I’ve worn a human hair system for over 25 years. No one ever believed the hair was not my own, it was that good. That being said, it had its own problems. It was painful to attach and difficult for me to wash and style. Due to current pandemic, I was unable to have my hair “tightened” at my salon. This brought the idea of wearing a synthetic wig to my immediate attention. The freedom and variety of wearing a synthetic wig is oh so attractive. I have watched many of your videos. All are rich with much needed information and the humor needed to deal with hair loss. I thank you both so very much. You’ve helped open a whole new world to me and I love it! I can’t wait to travel to Dallas and schedule a Tuesday appointment!

I really needed to see this video today! It was fate! I have been wearing synthetic wigs for about 11 months and the last few days have been really struggling. I was wondering today if a human hair wig would solve some of my issues, but after posting a video about my struggles, getting advice from some wonderful wig sisters in the comments and now this video I know that this too shall pass and synthetic wigs are the right choice for me. Thank you for ALL your videos! I wish I lived near your boutique! Hugs to you both!

I started wearing wigs about 10 years ago when I got tired of coloring my greying hair. The first few wigs didn't work for me, but then I learned what manufacturers and what styles, and what colors suited me. I love my synthetic wigs. They make me look like I have stepped out from a hair salon every morning. They pay for themselves in time and money saved. I recommend velcro wig grips.

I use a wig grip and lately it and my wig will slip. What is the best wig grip to buy?
@MimisWigChicks4 жыл бұрын
We only use the Milano Wigrip. They will start slipping if they are stretched. It is best to never stretch the fiber. I usually can keep the same one for several months.

How long does a wig typically last if you wear it a couple of times a week? And with that same scenario, how often would you have to wash it?
@MimisWigChicks4 жыл бұрын
Typically we suggest washing every couple of weeks or after around 14 wears. If you wear it once a week then you could go for a few months. As for how long it will last depends on the quality of the hair fiber, type of fiber and length of the wig. Short can last as long as 8 months to a year for regular fiber and long as little as 3 months.

I need to wear a wig grip because my scalp is getting realllly irritated from the cap of my wig (I'm bald from alopecia). Can y'all please explain to me why wig grips will never stay on my head? I swear I'm putting the grip on as directed, but no matter how tight I have it, it literally slides right off my head as soon as I go to put my wig on. My wig stays on the grip like it's supposed to, but the grip itself slides off, so I always wear my wigs without it. My scalp is really angry... and the HOT HOT summer isn't helping at all. I'm really frustrated..any suggestions? Thank you!
@MimisWigChicks4 жыл бұрын
Feel free to call and speak with us. As you know, everyone’s head is unique. Some people have a more prominent occipital bone than others. A less prominent occipital bone makes it more difficult for the Wigrip to work. Additionally, you do not want to put the Wigrip on too snuggly. If it is too tight it will slip and over stretching it separates the nap of the fabric and it loses it’s ability to work. I like to wear mine snuggly because it feels more secure but it does stretch them and I have to buy them more often. I hope that helps and I wish you the best.
@GC-ms4dj4 жыл бұрын
katfish423 when I wore a wig grip I had the same issue, so I had to glue it in the back and let it dry for a few minutes before putting the wig on. It worked well, but I had glue on the back of my head that had to be wiped off before bed so my head wouldn’t stick to my pillow. :). I switched to using a strip of toupe/wig tape on the nape. It holds 3-4 times then I remove it and put a new one on. It works so well and I am extremely happy with it. The only issue is that you cannot stick onto your hair because it hurts to pull off hair. Because I have to wear a wig, I simply have my husband shave my neckline in back a little higher than normal. Anyway, just an idea. I hope it helps.

@MimisWigChicks4 жыл бұрын
It is so personal, the best way to start wearing wigs is to just TRY! You will quickly learn your favorites and start to develop a "must have" list of features, colors and styles! As for working out, we always suggest wearing your own hair or a cap as wearing a wig can really get super hot, not to mention it means that you have to wash it more often which leads to wearing it out faster. Best of luck!

If you've been using downy on your wig and have that build up, is there anything you can suggest to remove it and get your wig back into better condition?
@MimisWigChicks4 жыл бұрын
Hi Catrina- the best thing we do to eliminate build up of fabric softener, hair shampoo or hairspray is Windex! I know, sounds weird but it does a great job breaking down ‘gunk’ without damaging the hair fiber. Just spray liberally and wait about 10-15 minutes and then proceed as normal with your synthetic wig shampoo. Sometimes, depending on the build up you will notice it still looks gummy while it is wet or has little white specks when it dries. Just do the whole thing over again. Wish you well!
