The second of two parts on the procedures and considerations of working up your Snider at the common range of 100yds. The main concepts are just as relevant to other Victorian weapons such as the Martini and Enfield as well.

This video, and your last on the Snider have convinced me to get one now. Now it's just to try and find one in a decent condition. I was originally planning on a 577-450 Martini Henry, but the 577 Snider seems much easier to reload for, and much cheaper. Also you are an incredible wealth of knowledge when it comes to these classic firearms.

Yes has taken a while its zeroed a couple of inches high at 100m and i know where the bullet will strike out to just past 200m as i use it for hunting deer that's as far as I will shoot. you can probably understand this as well I have a heavy barreled Sako topped with a nightforce 5x22x56 scope shoots 1/4 inch groups and when i reach into my safe to go hunting I always seem to drag out the Snider and Martini and the sako stays at home I think the black powder has done something to my brain.

I took the rifle into a gunsmith today and asked him about refinishing the stock to improve the looks. He stated that would actually reduce the value of the rifle. So I took it home and cleaned it myself, still getting rust and dirt out of the barrel, minor pitting on the inside of the barrel. No cleaning rod and no firing pin. What do you recommend to clean the wood. Your videos are very informative and educational and I assume you are very busy, but I would love to see you doing a comparison video of the Martini Henry, Trapdoor 45-70, and the Mauser 1871.

IMA is where you will find one cheapest... They are Nepalese Sniders and have some foibles in regards to shooting but if you are just going to hang it on the wall,...... there are many antique dealers about that you might find a better example of an Ordnance pattern Snider. Just google for ones for sale and see whats out there. You'll pay more, typically, but if it's provenance you want, then that's the way to go.

@britishmuzzleloaders
@britishmuzzleloaders 7 жыл бұрын
Of course, first, I'd have to own a Mk IV..... which I don't.... :-) That said, there is no real difference in general shooting applications. Maybe if they were carried for a fortnight in a dust storm, with rolled cartridges getting all beat up in the pouch, covered in dirt and exhibiting damage, then there might be a difference. For shooting 80 or so drawn brass rounds on a given day nowadays, there really is no difference. They both eject just fine... Personally I can't stand the look of the Mk IV.... :-). I don't have a Patreon account, although you are not the first to ask.... Maybe one day....

Hi Sam. At the 11:00 mark I indicate that I use the sight correction tool in the Figure of Merit Spreadsheet. To do it as a stand alone evolution, it's just simple algebra. Height of group on target in inches {over} range to target in inches = X (or sight adjustment in inches) {over} sight radius in inches..... solve for X.
