Any way to know how big the dial is? 28.5mm? I want to gut it and put into a better case, but can't find the dial size specs anywhere.

My daily driver is the same model you're wearing in the video (Seiko SGG599). I got it as a present from my parents when I graduated from high school 19 years ago, and it has been the most reliable and accurate (+1,5s / month) timepiece I've ever had.

Yes 3 hz movement 6R35. I bought one in november for $997.50 CAD I was going to buy a seiko cocktail time for $375 but it was a bit big at 41mm for my liking. I was also looking at tissot prx for $875. For me this seiko ginza was able to work as a dress watch, sports watch and tool watch which made it something that I can use.

i got a green presage , really a tad too big but still ok as my wrist is about 6 and 3 quarter inch about 17cm.... i got this watch too.... probably the most expensive seiko i have ever purchased.

I'm in a similar situation as you right now. The Cocktail Time and PRX are too big for my wrist. How does the Seiko Ginza fit? And also where did you buy it in Canada?
@DaTryHardCamper
@DaTryHardCamper 2 жыл бұрын
@@NCHobbies I bought it in Edmonton (Sherwood park) kings fine jewlery. They only got one in. Stores might be getting in the other versions of this alpinst 1960s recreation, I saw some newer ones be mentioned. Context my wrists are around 7 inches. And I think this ginza is a great fit for my size, I dont actually have the watch right now but for the bit I did i would say this size is just right. the movement bugged out and I have been waiting for it to be fixed in Ontario and the holidays delayed it. I have a 7s26 seiko 5 that I believe is 37mm on a NATO strap, and that one fits a bit small. I am now looking for a true divers watch (even though the ginza has 200m wr which matches a lot of the budget to even entry level luxury divers) and I think a 39 to 41.5mm will fit my wrists well. The prx did fit well on my wrist but I thought for an extra 75 the ginza was worth it. the cocktail time was just a bit dressy and at 41 the size didnt match the intention I think. I also find that dressing up has really gone out of style for the younger generations (unless you are a company executive or have an amazing paying job where a cocktail time is well below ones budget and something like a reverso duo face or something of that caliber is more appropriate.) So imo no need to get a dressy style watch until one can afford the real luxury. As well the ginza prospex has some great work with brush and polished steel so it can 'work' in some dressy situations. What wist size do you have?

@@DaTryHardCamper Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I discovered this watch much too late. It's sold out at all my local retailers in BC. I am cursed with a 6 inch wrist so I have to go for smaller watches. The PRX was way too big for me because of the integrated bracelet. I agree that dress watches are not that popular nowadays anymore. I've been looking for a good and affordable sports watch (preferably a dive one) for over a year now, but unfortunately I don't have a lot of options due to my small wrist. I've came across a few but I just didn't like the style (eg. YEMA, NTH, Scurfa, Hamilton). I do admit I am particularly picky. I've been contemplating on the Orient Ray 2 for a long time now. I heard it fits small wrists well due to its small lug to lug measurement, but it's hard to tell without trying one on myself since as there are no Orient retailers in Canada. I also saw the new Seiko Prospex solar dive and chronograph watches which are really nice (and it's 38mm), but the $600 to $900 price tag on them is really holding me back.
@DaTryHardCamper
@DaTryHardCamper 2 жыл бұрын
@@NCHobbies I would recommend differently based on the current watches you own. Orient makes good value for the price and if uve found videos showing what the watch looks like on smaller wrists they are a good option Other option would be seiko and I've seen the seiko 5 divers, they are around 350 im pretty sure at hudsons bay and other watch stores. You could try one of those on, I found them slighty small so I think they are 38mm or 39. Zelos is a good micro brand I know of where divers are also smaller. They are a micro brand that I find offers amazing value. These are around 600 usd but some are 4hz moments from sellita. I am looking at the zelos mako v3 titanium. I would prefer a swiss diver as my collection is very small right now. Theres videos by teddy bulbasaur for watches and divers for smaller wrists. I personally would get a mechanical over quartz (solar in this case) unless you have a few watches already. I found many watchstores where I live in edmonton so I would think if u live in Vancouver or Victoria there should be many stores with brands to try on watches you find interesting. Otherwise for microbrands like the ones you mentioned you can just go off videos.

