You just can't beat the SPB259. Stunning dial.
The other Ginza model I mention is the SSA445. The special page for both 140th anniversary models is here:
www.seikowatch...
I misspoke on the 6R35. Power reserve is 70 hours.

I'm a big believer that if you buy a watch because you think it is beautiful that you should wear it and enjoy every minute. Life is way too short to see something you really like and would really like to wear but you don't want to because it may lessen the value if you ever sold it. It's just a watch, not something of historical importance, rare, and incredibly expensive. Why let someone else you don't even know to get all the enjoyment out of wearing it? I'm not overly materialistic and I don't buy myself things all the time, but when I do get something that I really like I enjoy whatever it is. If it's a watch I wear it, If it's a car I drive it, if it's a firearm I shoot it, etc... I hope when my time comes that I don't say to myself, "I wish I had done this or that."

Always a downer though when you mark a new watch, all part of its journey i suppose, a thing can be appreciated for its perfection and beauty and great pleasure can be had just looking or holding it, I do own and wear new watches but i am wary of marking them, im more comfortable with my bought used watches, i see where you are coming from though

@@georgeliquor2931 No need to be careless but stuff like micro scratches is impossible to avoid. Also the movement is a small machine and machines do eventually wear out. It's completely natural. That's why I think it's important to buy luxury goods in the right price range so that the owner doesn't become paranoid. Also, our tastes evolve and the future you might not even put the same value on your current watch. There will be another watch that you'll like or maybe a completely new priority in your life.

I can tell you really like this watch and it's unlikely that you'll sell it. Therefore it makes no sense to speculate about its value because if you just wanted to flip it you'd have done it already. A watch is not a golden bullion. It's functional jewelry that's meant to be worn. The value is in you enjoying it. Beautiful as it may be, it's not a piece of fine art or some unique artifact so there's no reason to be overly paranoid. After a couple of years there will be another watch that you'll like because the watches evolve and so do our tastes.

Good news regarding the power reserve - it is actually documented as 70 hours, and I checked my own Ginza to find that without any additional hand winding before I set it down it ran for 71.5 hours. I wear mine often and it won't be sold.

Just get the "Deep Lake" dark blue. It also has incredible dial details that often go unnoticed and is costs less than around 650 bucks. This is hands down my favorite Seiko model. Incredible value for the money and you end up with a watch that feels like you wearing a Grand Seiko.

@@lookatwrist it may be the answer to your problem. You sell your Ginza for 3x and get the Deep Lake. You benefit the fact that is is also more wearable in all sort of circumstances due to its more discrete/classy aesthetic compared to the Ginza.

Man I'm so annoyed I wasn't into watches when this came out. I'm not paying 2-3 times retail for it though. I hate the flippers who haven't even opened theirs, just bought them to make money. They're not even that limited, 3500 pieces so there's always some for sale.
@lookatwrist
@lookatwrist Жыл бұрын
I've been wearing mine, it's definitely a keeper. Your best bet for a cheap one is to wait for a beaten up model to sell second hand, and swap it into a different case for a cheaper model. Not simple. They should have made this unlimited.
@Harpreet06
@Harpreet06 Жыл бұрын
@@lookatwrist Yeah once I get it, I'm definitely keeping it. That's a good idea, although the market isn't that bad in the UK. The retail price for it here was £670 and the last 3 I saw sold on eBay for £850, £900 and £1050, all 3 were in very good condition too (a dealer was also sold 1 for £1000). I think those prices are fine other than over £1000 one, my issue is more with the flippers that have unused ones on Chrono24. Their listings have been up for like a year+ but they don't budge on price. Their prices are £1500-1600 so over 2x retail price but a new one just came up this week at £2120 (thats over $2500)!! Why would you even try to sell it for that price?

I searched literally everywhere for a new Ginza this summer (after 99% were long sold out) because I was late to discover the watch. This is my grail Seiko. I found what I'm almost positive was the last one available (new) with an AD in Illinois on a Friday in June, and was literally going to fly out to get it. I checked back 3 days later on Monday and they said someone came in and bought it over the weekend. i was sooooo close it haunts me. You can get them 2nd hand but I refuse to pay 2x retail for it.

Beautiful, but wear it! You'll be dead one day.... I bought a Seamaster 300 with an inheritance from my Mum, wear it almost every day. I pretty much wrecked it in 18months, (broke off the crown, scratched case up) - had it serviced/repaired (£485) & now it's as good as new and back where it belongs - on wrist. Wear it, enjoy it. Cheers 👍🏻

The only thing I dislike about the watch is its thickness at 13.1mm. I thought I wouldn't mind it at first. But after having and wearing the watch for a year, it is definitely something that should be considered before buying. A good watch to have in a collection, but definitely will look to replace it with something more comfortable as a daily driver.

I really think Seiko needs a need movement for their "upper-mid range" watches besides the 6r15/35. Its too thick a movement for the more dressy asthetics they are going with many of the presage/prospex lines and adds chunk that the watch would be better off without.

Beautiful dial but seriously, Seiko...how do you make a watch like that for that price and not even put a design on the crown? It's a detail that Seiko constantly leave off their watches and it just kills me. Boring crowns on nice watches. Small details make a difference.

I don't get people. Wear it if you love looking at it. I bought a Tudor Black Bay 58 for 3800 USD a couple of months back and I wear it at least 3-4 days per week. I'm also on a waiting list for a Rolex Submariner which has been my grail watch since forever, and one of the reasons I started my journey with a Seiko SKX. When I end up getting the Rolex, I'm gonna wear it for sure. Just wear it if you enjoy it, don't be a slave to it. If it gets some hairline scratches, who cares?
