time a run to the sawmill and back (like you did when testing the snowplow) that way you can do the same run when they increase the speed limits, and compare. That way your viewers can get a better sense of how things are affected by the removal of speed limits in the future (yes I did say this as a separate comment, I just thought kAN would be more likely to see it here so I posted it again here)

I think they are a bit away from increasing the speed limits. According to railroads online extended, a mod, all cars are limited to 22mph. The cooke 2-8-0's limit is 25mph. Every time I go above 22mph my cars will just pop off the rails, EVERY DARN TIME. I just run the class 70 which has a limit of 16mph and I never de-rail.

The locomotive sold in the US was ordered for the newly built Denver and Rio Grande Railroad in 1872, and was named "Mountaineer". It was the only Double Fairlie to operate on an American narrow gauge railway. This was a smaller locomotive with four-wheel bogies, giving it a 0-4-4-0T configuration. The railroad's experience with the locomotive was typical, and an indication of the fact that, though Fairlie had eliminated several problems of the conventional locomotive, he had introduced new ones of his own. At least one double Fairlie 0-6-6-0T Janus was built by the Mason Machine Works in Taunton, Massachusetts.

As an Australian the Ruby Basin is so cursed. It's a 2-8-0 version of a 2-6-2 Victorian Railways NA class (no. 1 and 2 of course built by Baldwin). Both the Two tone green and two tone red liveries are ones used by the Puffing Billy railway on the remaining locomotives. I love it but still, so cursed

single fairlies look like regular tank engines, but the drivers are on bogies, and are popularly known as mason bogies. the double fairlie is the one that are double ended. some double fairlies have 2 seperate boilers. edit: probably the most famous fairlie is in the ffestiniog railway's little wonder

About the double fairlie locomotive discussion: you and hyce are both right since both versions existed. Though, the single shared firebox version wasn't as successful because the draft between the two halves was uneven and was inefficient in comparison.

Since you came up with this crazy idea of one train running on different gauges, I thought I'd let you know about the real thing: There are actually trains that can drive on more than one gauge. The most prominent example of this is in Spain, where there is a historical broad gauge ("Iberian Gauge") of 1668mm for most conventional lines, but a standard gauge for the high speed network (so it would better connect to the French system). So in some areas, instead of rebuilding the old broad gauge lines to standard gauge, they simply built a special high speed train that could change gauge. The best part about it is that they could do it ON THE MOVE, driving through a special gauge changing facility at a slow speed. This technology was also employed in Switzerland, since they have a lot of narrow gauge lines. Although I think they had some technical issues with that recently and it's only in one spot. So the only place that I'm aware of that has trains which change gauge on a large scale is Spain!

How about having a small section of track with a 3-4% grade at the end of the yard lead at the coal mine, that could help change directions during switching and when you leave the engine to roll back down after using it to push it might end up a bit closer to the main yard so it's not as far to walk

I was watching some videos about some huge steam engines (stationary boiler that are like three stories tall and the like),. What they all had were some kind of method of setting the pistons so they will spin the fly wheel. One engine used a pony motor, and another had a wheel with sockets in it you would fit a pry bar to turn the wheel. That yould position the piston to not be at top dead center, I would assume. With a steam train, because you have two cylenders and are 90 degrees out of phase of each other, you don't need to stage the piston?

That looks almost the same as a 2-6-2 Victorian Railways NA class, even the livery is the same as the pre-1903. Today several are preserved on the Puffing Billy Railway. They were made by Baldwin the same as this loco which is why they're simular.

So steam engines usually have a steam dome om top of the boiler, an extension sticking out of the top of the boiler to allow the steam pickup to stay as far away from the splashing water as possible. Where does the steam dome go on a saddle tank engine? Also been driving the ten.... something lately. It has air brakes but the compressor consists of a valve and a brake lever... steam brakes?

Hey Kan, recently I went on a steam train ride, and I noticed that the engineer, the fireman, the conductor, and the rest of the crew were all talking to each other using sign language. I got to ask them if any were deaf or hard-of-hearing, they replied that they weren't but one of the earlier engineers was hard-of-hearing. So, my question is were people working with steam train using ASL or hand signals to talk to each other?
