Apologies not posting picks, comments were up and then vanishing on the night, Craig had the same issue. I went with Don't Torture A Duckling (my...extra pick for Fulci breaking rules) Delirium - 1987, there's a few with that title What Have You Done To Solange? The Suspicious Death Of A Minor Your Vice Is A Locked Room And Only I Have The Key. The Night Evelyn Came Out Of THe Grave BUT my other picks that were nicked.... The Strange Vice Of Mrs Wardh The Case of the Scorpion's Tail (and I added All The Colours Of The Dark in quickly as Martino did 6 gialli and I adore 5)

When I was 13 my Dad took me to see Peices in a theater in Middletown NY, he would tell my Mom that we were seeing the latest monster movie and take me to these types of movies. Looking back i think he just wanted to see movies with some T&A and he used my love of monster movies as his excuse for going to them😊

In a perfect world sure we'd like to see weekly shows from Pete and co, but we as viewers have to understand that they have lives outside of Sea of Tranquility. During the height of the pandemic in 2020 to 2021 when lockdowns were in place, there was more time for extra content, but now things are more or less back to normal, so other things happen. Let's be grateful for the content we do get at the moment.

my all-time fave giallo is Torso. also love Delirium (1972), The Case of the Bloody Iris & Strip Nude for Your Killer. an interesting one that i don't think was mentioned is French Sex Murders (1972). it features a Humphrey Bogart lookalike detective. it's a weird one.

The girl who knew too much, What have they done to your daughters?, The perfume of the lady in black, The pyjama girl case, Your vice is a locked room and only I have the key. Not an Italian film but The house that screamed from '70 totally feels like a giallo, the story is pretty much Suspiria in the 19th century.

Dear chaps, I am not a Giallo expert, however, while looking for a "Poirot with a twist" I stumbled across "The Bloodstained Butterfly" (Una farfalla con le ali insanguinate) from 1971. I do not know where this fits on the "Spectrum of Awesomeness" but I would like to mention a few observations (without giving away any spoilers): 1 - I would swear that the film of the killer "in action" had a different gender to the actual killer. 2 - Strangely a lot of the plot was moved forward through the court case. 3 - The killer confessed and I had to watch it again to try and understand it ("But there was...?" "But what about...?''') 4 - The cops did not do much. 5 - There was a running joke about the cops drinking coffee...which I just did not understand....was it comic relief? Interesting. The film stars Helmut Berger. I found this great quote about him "Except for Helmut Berger, there are no interesting women today." - Billy Wilder, referring to Berger's drag performance as Marlene Dietrich's The Blue Angel in The Damned By the way, I read that giallo ("yellow") derives from a series of crime-mystery pulp novels. If that is not true then it should be true. Keep up the good work chaps.
@DavysFlicks
@DavysFlicks Жыл бұрын
It is indeed true. Very similiar to us saying pulp fiction (which...we don't now as everyone thinks we mean the movie!) - the novels were published with these yellow covers, a bit like how Penguin classics were in those orange covers. I mentioned here that Massimo Dallamano who directed my pick What Have They Done To Solange was the cinematographer on the first two Man With No Name westerns with Leone/Eastwood. Well, DuccioTessari who wrote and directed Blood Stained Butterfly, also wrote Fistful Of Dollars. He also directed the wonderful Ringo films (the westerns..not the Beatle!) Butterfly is a really tight film. It's absolutely a brilliant giallo and honestly, deserves to be in this conversation so thanks! Arrow released a STACKED bluray of it from a 4K master in the UK and US. And like I said about titles being ripped off....it led to Bloodstained Shadow!

Spasmo by Umberto Lenzi. The Church by Michele Soavi. And an American Giallo ( I believe it is) Don't Look Now starring Donald Sutherland. The Night Evelyn Came out of the Grave. And a hidden gem by Fulci - The House of Clocks. Shudder has a Giallo category also.

Craig and Chris both just saw Laughing Windows and didn't love it, I believe. Eli Roth thinks it's one of the best gialli and the BFI showed it last year as one of the best examples of the genre. It's not on bluray anywhere worldwide which is a sin. A Pupi Avati boxset from Arrow or Severin would sell like hotcakes. Cheers.

As good a way to spend an hour and a bit as watching most of these gialli. I bow to your superior knowledge when it comes to the picks but let me tell my Italian anecdote: Spent a fortnight railcarding Italy as a student around 1980 and kept seeing lots of cinemas with lurid posters and the word 'Oggi' pasted on. 'Hmm', we thought, 'must be kinda like Phwoar! indicating very spicy films indeed' (Davy will understand our confusion). Eventually the one of us with a phrase-book found out 'Oggi' means 'Today'. Luckily our choice was still well worthwhile with 2.7 metric tonnes of boobs.
