I'd agree. Before I got into watches the date-just/day-date were the only Rolex watch designs I could recognize for the brand.

My grail watch is my 1st Rolex. I bought it January of this year to celebrate my 40th birthday. The Datejust, for me, has always been about its class. It’s timeless design. It’s history. Surprising you totally left out the history of this model. What this model represents within the watch community. That is such an important distinction. You shortchanged this model.

My dad has a Datejust II, which only comes with an Oyster bracelet… so for me, the fluted bezel is the only distinctive characteristic of Rolex watches

I think the jubilee is too flashy but the smooth bezel is too boring. I ended up getting a DJ41 with the two-tone oyster bracelet and a fluted bezel. I know most people hate that configuration but for me personally, I never have to dress formally for work (jeans + polo) and rarely ever have to dress fancy for anything. The jubilee would be way too dressy for casual events / work, so I think it's perfect for me. Best part is it's still dressy enough to wear if I do go full formal for anything. It's basically a highly-versatile watch. Jubilee + smooth bezel is the only "terrible" combo if you ask me. But at the end of the day, you wear what you like. Who cares what anyone else thinks?

​@@vinceliardi1662 This simply isn't true. I wouldn't even say the Datejust is the second most iconic watch. I don't even think it makes the top 3, and if it does, it just barely makes it. The most iconic model is the Submariner, second most iconic is the Daytona, the third most iconic, on a GOOD day, would be a tie between the Explorer and the Datejust. The GMT also fights for that position. The Datejust is incredibly one dimensional. You dress it up, and that's it. You're not wearing it outside of the office whereas all the other watches mentioned can be worn casually. The Explorer is ready for anything, the Submariner is ready for anything, the GMT is ready for anything. My uncle is a doctor and owns many Luxury watches across many brands. He owned a Datejust but sold it for his GMT back when you could buy one for $6,000 because he couldn't wear the Datejust outside of the clinic whereas the GMT is a watch he wears every day. Also, a personal problem I have with the Datejust is the price. Many people agree the domed bezel and oyster bracelet look way too unattractive and have no personality, the price starts at $8,000. Instead, you have to go for the jubilee bracelet and fluted bezel. The problem is that this costs $10,000, and you're in the Submariner territory now in terms of price...! Again, not a bad watch by any means, but these are reasons the Datejust sits at ADs unless you have the perfect configuration.

I must disagree with you about the Datejust 41 being just for dressy wear. I have this watch for 5 years now and have worn it either business casual or with a T-shirt and Polo shirt. That's what's so great about Rolex. They are versatile. Also, you define your personal style. So , it's whatever you are comfortable with. I have the Batman GMT Master ii on Jubilee too and with that bracelet, it makes the watch more elegant but it still can be worn for sporty occasions, in my opinion.

It really is an outstanding combo, understated coo/classyl. I actually think it’s the best white dial on steel look although I would get the oyster bracelet and have the shiny bit made brushed

People say it's boring, but it's actually the perfect watch in this configuration. That's why it's boring. Anything added or taken out (such as a dive or gmt bezel) would swing the aesthetic into subjective territory.

I have the same combo. And it's a great combo. Very versatile watch. And beautyful as well.

Wow I feel exactly the same way and have broken down the blingy elements like that too. I’ve decided on the 41 with white dial, smooth bezel and jubilee. The jubilee is all the bling I need for a daily wearer. The fluted bezel while absolutely beautiful becomes too much in addition to the jubilee IMO for a GADA kind of watch. If I went fluted I’d have to go oyster and the oyster really doesn’t do it for me on this watch.

Couldn’t agree more. Stunning combo! The fluted bezel can detract from the jubilee and also just makes the whole watch scream, unless that’s what you’re looking for.

@@Nathan.W1696 my wrist size is 18.5cm Anything bigger than 39mm is just too big for my taste. For me a lot depends on lug to lug size and dial color. For example my everyday watch is Day-date 36mm with silver dial. Even though the watch is 36mm it appears more like 37-38 on my wrist. Wore Datejust 41 for a week, it just doesn’t feel right.

Why should people craft things in wood? It's easier to just mass produce items from plastics that are cheaper and more durable. We can even 3D print at home now. There's no reason for people to acquire crafted wood products, it's just a reason to charge more for them...

Yes. I like the watches, but raised just this concern earlier in the comments. I have also asked similarly on other KZfaq Watch reviews of these Rolexes. But as before. No one seems to know if it's been fixed, other than the comment that you can send it back under warranty for a relubrication etc. That's all very well. But anecdotal evidence indicates the issue affects a number of 2019,20 and 2021 watches. So I just wanted to understand..... If I buy a 2022 or more likely 2023 model (with the wait lists). Is this fixed or will I be sending it back numerous times a year on?

Yes, the bezel is too wide. I think that’s because they made the bezel able to be swapped with the fluted so they only need one case for two references.

I think the clasp is two pieces and the joint bends slightly at that point to open the clasp. It's just not a fliplock like the sports watches.
