Bless you Ryan for bringing clarification to the speaking in tongues. I to experienced a time in my life where I went through a charismatic period. The goal of the teachings of that ministry was to eventually work everyone up to the fervor of speaking in tongues. I struggled with this mightily as I felt like I was a failure to God when I couldn't. Fortunately for me, and I believe to this day that the Holy Spirit intervened on my behalf and led me away from that ministry. Happy Sabbath!

Wow! What awesome rescuing of the righteous; while lovingly & unrelentingly pursuing Truth. Jesus said to righteous Peter, “when you are converted, strengthen your brother”. As we are continually converted to truth, may we also, strengthen our brother, regardless of the cost to us. The church of our Lord Jesus is one entity with many individual members, but denominationalism (though well intended) has splintered the church into many entities. More efforts like this one by Pastor Ryan, needs to be pursued to reach across denominational barriers (with less time constraints placed on Holy Spirit to get His messages out).

Thank you for this study and clarity. I grew up in the same type of church and I never really believed or understood it and it was not explained. I felt forced to speak in tongues to believe I was saved and it didn't feel real.

The best sermon explaining speaking in tongues. Thank you&would you like to send me the sermon of pastor Ryan Day about music( the cells in our body make music.......). I watched that video last year&I can not find it&I can not remember the name of that video.

Another interesting question Ryan. How do they begin to speak in tongues? My friend told me that she was trained to speak in tongues which contradicts what scripture says in Acts 2. I have a personal relationship with Christ and each time I pray I ask him to sprinkle His Holy Spirit on me. Even though I feel I have the Holy Spirit, I have never spoken in tongues. My friend insists that if I attend her church and pray with them then I would be baptized with the Holy Ghost and start speaking in tongues🤔 That’s a no no for me.

Clarity: it is the Spirit that quickeneth. Even with simplicity in a known language, one can fail to get it right. The devil is also making his interpretations as he did to Eve, to confuse and claim ownership of us. Open our mind (our central processing unit) dear Lord because you use a simple language to us and the evil one comes in the night with tares/a different light

Tongues doesn't have to be confusing.

I think you are mostly on the right track here with many excellent insights, however I wish to respectfully disagree with one point. I disagree with your claim that the true gift of tongues never needs to be interpreted, because the true gift of tongues on the day of Pentecost didn’t need to be interpreted. This leads you to posit that the tongues speakers in Corinth didn’t have the true gift of tongues because interpretation was necessary. I ask you to consider that in spite of their manifest worldliness the believers in Corinth were still true believers in Christ, who Paul simply wished to correct for their misuse of tongues. It was still the true gift of tongues but they were misusing it. You are correct that in 1 Corinthians 14:2 these are not heavenly languages and certainly not the gibberish nonsense currently in vogue, but we’re known human languages that were being used selfishly without regard to edifying the gathered church. But even the true gift of tongues would need to be interpreted if no one in the congregation understood the language. If these people were not grandstanding about their spiritual giftedness they never would have been spouting off like they were to begin with. They would have just prophesied so people could benefit. That seems to be Paul’s point. Also he wasn’t completely forbidding speaking in tongues (known languages) but saying they must provide an interpretation (translation) or shut up basically.🙂 Just some thoughts for consideration.

Hey pastor Ryan I get what your saying but what if you will have a holy spirit moment and it just causes you to fall down...but your still and control but you just have a sensation of falling down.. because.. that of the holy Spirit moment that happens to me alot ..... Doesn't the holy Spirit make you fall