Yes, unfortunately so, esp. at the 9:00 mark, you can see some specs of dust on the dial itself. They aren't visible except under such a high magnification level, however.

I just don't know why they would leave out an emblem on the crown? It's only a small thing but it's just a really nice little detail especially on watches that aren't exactly cheap. Beautiful watch but would be even cooler with that.

It’s a pretty color but the brick layout looks too much like a spiderweb. I have a question though, If this is your personal watch why are you wearing white gloves? Don’t you plan on wearing it sometime in the future or is it only for display purposes?
@americanlegendswatches

The gloves just keep oil from my hands off the watch. I learned the hard way that was necessary to keep the photography looking good. Someone else commented the watch in one of my earlier videos looked liked a greased turkey by the end of it! 🙃

i got this watch about 1 month ago in singapore where i m based. the movement started off quite accurate at 6 secs fast per day but after some days it turned up around 10 secs fasters.... abit disappointed.... i thought it would remain consistently about 5 or 6 sec variance only each day. the Green tone of the dial will only appear under natural yellow sunlight when it is rather bright

that was around Jan 22???... almost everywhere not more, those common well known places for Seiko affordable. e.g. Chinatown or Bencoolen areas/shops. call Vincent watch also no more . so by previous purchase know a company who only have a few branches in West/ NW side of Singapore.they have 1 piece left so i go collect around Jurong or Bukit Batok side. should be "WATCH TREND" . their customers are MOSTLY non watch enthusiasts....u should know what this means. some hot items could be left around LONGer .

Very cool watch. But still, there's a room for improvement. Some dust between the glass and the dial. There can be Seiko logo engraved on the crown. And the watch would look way better and more expensive if there was a solid back of the case with some deep engraving, instead of the window.

I dunno, I was really into this watch (and the other Alpinist in the line) but over and over the fit-n-finish is just not up to par for the price. Rough edges, misaligned lume, dusty dial, etc…. Kind of fell out of love with it. You can get much better finishing elsewhere in this price range.
@electricjoshaloo
@electricjoshaloo 2 жыл бұрын
what would you consider as better watches in a similar price range? genuine question. Thanks.
@americanlegendswatches
@americanlegendswatches Жыл бұрын
In the 1 to 2 thousand price range, you'll get better finishing and built quality from the Junghans Max Bill watches, Tissot such as the PRX or Le Locle, the Formex Essence line is amazing, and definitely check out Oris, just to name a few. Of course you'll save money if you can pick up any of those used.

Surprisingly the Casio Oceanus would be a contender for better finish.

I wore an automatic for a few years but it had been my Dad’s (it’s now been stolen) for 30 years, never serviced since he bought it in Switzerland in 1965 or so. Omega Seamaster, had it cleaned, watchmaker said it would need extensive work. So I’ve soured on automatics and every watch I now own is quartz. The worst gains a second a week. The Swiss one has a 10-second-a-year PreciDrive movement. I guess I’m just traumatized by an inaccurate watch and won’t stand for one any more.
@americanlegendswatches
@americanlegendswatches 2 жыл бұрын
There's certainly nothing wrong with that, but these days the level of detail and finishing available on automatic watches far exceeds almost everything (with some notable exceptions, like some Cartiers) available in quartz. As for the accuracy problem, if you have multiple watches in your collection, and wear a different one each day or every few days, then losing or gaining some seconds over that day or two is barely noticeable; at least that's the way I handle it.

Personally I'd only pay retail for these or around that price, not worth more than that. I'm surprised at the 2nd hand market for these, very strange. 1 day the watch will go for $1300 and the next $1800. Both too much for me.
