MSQ will definitely be hit or miss for most, but damn, the game is FUN. Can't wait for the raids.

I highly encourage you to talk to all relevant NPC's in between every MSQ step. And yes, I mean every relevant NPC. And yes, I mean between _every_ MSQ step. There are so many hidden gems in there, it'd be a shame to miss out on them

This is the most clean launch ever for me, only had 2 or 3 300+ person queue logins, everything else is under 60

Also : Dawntrail MSQ is very, veeeery generous in EXP, so you probably won't be level gated even if you focus on it

Beware that Dawntrail NG+ is not out yet, so be mindful if any of you feel like leveling up real quick and then redoing the story.

Lol im so glad you were able to do this. Dawntrail has been out for what a week now and I havent really touched the expansion, I unlocked the Aether stone and that was it. Got viper up to 90, working on picto (88) but im unlocking a lot of stuff I missed my previous expansions and feel like im in an MMO again instead of rushing to the end to be ready for the new raid and all that, its relaxing and has definitely made me realize what I've missed

People just want you to react to the crafter stories and beast tribe stories because some of those are hi-larious. Find someone that makes you what are called "levekits" and then you just get one of your crafting jobs up. Basically what you did with Warrior but for crafters.

So far theres not been much spoilers for dawntrail. The highest the que line was for me after early launch at 2 am was 2,800 it took me about 35 minutes to get past the que line. After seeing the improved graphics in the free fantasia quest I felt satisfied seeing the new graphics & doing copperbell mines I loved the new lighting & how the graphics looked compared to before 7.0

On that last topic. It's okay if some classes have a skill ceiling that's beyond the average player. But they need an accessible skill floor. A mediocre player should be able to pilot any class/job to passable results in entry level content. But in the same vein a very skilled player should be able to out perform a less skilled player in equal gear or you end up feeling like you have no progression with your class.

Enjoyed Dawntrail so much. Graphic upgrade so nice, the new zones and music are amazing. Viper class is fast and fun, and story is okay so far. I’ve heard there are lots of surprises in the story and I’ve seen some thumbnail spoilers unfortunately but it looks really cool. 🎉

to be a fly on the wall hearing Yoshi and Preach just talk about MMO without the language barrier. hate seeing the MMO go towards SUPER HC players that is NOT the way to have a thriving game.

Mogstation is just weird. I accidentally bought the collector's edition, I didn't even realize until I got the mount in the mail, at first I thought I should contact support because SE must've made a mistake sending it to me. Turns out I made the mistake when I bought the wrong version of the expansion xD But to be fair, I was confused by the pricing. Digital Collectors Edition of Dawntrail costs as much as base versions of WoW expansion, my framing was off. :D

Anytime a new set of jobs releases I always play one of them through the new MSQ. So far it's gone SCH, NIN, AST, RDM, DNC, and SGE. For DT I picked Picto. I thought it would be fun, but it's definitely surpassed my expectations! There's so much freedom and flexibility, it feels like they baked the theme of 'creativity' into the gameplay. It's super cool

I'm the same way with Viper and Picto, I thought I would like Viper more because I love Ninja. Once I got them both to 90 (Viper and Picto), I started the MSQ on Viper, got it to the first trial and was like "ehhhhhhhhh not for me" I didn't switch to Picto, I actually went back to the class I had played for the entire game up until that point which was SMN. I'm now level 100 in SMN, in the last story area, and interested to see how Solar Bahamut is going to feel

