At a different blind draw I knew we didn’t need to point as much on a not so great team but my teammate smacked two triples to put us up almost 200 and both guys threw their hands up lol Btw I have really started disliking paint on darts lately and I couldn’t honestly figure out why. Watched one of your paint removal vids and I think you nailed it that paint makes some darts look cheap. Just bought some 100% acetone nail polish remover lol

@@Jc_cerebral I've been playing with those 95% tungsten Unicorn darts I reviewed recently. Awesome darts. I actually used them in this video. They have blue paint so it's time for them to get an acetone bath. I was thinking about doing that today lol.

@@Jc_cerebral oh man.. I agree about the paint. I freakin' hate it. I didn't mind the colored pixels on Target's pixel lines (though a bit toooooo grippy for my taste) but painted rings. et. al., just look like crap. I acetone bathe every painted dart. A nice patina from use is gorgeous though.

THIS! It all boils down to playing well. As i was saying on another comment, I could play against a 2mpr player and it doesn't matter what I throw at. I could start on the 15's and still win. They could also have all the strategy in the world and still not beat me because I'm going to be playing well above a 2mpr average.

That sounds good in theory but in a real game scenario it's much different. Let's say the opponent opens up with 4 20's. You have no choice but to go 19's and then the game goes back and forth until someone misses. It's as simple as that. Also, the 20's don't hold some mythical magical powers that allows players to score on them at will. A 2mpr player will hit them at a 2mpr rate. It's not like they'll be able to perform like Phil Taylor on the 20's but struggle on the rest of the board. Darts doesn't work like that at all.

Thanks! If an opponent opened up with 2 20's I'd be tempted to go 19's. But if a person goes 20's and hits at least 3 of them, then that's not too bad either.

Question for you... it's easy to tell someone to stay 4 marks ahead but how is that possible in real life? What if you have someone simply playing better than you? This is the part of cricket debate I've never understood to be honest. I mean, it sounds good to say that but again, it's ONLY possible if you're playing better than the opponent. So that's not a strategy at all. I do think that not chasing is a strategy. I also think if you need 3 singles to win a leg of cricket it's a strategy to aim for the fat part of the single instead of the triple. But other than that there isn't anything strategic you can do to win a leg of cricket. There's no magic formula you can do to overcome someone throwing better than you.

@@WorldwideDarts All of which is true. If you are playing someone better than you, you try to make every dart count. Three fat in some levels is a good throw. Which is what I would say to a beginner. I also say 2 to close 1 to point... Its all situational darts. The biggest thing is you need to know when to just close and move on and when you may need to score points. I loved the explanation you gave on not chasing. It made perfect sense to me, and I have never known a way to explain this.

To me the opponent to me generally dictates what style I play and with what level of aggression I play as well. I generally will not point if I can help it when playing someone I feel I've got an advantage over. The better my opponent the more strategic I become.

Thank you for the comment but I have to say that I definitely disagree with most of what you said here. I'm simply not buying that someone can be a superhero on one number but not so great at other numbers. Darts doesn't work like that. It's also impossible to predict how well an opponent may or may not throw. At the end of the day it all comes down to how many marks per round on average someone can throw. If I have a leg of cricket where I throw 4.2mpr then there is absolutely no way I can lose to someone throwing 3mpr. It doesn't matter what I throw at or what order I hit the 7 cricket segments. The best players in the USA average about 4 marks per round in cricket so there's simply no way this guy is blasting 7 marks on the 19's with any sort of consistency yet unable to hit other segments. I'm sorry but I'm not buying that story at all. In the real world cricket is just about 100% predictable and there's not much thinking involved at all. Don't get me wrong, it's a super fun game but it's the most simple dart game there is. I actually do this. Let's say I go first and close 20 with or without points. Then the opponent goes 19's and closes them out. I will then go 18's because I figure the chances are decent I will hit a triple. I don't want to get caught wasting marks on the 19's by hitting a triple on the 2nd or 3rd dart and have them not count. If that makes sense?

Probably stay put on the 20's for points. Although it honestly doesn't matter all that much. A 5 mark round is a 5 mark round no matter what I hit.

Sometimes when the opponent opens up with 2 20's I will go 19's to follow. If someone throws at 20's it can be risky. Especially for the average dart player. Let's be honest here, an average player is only going to average somewhere around 2MPR. So if they chase and only hit 2 20's then they can get in trouble quick and find themselves behind.

