The Most Beautiful Place to Sketch I've Ever Seen

We visit Neist Point - the most westerly point on Skye. The weather was a little bit blowy! But the whole experience was unmissable.
I sketched 3 incredible scenes to take back to my studio for future paintings.

What a gorgeous, rugged coast. I saw several spots that, to my mind, would make beautiful paintings. Thank you both for sharing these videos of your trip (it'll probably be the only way I'll ever see places like this). Looking forward to seeing your paintings from Skye. Thank you for such a beautiful trip! I'm sure your sketches will make beautiful paintings. I've been wondering if it might be possible for you to do a smaller painting from inside your van, looking out over a nice scene. It seems like you camp at some very pretty spots. I think I would be tempted to try to paint inside, but don't know if there is enough room in there . I suppose you would need to paint at a table instead of your easel. I'm sure you've already worked all that out. Anyway, whatever you do , your adventures are wonderful to watch. Thanks again.

The joy one does for one's art , rain and hail, buffering wind, sunshine and mist, and even a rainbow - but beautiful breathtaking views of Skye . I visited Portland Bill light house today , not far from where I live in Dorset - we couldn't be much further apart ! The weather here is almost the same as your having . Enjoy the rest of your trip - your having lovely memories that will last for ever !

I love the drawings. And folding the paper to extend the selection is a great idea. I think the wild wind and cold of being there, gives your drawings a response that is different from working from a photo. And it's always nice to get back to the warm car!

Wow wild weather and wild scenery, love the ride around the Isle of Skye. The colours too yellow of the gorse and the rainbow on the water all the shading on the rocks You will remember the weather when you paint your sketches which are very good Thank you James and Tanya

Wow!! What wild and wonderful scenery you and Tanya are experiencing! I’d say you got the full experience at Neist Point. 😂 That was a good idea to continue your sketch on another piece of paper. Do you ever finish up your sketches? They looked like they would be beautiful. Thanks for sharing this amazing video. Oh, and did you say “run Forrest run” to that sheep on the road? 😂

Hi Darci, We really did have an amazing visit there. I did have a bit of a trouble with a scale on that drawing and told in the paper was my only solution. My sketches just stay in the pad. I don’t finish them off more but I do enjoy looking back on them. That sheep really was running like Forrest Gump.😊 Best wishes, James

hahha yea the weather looks very dynamic. but its good, theres lots to remember :) Beautiful place James. Wasnt it tempting to do some small painting in there? Like 15cm x 10cm oils? Its not the same in the studio. But yep this wind must had been relentless. Warm tea in a van after a time at the cliffs, sounds great! Enjoy your trip. Beautiful place. I cant stop writing that..

Hi Michal, The weather was unbelievable! I didn’t have any oil paints with me It was the only solution to doing any outdoor painting. We were very happy to retreat back to our campervan. I’m looking forward to more of your videos.

It really wasn’t good weather for Watercolour painting if I had my oil paints, it might have been possible. Hope your painting is going well Best wishes, James
