I think if you use a stonecutter table, you can make a single stair, meaning you could turn those 6 pieces of stone into 6 stairs instead of only 4

Tbh it's always struck me as odd that you use cobblestone to make a Stone pick. You should have to smelt the cobble into stone to make the pick.
