the US. If they could make an Americanized (faster, longer range, decent AC) version for $20k(out the door). it would sell. Right now all that’s available is worn out used cars that shouldn’t be on the road.

For urban areas these smaller cars make much much more sense. Much of Europe for instance, but all we see are adverts for like for like ESUV's Lets hope the UK market picks up soon, alongside bike infrastrcuture improvement!

I would buy this car if I live in China over any other mini ev. The main reason is that this car just looks so stylist. You can always put better suspension, and bigger wheels for better handling. It's a fun car for people who love modding.

At 10k I don't see why you would buy it, when you could buy the 5k one and spend the remaining 5k to customise it. Though the increased power, range, airbag and aircon might be worth it.

HOW? How did they fit 26kWh into this little parcel? I sincerely hope this car is being made ready to get into the European market. It will need more airbags. More accomodation to the rear passengers like surrounding shoulder padding. And larger/taller tyres. I'm uncertain of how easy it is to find a new tyre for 12" wheels. And a minimum rapid charge of 25kW (1C charge rate). But besides that. This Chinese electric car needs to be in the EU and US markets ASAP!

To be fair 12" tires are nice, finding tires won't be hard and the extra tyre sidewall does a lot to improve ride quality
