Kate's original crime that started her life on the run is revealed. Meanwhile, the survivors lay one of their own to rest, Kate sleeplessly watches over a feverish Sawyer, and Mr. Eko has a surprise for Locke regarding the hatch.
The survivors of a plane crash are forced to work together in order to survive on a seemingly deserted tropical island.
Lost is an American science fiction adventure drama television series created by Jeffrey Lieber, J. J. Abrams, and Damon Lindelof that aired on ABC from September 22, 2004, to May 23, 2010, over six seasons and 121 episodes. It contains elements of supernatural fiction, and follows the survivors of a commercial jet airliner flying between Sydney and Los Angeles, after the plane crashes on a mysterious island somewhere in the South Pacific Ocean. Episodes typically feature a primary storyline set on the island, augmented by flashback or flashforward sequences which provide additional insight into the involved characters.
Lindelof and Carlton Cuse served as showrunners and are executive producers along with Abrams and Bryan Burk. Inspired by the 2000 Tom Hanks film Cast Away,[1] the show is told in a heavily serialized manner. Due to its large ensemble cast and the cost of filming primarily on location in Oahu, Hawaii, the series was one of the most expensive on television, with the pilot alone costing over $14 million.[2] The fictional universe and mythology of Lost were expanded upon by a number of related media-most importantly a series of mini-episodes called Missing Pieces; and a 12-minute epilogue, "The New Man in Charge".
Lost has regularly been ranked by critics as one of the greatest television series of all time.[3][4][5] The first season had an estimated average of 16 million viewers per episode on ABC.[6] During its sixth and final season, the show averaged over 11 million U.S. viewers per episode. Lost was the recipient of hundreds of industry award nominations throughout its run and won numerous of these awards, including the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series in 2005,[7] Best American Import at the British Academy Television Awards in 2005, the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series - Drama in 2006, and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.

Ahhh, film strips like that can absolutely have the audio on them. We used to watch movies/films when I was in elementary school. The film 100% had an audio channel included on the film strip.

Correct. You could tell if there was audio track(s) on 16mm film by whether they had sprockets (holes) on both sides of the film or not. If they were only on one side, that meant the film probably had audio capability. Where the sprockets would be, there would be a copper colored strip that held the audio in the same way that magnetic audio tape works. Whether or not any magnetic storage medium should work in the hatch at all (like computer memory for instance) is another conversation altogether though 😆

Looking at 13:38 you can see the optical audio tracks on the right side of the film, but in this prop the channels seem to be silent, so that's probably a goof. The white lines form the actual soundwave pattern for the audio which is then read optically.

@@troubleondemand7703 ... All that aside, the simple fact that she watched the episode called Orientation, and watched on screen them play the film and it had audio on it, should be a clue.

Great theory about Kate's horse not just helping her escape but, more specifically, helping her escape so that she'll eventually end up on the island. My take on Kate's apparent 'real' reason for murdering Wayne is that we all lie to ourselves at times. Her mother turned her in, so perhaps, over time, the pain of this has increased her need to believe that she didn't, in fact, do it for HER. If Kate believes she did it for herself, her mother's betrayal feels slightly less devastating. It's like claiming it back, reframing it and making it her own. Because the alternative (being rejected by the person you were trying to protect) is too painful to live with. Really great reaction, thanks!

I ain’t denying that Wayne got what he deserved but you can’t call Mr. Austin high and mighty for not wanting to be a murderer, especially since he’s a army man 💀 The island is one thing but in the real world, you just go around killing people and not expect consequences lol. That’s just my opinion though, I still love your reactions and look forward to more!! 💯

Films have an audio channel encoded on the side of the strip outside the frame. It's amazing technology, really.

