It’s deeper than that, obedience is a gift… God writes His Law on our hearts, it is fruit of the Spirit that only comes as fruit of abiding in Him. The way you describe it seems to put too much emphasis on us. How much love do we need before WE keep His commandments? Sounds like the old covenant. In context it seems better understood that If we are abiding in Him (the source of love), His gift is to give us His love (He IS love, Him in us). Of course His Law is also love and the new covenant has HIM writing it on our hearts, enabling us to cherish and live out His commandments. This is the Light that shines in us that when people see His good works in us (“our good works”) it glorifies God as the source. The good works that Eph 2 says is the gift of God. In Eph 3 Paul says we can even have Him fill us with ALL the fullness of God (Love/Law). That doesn’t happen by US manufacturing enough love, the love is the result of Him in us. Rom 6:4 tells us it’s nothing less that His resurrection power that enables us to live the new life. ❤ We need the new heart that only God can give (Ezek 36), the mind of Christ that isn’t drawn to sin. It doesn’t mean we won’t have Gethsemane experiences, but only He can get us through it. The surrender needed is also a gift, we can’t even do that on our own. But He never forces it upon us. The goodness of God leads us to repentance too. The vital principle is that He gets all the credit, all the glory. In Rev we cast our crowns at His feet showing it was none of us, and all of Him that got us there. ❤
