Even though my mom was born in Mexico, I will always root for the USA.. The country that I was born and raised in. Because at the end of the day if I go to Mexico, I’m the American not Mexican my family reminds me that.

@@TheDean4821 - That happens probably all around the world. An American born of immigrant parents travels back to see extended family, and they remind the "American" that they aren't authentic. LoL. It's technically true, but it's also kind of ridiculous. Family can enjoy family without being divisive. Not too difficult, and that goes for the opposite if Motherland's relatives comes to visit family in America.

Nah if his whole fam is from Mexico and he grew up steeped in El Tri fandom he's of course going to root for Mexico. I actually lived in Mexico for years for work, and I now root for them when they're playing someone outside of Concacaf, but no matter how many years I would have lived in Mexico I would have still always been a USMNT die-hard first and foremost, and if I had a son there you best believe I would have done my best to make sure he would be too haha.

An immigrant can be leaving his homeland to come to the American Dream and be deeply grateful for the U.S. giving him a chance at improving his life. They will assimilate while maintaining a love for the country of origin. Makes sense to me. Yet, they might out of thankfulness be loyal now to the U.S. in sports competitions like the World Cup or Olympics. Or not. America is a special kind of oddity that way: A massive diversity of peoples from around the world coming for The Dream. Some immigrants as an act of love for their extended families back home want to support that nation in sports competitions. Others, though, are hostile against the U.S., though they emigrated to the States and draw off of American generosity. They root against the U.S., yet choose to still in the States. Yeah, that cross-section of people are the types where my immigrant relatives would say to their face: "Why are you here? Go back home."

Or if their family emigrated here at a young age, then assimilate into the overall culture of the U.S. Doesn't mean giving up the mother tongue or culture, but it IS a new country, so adapt and gratefully engage as an American. It's Common Sense, it's not being disloyal to one's family's previous origins. America is a trip that way, and we shouldn't in any way be ashamed of the U.S. in sports competitions. It's supposed to be about friendly competition, not virtual war and bigotry. Honestly, fighting over sports? Put the beer down, act like an adult, root for your team, and respect the game for what it is: Entertainment. If anyone gets so caught up in it that they must prove their manhood against the rival fans, they need to grow the _____ up. ( Rooting for Mexico, because one's family is from there, is one thing, but rooting against America as an American, regardless of where one's family comes from, seems pretty messed up. Go down to Mexico and root against Mexico and see how that goes. Not you, just sayin'. )

My family is Argentinian and I was born in the US and they always route for Argentina no matter what and USA is second but I can’t do it, I feel more proud when the USA win. There’s no feeling of watching your country win in the worlds game, especially when they are often the underdog.

It really complicates things for those with 2 Different countries involved. For me, however, having Family in the US and Sweden, I am at a loss of who to pick. I have ALWAYS picked the United States (I was born in the US) and will continue to pick the US, even when they play Sweden.

@@Canev821 Exactly. What I do is when the 2 countries play each other, I cheer for the USA. All other times when the US and Sweden don't play each other, I can cheer for Sweden in European Competition and outside of Matches against the US. The same can be said for the US and Argentina. It can be complicated, but at least it works. It's just a matter of if they're playing the US.

Mexico feels like the USA of 3-6 years ago. Has good young talent, refuses to play young guys because they can’t move on from the old guard. Struggling to get players overseas, and when you do get players overseas your coach or federation refuses to use them under the guise that they aren’t familiar with the team, having travel issue, and or “disciplinary reasons”

They have young players coming but Liga MX refuses to develop them or send them out to Europe. I thought the US had a bad cycle for developing players a couple years ago but Mexico's seems like it won't end unfortunately.

Sadly, it’s something that is never going to change and fifa won’t do anything about it, because what team fills the stadiums internationally ? Mexico fans are always at every game no matter the distance and that benefits fifa $$$ wise. I wish things were different as well but the fans that do such things are so hard headed and will never want to understand the importance of these things.

US fans care during World Cup years. However, if you go to Europe, and I am sure you're aware of this, the Home Supporters there will absolutely dominate attendance numbers, especially in countries like France, Spain, Sweden, and Italy because Europeans take their football more seriously. Mexico's dominant area outside of Mexico seems to be the US, particularly in areas where there is a large Hispanic population, like Phoenix. England Fans will pack their Stadium. Spanish fans will pack their stadium. They care about Soccer, I always support the US in Soccer (even outside of World Cup Years), and I will continue to support my country, no matter where I am. My only question: Fan behavior is one thing if it comes from the Home Fans because the Home Team (In this case, the USA) and CONCACAF will address it with their fans. However, for the fan behavior to be coming from fans of the Visiting Team who dominated attendance numbers is interesting. This has happened so often and it even happens when Mexico does NOT play the US for friendlies Stateside. How do FIFA, the Mexican FA, other National FAs (I.e. Iceland), event organizers, CONCACAF, and US Soccer address the behavior of visiting team supporters that flat out dominate their Northern Rivals in attendance?

@@christiangarciaaaa Actually, every time the USA vs Mexico matches are held in Columbus, Ohio...it's clear USA fans dominant the stadium. Perhaps, the matches should be held in smaller stadiums in (Columbus, OH; Green Bay, WI; Portland, ME; Buffalo, NY, etc). Make it harder for these Mexicans to access these smaller limited access cities. Just see the USA vs Mexico matches that have been held in Columbus, Ohio...Google it.

@@Ssj4vegeta212 i was born in the US, but moved to Mexico around 5 years old and stayed until i was around 12 and moved back to the States. at first i rooted for Mexico just because i wasnt into soccer and just did it because i only watched the world cups with family back in Mexico. that only lasted until 2014 and stopped caring all together until recently and i pull for the US

i mean the Mexican fans can’t let the game end on it’s own they have to be babies about it and call people homos.
