I put the Airmoto pocket air compressor to the ultimate test - how many times can it inflate a 140/80-18 tube tyre on a 4" motorcycle rim in real world conditions? I was surprised by the results!

I'm in the "due to get a puncture" camp. Got away with it many times with tubeless tyres over the years as a nail will generally slowly let air out. I have been looking into tyre sealants as apparently they are useful nowadays in tubes. But that pump is a little ripper and could get you out of trouble. Great review Josh. A+

Hello , remember me ☺️? Nice little unit there Josh, neat !! Believe it or not , I’m in the “had lots of flats and will have lots more” camp (true story) . I’m still using a hand pump , mine is 14yrs old and still rocking , but Ima thinking be time to grab one of those units , they look the goods . Old faithful will still be part of the furniture on the trips however .

Keep the little hand pump mate. When a riding buddy gets a flat, hand it over to them to use and keep your Airmoto fully charged for your own/Nat's flat tyres. We all know that dude who has none of their own goodies on board to get themselves out of the shit and always "borrow" your goodies, so let them suffer with the hand pump.😜

Cheers Cam you too mate 🤙 Just be careful with these things they are great but if they can accidentally get turned on (even just the light) while it's in your luggage, the next time you go to use it the battery is flat. Had that happen to me on a ride so I just stick with the old hand pump. If you can find one that comes in a hard case I reckon that would be the ticket 👌

Having had to pump up a Landrover tyre with a bicycle pump once (when up in the north-west with the Army, we discovered that the weakest point was the rubber tube leading to the valve where it got too hot. Would it be possible to get the short hose with steel braid for reliability ? Did that short hose get very hot ?

Hey Josh. Sorry if you have covered this in other comments below. In regards to using a 140 tyre. The 140 tyre is made to fit a 2.5 to 2.8 inch rim, in most cases. The T7 is a 4 inch rim hence the 150 tyre. In short the 140 tyre is too narrow for the bead to fit correctly on the 4 inch rim that's why the bead comes off the rim. I know many people use a 140 tyre, and so did I until I had a rear tyre flat when riding and the tyre came off the rim. Almost killed me, making the bike just about unrideable. I was lucky I was not going that fast and by luck missed a large rock when I went off the track. Spoke to the tyre company and basically they said no, no, no not the correct tyre for the rim size. I now have a 2.5 rim on my T7.
@MVDBR
@MVDBR 2 жыл бұрын
Shit aye, yeah I know a couple other blokes who switched to 2.5 rims mostly so they could chuck D606's on there 🙈 Where did you get your rim mate and how much did it cost? I can't really afford one atm anyway but be handy to know cheers 👍
@wonkywheels1037
@wonkywheels1037 2 жыл бұрын
I bought a complete wheel. But was told the correct rim is Excel 36 holes FFK422 18x2.5. The T7 hub and spokes go straight onto the rim. Cost under $500. If you lace the wheel even cheaper. But please check to ensure this is correct in regards to the rim. Changing tyres now is easier and tyres cheaper to buy. You can aso run a rim lock.

Good real world review. Impressive that it could 'pop' the bead back. However I've yet to find a compact compressor that can deliver enough volume (not pressure) to 'pop' it back when BOTH beads come off as often happens if you ride too far after the tyre goes flat.
@MVDBR

Yeah well this is a tube tyre, it will easily reseat both beads if you have a tube. If the bead comes off a tubeless tyre it's a whole other story 😬
