We use it for about three people everyday in the morning. The taste and quick brew is one of the reasons we like it so much. There are so many choices of brands of coffee that we would grab what was on sale and test the different brands from there. I would definitely recommend trying different brands of coffee to find the ones you like the most because there are brands that quite frankly taste horrible.

FWIW, things sold at the MoMA store are not necessarily in the permanent design collection, and neither of these coffee makers is. The store has to fill its shelves, and most of the objects in the permanent collection are no longer manufactured. Also, the permanent collection has much higher standards than the store. There are four coffee makers included in MoMA's permanent design collection. The two still being manufacture are the Chemex brewer and Alessi's model 9090 espresso pot, designed in 1978 by Richard Sapper.

Moka pots are classic. The shape is iconic, they are used all over the world by all kinds of people. And they make rich delicious coffee. My first experience was when on vacation about 10 years ago and the house had one. Didn’t know how to use it but my daughter said “this is what we used in Cuba!” (She was there for about 6 weeks living with a family). Then our Brazilian friend said this was what she used in her home and her family uses in Brazil.
@astraz40492 жыл бұрын
An Italian that always used a moka pot here: first of all, great content! :-) that been said, possibly the main reason why an the gemini has no handle it's beause in Italy the vast majority of houses has gas stovetop, and when you are using a moka on a gas stove you simply stop the brewing process by turning it off as you have no hot surface that can keep giving out heat to the moka... so using something like the gemini, you could turn off the gas, wait a couple second that the brewing ends completely and you coud take your cups with you to drink, getting back to the moka pot when it's completely cold and secure to handle :-)
@auntlynnie2 жыл бұрын
For the moka pot, I would pick up the cups, then use my mitt to move the pot off of the burner, using the red part as a handle. (But yes, a handle on the back of the pot would be a better design.)
@jsdouglas26122 жыл бұрын
Ahh, see, the coffee is still brewing into the cups though. You remove a moka pot from heat before the brew is done. It’s easier on a stove where you can turn off the heat without it retaining some.

For the issue that was mentioned at 14:46 (the coffee chamber not standing up), I put the chamber on the upper part of the moka pot, so that it rests on the outer wall of the container and the coffee outlet at the center. It can be used should you want your coffee less strong (not me 🤷🏻♀️😅) The rim you see In the filter compartment will fit/hold that extra filter perfectly reducing the amount of coffee with almost half than when using the whole compartment. But considering we have two moka pots of this general design in my kitchen and both have a small plastic handle (I can't find a good example still in store, but Bialetti had a good example of this at a time) so you can at least handle the pot around the stove to get it on a cooling spot when your cups are brewed. It's very similar to the standard Moka pot (including being able to use the standard basket, screen, and gasket. While the Express has that clever two-spout head, the one I picked up has a single copper tube which goes up a few inches and turns back down. It does, have a rubber protector in the tube, so it's possible to move it when hot. I suspect it was marketed as a campfire coffee maker.

My idea for how to add a handle: a separate piece shaped shaped sort of like a tuning fork. A straight part which you hold, and a "U" shape that you position under the "wings". The two arms could have a little protrusion at the ends to create a positive grip (preventing it from sliding).

There’s a certain point where price does not indicate “better quality” and this perfectly describes the $100 pour over that does not improve brewing experience or quality. I just love watching people talk anything about coffee but she makes it so much more entertaining for me than already it is :) p.s. Am I seeing things or her saucer was actually chipped? Btw I love glassware in general but the carafe has such a poor design both in form(which is of course is a subjective matter) and functionality that I am perplexed about the price tag.

You should check out the Bialetti Mini Express. It's similar to the Gemini, but has a plastic handle on the spout. Comes with a pair of adorable shot cups. I don't use it anymore but it will be a part of my collection forever
