As horrifying as this story is, I think it is good to hear precisely because it drives home the importance of treating mental illness. People who don't suffer from mental illness often don't believe it exists because it tends to be invisible to the outside world. It is incredibly sad, and I can only hope those poor souls have found some kind of peace.

I suffer from mental illness; the details aren't important. But it's incredibly frustrating when someone you've known for a long time just says 'get outside" as if it was that easy. Being dismissed bc people don't get adds insult to injury. It's hurtful and reinforces to society that "it's all in your head".

I had a friend who covered herself in gasoline & tried to light herself on fire in the shower, but was unable to light a match due to her hands shaking before she was found. Her therapist later said that self immolation was THE most painful & violent way a person could chose to end their life. I think about that a lot.

Thats so sad, but glad she couldnt start the fire. I had a patient with previously unmedicated bipolar and set himself alight, only for his 10 year old daughter to find him and call an ambulance. That was 20 years ago. He's had numerous skin grafts and surgeries ansd lives with those heartbreaking injuries. Burning alive is one of my fears.

Bro, Bera here. I'm your schoolmate. It's been a while since we last spoke. I was about to type and share the same thing . I still remember her as our substitute music teacher for a few months who taught in place of Bablu sir. She used to wear this 3 quarter type skirt, wore women's formal shoes, had boy's cut hair and thick glasses. The vividness with which we all remember her is eerie coz she was there for only a few months. I guess some people are difficult to forget.

Hi Adrian! I am from Kolkata and remember vividly the time this happened. The whole city was baffled that something so tragic could happen right under everyone's noses.... We Bengalis are very much attached to our families to the point that we never really learn to cut the umbilical chord and are happily dependent on each other. But the lose of such connections can be a severe trauma that without grief counseling is painfully difficult to overcome.... The 'crime' in this story is the failure of society and government to provide adequate support in terms of a community and mental welfare..... Hope the family now finally finds some peace and are together wherever they are...

There was a story in France with a teenager named Nadir who went into cardiac arrest during an exam. He had a condition since he was a child and had a pacemaker, he fainted during the exam. The highschoolers present in the room reacted instantly: they opened windows to try to give him extra air, some went to check on him on the floor, but the teachers watching the exam immediately told them to go back to their seats instead. The teenagers ignored them and kept trying to help him, but he laid there, dying. The teenagers started yelling and crying, so another teacher came from another room and called 911... yet the headmaster was saying how they needed to change room to continue the exam. The highschoolers were shocked and mad, and most of them left (out of ~80 students, about 10 stayed to take the exam.) It happened this year in France, everybody was shocked that teachers just let the poor child die without instantly calling 911 or trying to apply first aid. The teenagers were the ones reacting and trying to save their friend's life while the adults were doing nothing. Apparently, it happened very fast so Nadir would have most likely died before help could come, but they knew about his condition yet didn't react, they didn't even call for an ambulance instantly and they kept acting as if continuing the exam was normal. All those teenagers literally saw someone die in front of them, mid-exam, but it's like none of the adults were truly understanding what was going on.

I remember this case when it was all over the news channels in 2015. I was in my hometown, Kolkata that summer. My mother, a medical doctor visited Partho when he was admitted to the Pavlov mental institution. I still remember that she was extremely surprised how soft spoken and kind gentleman he was. The media had initially made him a psycho killer but it was all about mental health.

I am from Calcutta and I remember clear as day the morning this news broke, creating shock ripples. It's a depressing case and reveals how some people cope with loss in dysfunctional ways. Loss (especially the loss of loved ones, including pets) can cripple people, and letting go can be a hard thing. Mental health support needs to become a societal investment to help people cope with loss and trauma. This red home, on Robinson Street, is near my school and was very familiar to me, so to hear about the horrors this home hid really shook me. I love listening to true crime (including dark, morbid, and even tragic cases like this), and I find your videos strangely therapeutic.

You should do this on the Lindley Street house in Bridgeport Connecticut. There are articles of police officers who were too scared to walk into the home and reported a talking cat, floating furniture, etc. and it’s been hush hush since the 90s.

How incredibly sad and heartbreaking. This is why televangelism is such a big problem globally. It’s not the first case I’ve heard of of a death being linked to televangelism. Yes, this 100% could have been avoided with proper mental health care, but when a preacher on tv is telling you “no, you’re not depressed or anxious, it’s demons, now send me money” someone with severe mental health problems will buy into that and this is the result!!

This is perhaps the story I need right now, because I am on my slippery slope towards depression. My story might not be as horrifying as De family, but I know it's much more important now to keep my mental well being, knowing that it can lead into darker and deeper ends if I do not do anything about it.

It's unforeseeable when everything is going well that your mental health can ever get to that state. It's terrifying to think what can happen if you don't have enough meaningful connections to help you through an event such as losing someone dear to you. It's something that we all go through eventually and we should always look out for those who will need your support. We get lost in daily life and sometimes it's hard to be there for each other.

This is heartbreaking. This is eerily similar to the story about Rhina Yasutake and her family. It’s obvious he was socially inept, the family had shared hysteria/delusions and severe mental illness. And when very few people interact with them, it’s impossible to know something is wrong until it’s too late. What’s even more tragic is that their other family members were right next door. I’m very glad that you told it in a tactful, respectful way making it very clear that this wasn’t a matter of moral defect, but the result of trauma and how mental illness can escalate, especially in isolation among family members. My heart really feels for this family. It makes me wonder if he had accepted her death and was going about daily life not realizing he was interacting with a corpse. Thank you for sharing stories that are tragic, but the people involved aren’t bad or evil, just sick and heartbroken.

Mental Health continues to be a source of taboo, yet we all experience mental health. It's so sad that this family isolated themselves to such a degree that there was no one to identify the issues and enable them to access the support, they so badly needed. I guess it seems that we are living in a society whereby not knowing our neighbours, and disconnected from family, has become the norm - isn't that sad

Hey Adrian! Been following your channel for a couple of years now. Your passion for communicating these cases has attracted thousands of people every week, thanks for your hard work. I have a quick question out of curiosity. I've seen you cover cases from almost all over the world except from Latinamerica, which sadly, there are much more than I can count. I have my speculations of why that is but, is there any particular reason why you wouldn't cover them? Besides the case of Suzane Von Richthofen, there are far too many old and recent, interesting and heartbreaking cases from Colombia, Ecuador, Chile, Argentina, Bolivia, Venezuela, Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica.... you name it. Keep up the good work my man!

But as someone who struggles with anxiety, depression, cptsd and adhd (with the free space, that gives me like the mental illness bingo prize or something right?)
