What the tourists may not know or just don’t realize: if someone is pulled into the sea, there is no rescue team to get him out…. No swimmers in these seas means there is no reason to have watchtowers… no one will be there just in time before the water or the temperature will end your life…

I keep seeing people ask why this beach is dangerous. I'm assuming that this beach is reynisfjara in iceland. This beach is known to have sneaker waves. Sneaker waves are rouge waves that literally seem to "sneak" up on people. They can easily hit far into the beach and pull people out, so just standing near the water can be dangerous. Couple this with the fact that this is iceland, with freezing, rough, icy waters. Plus, notice how everyone is wearing full clothing and heavy jackets? Think about how heavy that would be on someone in the water. You could literally just be standing on the beach and get hit with with a sneaker wave and be sucked out if you are unlucky enough, which is why it is so dangerous. There are signs around this beach warning people of the danger. While it is not super common, people do die on this beach so please listen to the warning signs and always keep an eye on the ocean if you are going onto the beach. The ocean is cruel and cares little on who it takes.

There are actually loads of signs. Many tourists, however, ignore them. It's a running joke among guides that the nickname for this beach is "Chinese takeaway". That's because Chinese tourists in particular, are notorious for ignoring the signs and going into or close to the water for IG photos.

Oh, you will say, “Many people have drowned there.” What about all those who have died in automobile accidents on the road? Also don’t underestimate some of these places in the tropics (I call it in paradise) such as blowholes just as one example.

The difference is that a hero dies/survives while doing something heroic .. an idiot dies while doing something idiotic .. look at these images and judge for yourself.. if your brain is even capable of doing something like that. Without knowing them I would bet quite a lot that these guys would completely fail when it's actually about being a hero and standing up for others when shit goes down .. and you know what .. I am fairly certain you do too ;). Heroic people are actually very rare .. and on this beach are way to many people for them to be all heroes. But you know what this world is full of ? ... Many people thinking there are all heros and big shots...and when it's about to get rough their gone. You talk to much for knowing so little .. which is yet another definition of stupidity. If you would actually have any knowledge about this corner of the earth you would know, that running around with scissors would actually be saver. But of course your ego will always protect you from this realization .. Btw .. since you obviously know so much about being a hero and what a hero does/ is .. tell me ... Ok, so apparently this is the "most dangerous" beach in Iceland, and not only do they go on it, they let their kids run around and get super close, close enough even that the water runs over their feet in some instances. If a sneaker came up with them all that close, then they would have most likely been swept out and died relatively quickly, considering how fridged and rough the water is. So, so dumb and reckless... the ocean is no joke.

As if these waves look different from any other waves they've ever seen. And when they leave here, they'll never look at those photos or videos ever again. And if we're really lucky, one or more of them will be swept out into the freezing ocean and we won't see them again, either.

I wasn't allowed over my knees at a couple of spots, ever, no matter how calm it looked - the rips are just that lethal. Go down, and that might be your last swim. Furthermore, a lot of west coast beaches have logs being tossed in the surf. Can't swim if you're knocked unconscious.

Why do people seeing how rough the water is still walk right up to waves as if daring the wave to hit them. Its weird to me. I lived near Lake Erie and stayed away from the shore when the waves were big. My brother when he was a kid and not a short kid had a wave completely cover him while standing on the shore. If a Great Lake can do that certainly the ocean can.

I think they are quite unpredictable and can drag away your feet when you don‘t expect it (just saw a video from a beach in france where that happened to an elder couple, don‘t know whether they survived, but they didn‘t manage to escape the water in that video). What makes it worse in this case is that the beach doesn‘t actually consist of fine sand, but of tiny black pebbles. So the waves transport all those stones and if you get hit by a wave, you‘re likely to also get hit by tons of stones.

Bcz of the waves... They are so strong and as you can see a huge wave can reach the beach at any time unexpectedly and carry whatever there are. There's a specific name for this kind of waves too I'm not aware of it.

Can anyone tell why this wave is dangerous?
@cbpd89
@cbpd89 3 жыл бұрын
The big waves come in unexpectedly further than previous waves, there is a strong under current, and the shelf drops off very steeply. People get knocked down, then dragged out to sea, and will likely freeze to death in minutes, long before they can get pulled from the water.

@@cbpd89 When you say the shelf drops swiftly, do you mean the continental shelf itself has a steep slope or are you talking about the continental slope?

I once went to a beach with my friends when I was 17 (relatively safe beach) but I went dangerously deep without knowing the possible consequences. While in water, someone stole our bag (the friend who was watching the bags slacked on the job). I luckily only lost my glasses. When my mom found out about the entire incident, she didn't buy me glasses for an entire year as a reminder for my stupidity, and of course no beach until I finished college. Indian parents are strict 😅

Ma’m your recall on your children doesn’t seem to be that good for them to be off leash :( - also looks like they didn’t properly explain to their child the important reasons on why you cannot go closer.... ugh

Because of the waves and ice cold waters? You can easily loose your footing and be dragged out into the sea where you will die within a few minutes of hypothermia.

Why is this beach dangerous?
@skullflower354
@skullflower354 3 жыл бұрын
Because of sneaker waves. People get injured here every year because they ignore the warning signs and go to close to the water. Some people have died in the past. If you get pulled out into the sea you're dead.

Tourists get too close and get swept away. You wont last long in freezing waters like that If you were lucky enough to remove your clothes and boots, the currents and temperatures would still probably get you before you could be rescued
