I have two - four 10 to 25 gallon totes that I use specifically #1 and/or #2 insulated copper wires. I usually take those off once a year, along with the hoard of aluminum cans and other copper, aluminum, and nonferrous that I will/might have.

Just wanted to say your channel is great; thanks for the easy to understand content for beginners. I live in a condo complex and often have access to appliance cords and also cans. Started saving some just to melt for fun.

All those plugs ends are brass. With a vice and pliers I pull all that brass out it adds up. My town does clean up days 2 times a year. Last year I collected 178 pounds of cord and got a dollar a pound. The plug ends added up to about 15 to 20 pounds of clean brass.

🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦I recently took in 2 large wire bags, thinking it would be #2 @ $0.80/lb; however, scale guy just opened up bags, because it was almost closing time, & said "I just see Cat 5". I thought whatever until I got paid only $0.35/lb & wished I would have taken back the bags for sorting. Now, I strip just outside of Cat 5, & apparently, that raises grade to #2, & my scrap yard won't care if there's a tiny amount of Cat 5 in my #2 wire, but maybe that's because they know I generally do a good job keeping things within a grade, & definitely not stolen.

So i have a question about really thin wire, i have a bunch of 18 and 22 gauge wires that i get from work basically endlessly and i have been sorting them separately but don’t know if it’s worth it and was thinking about dumping all of it into a trash can to get more space. I have a separate bucket for pieces that have electrical tape on them as well that I believe they are worth less because of the tape. If you can explain that stuff either in a comment or a video that would help me and a few low voltage electric contractors

with THHN especially if you have lots of it, we'd recommend stripping it all. Assuming none of it is tin coated, its all Bare bright inside those wires, so you could have a really nice score if you strip all of those wires and bring them in for Bare bright prices

In my opinion You have to realize that stripping wire it's like a 5 phase process let's use a stove for an example Phase one remove wire harness and other wires from stove Phase 2 remove all plugs and connectors from wires also tape and bonded clip that holds clumps of wire together Phase 3 run all wire through stripping machine Phase 4 pull all wire out of plastic and cloth jackets separate as one or two copper Phase 5 and the best part of it all is going to the scrap yard and collecting your money Just like people have said steal is the meal in my opinion copper is Poor Man's gold Thank you Tom for all your helpful hints also I'd like to see you do something on building your own homemade scrapping equipment I have a few things that might be interesting to scrappers🤠

One thing that that I have made is a spinning table which is made out of a three by three foot piece of plywood and a washer machines drum for example I can put a microwave on and start taking it apart instead of trying to pick the microwave and spin it around to take other screws out I've just turned the table it worked well on puts lawn mowers bicycles you can even put a chair with it so you can set comfortably everything I make is out of scrap that I've gotten very little to no money was spent on making it What I have to do now is learn how to weld because I have a bunch of other projects I want build🤠

Do the thin coloured wires have to be in a separate bin, or can you keep your no.2 appliance wire and those thin coloured wires together? Does this affect the payout?
@iScrapApp
@iScrapApp 4 ай бұрын
Most likely will be cheaper. All depends on the gauge of the wire inside

What’s the difference between THHN and “rainbow wire” or are they the same thing? Also does it matter if the copper is solid or strands?
@iScrapApp
@iScrapApp Жыл бұрын
Not sure we have heard the phrase rainbow wire. THHN is generally a 10-14 gauge wire.

I have a ton of wire and it’s all brand new . And I don’t know if I should seperate it or how . And is all roofing copper light copper even if it’s brand new ?
@iScrapApp
@iScrapApp 2 ай бұрын
If you have spooled brand new wire, we'd recommend trying to sell to a electrician, DIY'er or local handyman before scrapping. You'll make way more that way. If you truly can't offload it, then scrap. If its over 12 gauge it may be worth stripping, depending on how much you have.
@JoeRogansForehead

@@iScrapApp it’s not spooled but it’s the extra from rewiring the building . It’s 12 gauge

.45 cents a pound for steel BX. 2.45 a pound for thhn. Why wouldn’t break it apart . All you have to do is twist the metal parts and the wire pulls right out

I don't get it. Stripped copper always pays more. 16ga or thicker is bare bright. Some say 14ga. Let me guess, you don't recommend break8ng down motors either

We only strip wires the size of a pinky or larger, do not forget that scrap yards have a lot going on and different ways to sell opposed to day-to-day scrappers.

Are u saying don't strip Beacause you don't want us to make money.cuz dirty copper is worth less. bare is worth more. Now its like 5.16 a lb in canada.ont anyway. if too thin, yes don't bother. But bare is DEF WORTH MORE THAN coated copper. If u have the time, strip it. Ut all ADDS UP EVENTUALLY!😊😊😊😊

We are just saying be smart with your time and energy. Yes in theory, if its all bare its worth more and will add up, but depending on volume and the amount of time you have in a day it may not be worth it to the individual.

Am I the only one that got the impression that stripping any wire is not encouraged. What is the point of wire strippers if scrapyards don’t encourage it nor pay more for it? Dumb
@iScrapApp
@iScrapApp 2 ай бұрын
Depending on prices of copper at the current time, how much copper you have, how difficult it may be to remove insulation, and a few other factors. Only you can decide the if the time and hassle is worth it for you