Who's to say that Kate didn't have more than one motive for what she did? If you see your step father hurting your mother on more than one occasion, then he puts the moves on you too, that is bad enough,.But to also find out that this guy that you thought was your step father and has putting the moves on you is really your real father, than can push someone over the edge. Especially if your mother refuses to save herself and leave. And Wayne knew he was Kate's father. Even a drunk gets sober occasionally and can figure out that the person that Kate thought was her father was actually fighting overseas when Diane got pregnant. I'm sure that even an idiot like Wayne can count up to 9 months and realize that for all but the last four of those months, San Austin wasn't in the country. And if the Dharma Initiative is warning not to use the computer or it could cause another "incident", which is obviously something they don't want to happen again. Maybe that incident is more serious than the generic name implies. Just a thought...

@@myitbos1335 And it's not just murder, the way she does 'blows up' her mother's life. She blows up/burns down the house her mother lives in, and likely all her mother's possessions aside from maybe a car and whatever few things she took to work. It would be a suspicious death and likely insurance wouldn't pay out, especially after Kate was being chased for the murder. And immediately after the explosion, the mother would likely be a suspect & investigated by the police, dealing with no place to live, owning almost nothing, on a waitresses pay etc. Not to mention dealing with the psychological issues surrounding abused women typically have. Gee, I wonder why she might have turned Kate in.

@@p-forest Kate was raised in an abusive household and people suffering from long term trauma (particularly if it begins during childhood) usually can't think clearly/make good choices. We accept that Diane was a victim of abuse but so was Kate.

The way I screamed when Sawyer said he loves Kate🥺 I think she was really happy to see him again and that he is getting better. Her family is really messed up yes and it’s really sad that she thinks there’s nothing good about her because of it. I like that she smiled and was relieved when Sawyer stopped being possessed by Wayne because I think deep down she knows that there’s good in him and she cares about him.

The Episode title is rather interesting. It was in response to many viewers frequently asking the Producers about Kate's criminal backstory. The title was also inspired by the 19th century book, "What Katy Did" by Susan Coolidge about a young girl who suffers a personal tragedy and later learns to be good.

It was cool seeing Jin and Locke talk to each other for the very first time in the show. BTW the actors Daniel Dae Kim and Terry O'Quinn later appeared together in the "Hawaii Five O" reboot series, as did Jorge Garcia (Hurley). As for the bolt cutters, a rather odd tool to be found in the Swan station. Maybe it was a case of better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

I am loving the fact that you were just on board with Kate blowing up the house lol. Wayne definitely deserved it and yes maybe Kate did it for herself and not just for her mother. I think it's both but she doesn’t wanna admit it to herself that she also killed him for herself. I get why her mother turned her in but I still think she’s not a good mother. She should've gotten out of that relationship years ago for her own good and for her daughter. I totally understand why Kate did what she did, I probably would’ve tried to get Wayne arrested first but yeah I get it

Not to say that whatever film you edited wasn't the way you said it was, but other styles of film have the audio track added to the film. It's a single piece of film and the projector has the audio reader attached to it. @ 13:39 When they zoom in on the film that John is holding, the two white vertical lines, on the right side, are for the left and right audio tracks. 👍

Aside from the fact that I don’t ship them anyways I hate Jack and Kate’s first kiss. She’s clearly having a panic attack and not in the right headspace and he doesn’t let her go. He has the right intentions obviously wanting to calm her down but when she kisses him he should’ve pulled away given the state she was in. It’s just awkward and I don’t think it was good for either of them cause Jack will get his hopes up and Kate will just be more confused than she already was

In episode S1E3, Kate tells the old farmer who was staying with her that she had trust issues. How could it not be otherwise when the two people who are supposed to love her the most either report her to the marshal or let her commit murder because he couldn't do it himself. So the people who love Kate are betraying her. This is probably why she rejects Jack after kissing him. She doesn't want him to betray her in one way or another like those who love her. For Sawyer, it's simpler. She already knows this is what will happen. He already did it when she tried to get a place on the raft. So, no disappointment.

@@kenok1225 "Someone"? Kate isn't a random someone. She's Diane's daughter. And Diane allowed her child to be raised in an abusive household, which is neglect at best and (also) abuse, at worst. Kate was never Diane's priority. I've never loved anyone as much as I love my child and if they had killed my partner (ultimately because of my own parental failure to protect them), the only thing I would be feeling is terror for what might happen to them because of it.