Can't wait to see my femroe sister Floor Inspector go and inspect all those floors again. Endwalker launch was bad partially because SE still didn't know how big FF14 was, but also partially because the ghost of 1.0 legacy code made logging into the game a god damned chore for no good reason. Props to that madlad on reddit who did the legwork to figure out what the hell was happening, and props to Yoshi P. and the team for seeing it and addressing it in a timely manner. But God was it maddening. edit: hol' up....100 on VPR without doing any MSQ?! Preach you absolute unit. I wish I had the patience. As for the class balance question....I get wanting to appeal to the more casual crowd, but as someone who's been with this game through thick and thin since the beginning, doesn't my opinion count? I'm tired of seeing jobs get reduced to their lowest common denominator just so that the corpos can see the good number go even more up. Previously interesting kits have been dumbed down to such boring, mindless rotations that it defies explanation. Of course you want new blood to continue to come into the game, but the desires of the loyal customer base should also be considered. More than that, as I push into my middle age as a gamer I freely acknowledge that I am not as skilled or as fast as I used to be. I can still keep up in savage, I can still tank or heal or dps just fine enough to clear, but I won't be doing ultimate anytime soon, even if I did have the time. I'm fine with some jobs being the higher skill expression jobs that not everyone will gel with, even if it means I'll never be "great" at playing those jobs simply because I'm not physically as fast/accurate as I once was.

Regarding class conplexity, thoughts on how Tarisland pretty basic classes but put their difficulty in the high end raid mechanics?

imo, Dawntrail's MSQ rivals Shadowbringers for me so far- it does a much better job at not being formulaic and building a bunch of characters from nothing to ones to care about. I've probably shed tears more than I did for Endwalker.

Msq will be fine for Mike, and I'm ready and looking forward to seeing it. Crafting lol. I love ffxiv crafting because they're full jobs on their own, but there's no way he was really going to get into it. There's just no time!

Dungeons + Trials 11/10 MSQ 7/10 (personal opinion) New Jobs 8/10 (love picto, dont like viper that much, personal opinion again) Job reworks 8/10 (some feel good, some didnt change enough for me)

I think that the story itself is fine, the storytelling and the MSQ quest structure sabotages it a bit.

Will you be doing the Job Stories through NG+?, some of them are pretty outstanding

The least spoilery way I can describe the MSQ: First 50%: ARR next 25%: ShB Final 25%: EW Give or take some %...I haven't fine-tuned this perspective. I'll leave the interpretation of what this means to you.

The answer to the whole “where do we draw the line on too hard vs too easy” debate is pretty straightforward, at least content wise (less so for classes/jobs). Granular difficulty. I’d played FFXIV for 5 years before I tried wow and wow absolutely sucked me in. Not just because combat was fun but because if I felt like turning my brain off I could do LFR. If I felt like going capital G Gamer and no-lifeing I could do mythic. If I felt like having a fairly easy but engaging time I could do normal. If I had a few hours to kill and wanted to be a little tryhard I could do heroic. All this applies even more to M+. If FFXIV had another dungeon difficulty (harder than normal/expert, easier than criterion with matching rewards) and another raid difficulty (harder than normal, easier than savage) and maybe harder 24 mans I think that would largely solve, or at least address, the problem.

Considering how Mike HATED Lyse in base Stormblood, I'm excited to see him be irritated by Wuk Lmao: the msq, and fall of sanity for the first five levels of the msq.

I’m really curious about his impression on the MSQ because it draagggggggggs until the “first arc is done” the side quests and role quests are more interesting then the actual story at least the first half

I barely managed to get through Dawntrail's MSQ on my own, I don't think I can manage to watch anyone else slog through that.

First expansion I haven't pre-ordered, and based on everything I've heard about it-from characters and MSQ to visuals and job changes-I'm partial to not buying it at all. Perhaps Preach will change that.

Discussing the problem a bit with almost no spoiler. The writing quality is atrocious, the plot points and objectives on the first half are some of the worst I've seen in my life, they are ridiculous, they're all a giant drag. They also added a character, that's obviously the protagonist and gets 95% screen time, that also happens to be very simple, a one trick pony. Whoever likes said character is having a blast, whoever hates said character is having a very miserable time. I particularly hate it all because the characters that we do love (almost every single scion) might as well not be there, they are very muted and don't really do anything. The bosses and dungeons are awesome though, super good.
