It's so good to me how this show manages it's tone. It is irreverent and crass and incredibly violent with some real pathos built in. The show isn't afraid to explore different sides of characters than you've seen, it's not afraid to do things that would piss off fans, and it's also not afraid to have genuine emotion.

That’s the idea; the same with Quagmire later trying to shut Brian down by “putting him in his place” as a dog. It’s supposed to be a power move and not pleasant and not OK either and hopefully we’re made to SEE how it is actually unpleasant and not OK, from the way it plays out. It is a cartoon illustration of “gatekeeping” or “security” forces acting putatively on behalf of a “culture” trying to keep other people out of it, or else belittle them. This is actually a realistic cultural point they make here.

These jokes are mildly offensive at most but I can understand why people would be angry. Also Family Guy has made WAY worse jokes that it should NOT have gotten away with.

I can't tbh... it's a joke I don't understand why people would get offended at this. It's very clear that it's all meant to be a joke and they're usually actually getting attention for bad topics this way. South park does it all the time where they make an episode about a heavy topic that nobody wants to talk about.

Unless he secretly agrees with this shit, or it was perpetrated by other writers of whom he has no control; I suspect that this might be meta-humor; in other words, while people who are already incorrigibly or unconsciously racist or sexist may automatically laugh at some of these jokes in the simplest way possible, like puppets whose string is yanked (“haha here’s your sexist joke! Dance monkey dance!”), I think there might be a larger point to be made here, not just that sexism is bad, or just to show how horrible it looks through comic exaggeration (although that is certainly employed here), but there are a few different layers here at play, such as Peter actually loving his wife (we KNOW he loves Lois) but then still holding old school sexist beliefs about women being the dishwasher etc. However to me, this particular montage struck me as being exceptionally tonedeaf not so much to the target audience (who is supposed to be EVERYBODY), but mainly to the CHARACTER of Peter, who at least is supposed to be a family man with some integrity (a warped integrity to be sure; but still- integrity). Knowing and seeing everything else I’ve known and seen about Peter in other episodes, the whole super-sexist thing, especially the way he castigstes Chris’ behavior with this girlfriend, seems to come out of left field for me. I watched it and was like: “is this really the same Peter?” Because while he’s certainly not some women’s lib or even soyboy character; at the same time I was not otherwise led to believe his sexism ran much deeper than the old school Man of the House stereotype. Also, I thought the character of Peter was supposed to be a bit smarter than this; not brilliant, but at least smarter than Homer Simpson. So for him to give Chris this howlingly stupid advice seems out of character. Sure he could lecture about spotting the warning signs of a woman wanting to control or dominate Chris in the relationship, and admonish him to steer clear of those women, the same way that he should himself not be controlling or dominating his girlfriend. But I wouldn’t expect anything half as sophisticated as this on Family Guy and certainly not from a character like Peter. From his other remarks I knew Peter is sexist, but to this virulent degree, seems frankly out of character for the man.
