@@nickdronesphotography4643 I like mine. It's very heavy. I mean, like I didn't expect it to weigh as much as it does. It's also more convenient than other ones that cost less. But you're right about needing a dock as this is a dock/stand, but of course has limited I/O.

My ideal set up is having a docking station that allows the use of the Mac screen, as that’s one of its best features I don’t want to hide it. I do have four other monitors on my desk, so maybe I’m overthinking it.

I've been using one of these Brydge Docks and have had a Henge Dock in the past. For me, the biggest problem with the newer Henge Docks is the interface with the ports in the Macbook. With the Henge Docks and the older Macbooks, this interface had at least three ports to secure the device in the dock. Not allowing much wiggle room. However, with only one or two Thunderbolt ports to hold the Macbook in place, there seems to be too much wiggle room. This means, in the Brydge Dock, my Macbook is prone to random disconnects from the devices I have connected, in the back, through the dock's TB3/USB-C pass-through ports. If Brydge were able to make the docks fit better, this wiggle room wouldn't be a problem. However, it seems that Brydge's response to this issue is to simply offer a return/refund. This I would normally be happy to do. However, it seems Brydge are taking a no fault approach to this and expecting me to accept a reduced refund (value of the dock minus my cost for shipping and a devaluation/restocking fee). This means I would potentially be out of pocket due to a design/manufacturing failure. If this is their final position on the matter, I will be taking this up with the relevant consumer protection authorities (here in Australia). NB: Go to 1:25, in this video, to see how the Macbook is actually pushed up by the spring loaded mechanism, making the connectivity issues only worse!

MacBooks are not designed to be used in clamshell mode for extended periods! The heat is not properly dissipated and causes the battery to overheat and swell. The heat also damages the screen coating leaving visible marks where the hot air has passed over it. I had to have my 2009 MBP 13” serviced when it’s battery swelled from overheating in clamshell mode, the swelling deformed the Palm rests and startled to affect the trackpad.
@AppleInsider
@AppleInsider 4 жыл бұрын
This isn't true. Don't spread this misinformation. The heat is actually very well dissipated. They designed clamshell mode for a reason. It may get a little warmer, but it isn't going to hurt the machine. You likely just had a rare one-off battery issue. This is also far different than normal clamshell mode. Normally, it is flat against the desk and closed. With this, it is elevated and air is on both sides as well as the vents along the bottom. I've been testing with my MacBook Pro and it does a great job. I've used my MBP in this mode for years with an external monitor. No screen damage, no battery issues, not a problem.

@aeonjoey3d
@aeonjoey3d 4 жыл бұрын
they are 'designed' to be used in clamshell mode, but I agree that heat can be an issue - we run two MBP 16"ers iin clamshell closed as Keyshot Network Rendering workers, for the first two weeks we had to open em up every few days to get them back on our VPN, and noticed weird pixel issues, it scared us so we started leaving them open a crack, and turning down the brightness to zero, solved the issue for us - but we also noticed they ran better with ventilation of the lid being open a smidge. So even if they are designed to run in clamshell mode, they definitely don't run as heat-efficiently. My point is, we wouldn't ever use these for that purpose after experiencing that, and no one else should either.

@@AppleInsider Hey Andrew, Just my 2c: My 2017 15" 2.9 i7 MBP is on an elevated stand with unobstructed airflow above and below it (it's an angular stand with two arms). With the lid closed, the system runs at least 10 degrees C warmer and peaks out at 75 degrees C at 95% CPU load. With the lid open, it runs cooler. Not sure if this is a symptom of my model, but sharing the observation in support of a constructive discussion regarding lid closed and lid open thermal characteristics..

AppleInsider I was told directly by an Apple Genius that they are not designed to be used in clamshell mode for extended periods, nor are they also designed to be used constantly plugged into mains power. “They are portable computers designed to be used as such not desktop replacements” i was told by another Apple Genius.

The only reason I want a macbook vertical stand is to save table space. In my case Mounting the laptop won’t give you more desk space because of the dimensions of the room and the desk takes up an entire wall itself. There has to be better options though.. you’d still need a converter from thunderbolt to hdmi to connect a monitor so I’m not sure the goal here.

compared to the henge models, it looks like a cheap knockoff. the plastic especially, they could've concealed the insert within the aluminum housing or something.

Unnecessary and crazy expensive . After the magic keyboard I think brydge is about to get bankrupt. They think they are way better than Logitech and try to charge similar price as apple . Shitty Brydge.

Most stuff is made there, good luck on finding something made in the EU or N.A., with the same build quality for less, or even the same amount. Oh and your clothes, yeh, let's not go there.

This is just a stand, Is not a dock. a dock alway has some other ports. Dislike
@sirena7116
@sirena7116 2 жыл бұрын
It is both. It has extensions for two of the four ports, which makes it a dock, just not a big one.

Not the MOST advanced, hardly out of the Stone Age, it’s just a freaking stand, no ports, no connectors, NOTHING