I get bored really fast with Cricket, when I just have one number to aim at, sometimes hit a 5 mark, then nothing.... I actually like it when there are more than 2 playing.... depends on how I'm 'shooting' that day. I almost always go for points with at least one dart per round. In a perfect round I'd go for T20 T20 T18 in that situation. Moving from 20's to 18's is natural. If not perfect, I'd at least close 20's so my opponent would not be able to run up points without another triple. If I think my opponent is having trouble on the 20's, I may go directly for T19 T19 T17 - again natural move from 19 to 17. Players generally shoot some numbers more consistently than others on any given day. Those 'off' numbers are the ones I try to get them stuck on having to score. No strategy always works with every opponent, so there's no reason to over think it. In 501 you play the board to zero. In cricket you play both board and opponent's weakness at the moment (which can and does change over the course of a match).

@@dacritter8397 Okay, a couple things... I've noticed that when people talk/debate cricket they do so when mentioning all sorts of triples. Look at what you did here. You mentioned two 9 mark rounds. An average player might average 2 marks per round. The best American players average 4 marks per round. I just find it odd that in most debates I see nothing but triples mentioned. Lot's of 9, 7 and 5 marks being thrown in debate but in a real game it's totally different. Also, it's impossible to know what an opponent is going to throw next. None of us can predict that or see into the future. So guessing what they may or may not shoot at is not a strategy. It's not even realistic in a real match but I always see American players talking about the opponents weaknesses. Baffling. Let's admit, other than not chasing there really isn't any strategy at all in cricket. It's mind numbingly easy to play. And that's not a knock on the game, I do enjoy it. But when I see people talking about all this "strategy" I have a laugh to be honest. A player that is averaging 3mpr can do absolutely nothing about a player averaging 4mpr. They're just going to lose. There is no magic strategy they can pull out of the hat to make them win. The only real strategy is to shoot better than the opponent. Cricket is a GREAT game to talk about because of a few different scenarios that can happen. Do I close or do I point. Endless discussion of what ifs. But if you watch every single cricket match on KZfaq it's 100% predictable at how the match unfolds.

A lot of myths in what you posted here. 20's aren't some magical number that everyone can hit at will. Look at it this way... it's not like someone is going to be able to hit 5mpr on the 20's but then struggle on other segments. Darts doesn't work like that at all. Chasing on 20's is a horrendous idea for the points stated in this video. You might be able to get away with it in your local league but against the better players you're going to get absolutely smoked playing that way. That's why you NEVER see better players chasing.

Here's the thing though... If you're playing someone shooting a 3mpr average then the only possible way to stay ahead of them is to throw better. You can't be 3 marks ahead if you're shooting a 2.2mpr average. I honestly think cricket makes for good debate because of the 'what if" scenarios but in real life it's impossible to rack up points or do anything against a player that is simply playing better than you. The opposite also rings true. Imagine me playing a 2mpr player. It wouldn't matter if I opened up on bulls or 15's. I'm still going to win because I'll be playing better than a 2mpr average. It's really a simple game without much strategy in real life.

@@WorldwideDarts Well, in short format tournaments (where you play best of 3, which is the majority of steel and soft tip tournaments, at least in the very early rounds), a 2.0 mpr person can always shoot a 4 or better in just one or two games (and you can shoot worse than your 3.0 mpr). Most of the soft tip tournaments are based on rating, so you're almost always playing someone who is rated near what you are. If you watch any good soft tip or steel tip player (Baggish, Gates, Lauby, Jeff Smith), they all point and point a lot. You will never lose with points!

@@ryanw5569 100% agree. Pointing is always a good thing for sure. I keep an eye out on the Dart Connect stats from American tourney's and the stats are all over the place. Names I've never heard of throwing a 4mpr in a best of 3 (2 legs) and taking out a big name but then in the next round they average 2.3mpr and get crushed. With short formats everything is so totally random. An average player can get hot and do some damage. Especially when they have to throw at the bullseye every leg to see who goes first. Imagine a player getting hot and averaging 4+mpr with the start. Almost impossible to overcome that unless you're throwing lights out.

In that case I would close the 20's

As an Englishman who only discovered proper cricket last month I think it’s great 😂 I learned a different version as a kid involving men batting, bowlers bowling at bull and trying to knock men out whilst they scored runs. Y’know…..like actual cricket
