Have seen an Ef3 forming right in back of a store I, and my sob had just left. The day started out beautiful, sunny, and hot. I needed to run some errands, and when I came out there in the back of the store, was an EF3. It wasn't as big as the Ef4's,or EF5's,it was somewhere in the middle. I've seen my share of those monsters, and hope never to see another. I don;'t live where there are many, but one Sunday Morning,once again it started out sunny, and warm. I was dressed, and waiting for my son to finish dressing, and we were going to go to church. The T.V. was on and they broke in for a tornado warning. The sky turned black,and I said we aren't going to church, tornado warning for ALLof New England!

Why live in these areas??

@@Newworld1492 Nearly my entire family lives in Alabama. But actually, virtually every state has the possibility of a tornado touching down. I would have to move to a Democrat ran state to lessin my chances of tornadoes. You have hurricanes at the coast,earthquakes out west and severe winters in Northern states.

Honestly El Reno should be classified as EF5.

Parkersburg Iowa 2008 was an ef5. I'm pretty sure El Reno is too.

In the Jarrell footage a lamb or goat is seen trying to run from that huge tornado but cant get away because it is fenced in….that is horrible…poor little thing,I know he didnt make it although it didnt show it.

Joplin's was an EF5. I got to see a few months after the cleanup, there was no grass, no trees, just bare dirt and a few buildings they rush fixed to give the town some services. Mile wide freaking lane of nothingness all the way towards the old hospital.

I was curious about this too so I checked: on a world-wide list ranking tornadoes by number of deaths, Joplin is 26th. The Tri-State is 2nd.

It's the closest thing to the mega tornado we've had.. Moore was also horrible but joplin was a bigger city and caused more damage/loss of life

​​​​@@agconsthat's because the tri state happened in 1920s in a time when weather warnings weren't nearly as good, people didn't have as much transportation ability and homes weren't as durable... all of these things have improved in the last 70 years and lower the death tolls from tornados significantly... Joplin death toll being as high as it was in this day and age is incredibly significant and I would argue very comparable to the tri state tornado, regardless of some ranking site. It's sort of like inflation, it's not really fair to directly compare cost from 1920 to 2020

Honestly storm chasing is a relatively safe job, all things considered. There have only been like, four recorded deaths for storm chases, and that was all during a single incident.

Yeah that wasn’t kinda fascinating but It’s not called the quad state tornado anymore because it wasn’t a single tornado but 2 separate EF4’s. But That aside, the fact that they never refer to them as EF tornadoes shows this documentary is from before 2007.

Insurance has nothing to do with the strength rating of tornadoes. That's a conspiracy theory. FEMA ans disaster funding also has nothing to do with the strength of a tornado. Especially in these upper echelon events, these tornadoes can take weeks to fully survey and rate. The time frames just don't line up for that to even be remotely true.

Therefore, if you need a more in depth explanation: I saw a KZfaq short of a tornado destroying a mans house, and some europeans who havent dealt with a powerful tornado (Since European tornados are most frequently EF0-EF1's and very rarely anything above.) said that Americans should start making their houses out of stone because we make "Cardboard houses." However, in the U.S we frequently have EF3-EF5's due to tornado alley, in turn, having more frequent powerful tornados that a stone house would not even be able to withstand seeing as a high end tornado can demolish a building that is made with concrete walls and steel beams and can make a car a big ball of twisted metal. Realistically, I should have used "Twisted ball of metal." instead of "To shreds" and "Demolish and level." instead of "Uproot." but technicallities. 🤷🏻‍♀️

It's the American agricultural heartland you want half the world to starve or you want people to live with severe weather

It’s called *tornado alley* not valley, and not every state in tornado alley has it as severe as others. I live in Texas for example we get tons of tornados every year but rarely above EF3 which doesn’t have super severe damage so it’s doable. Oklahoma however is basically well known for EF5’s at this point so I really couldn’t tell you why the hell they live there besides it’s cheap. You also have to think there’s severe weather everywhere in the US just different kinds. On the west coast you have earthquakes, east coast and part of the south has hurricanes, central has tornadoes, up north has blizzards. You kinda just gotta pick what you’re least scared of. Although if you grow up in a certain area you become desensitized to it by the time you’re an adult so you really don’t think to move away from it until/unless something catastrophic happens like being hit by a EF5 or a Category 5 hurricane.

Tornadoes can occur literally everywhere, they're just more concentrated in tornado alley. Besides, everywhere is prone to disasters. What you're talking about is unrealistic.

I absolutely hate metric measures. Imperial measures made far more sense - however, I got an Aussie "rough n' round' measure for temps, and kilo's: our body temp is 98.6 F, or 37 C. other close-enough IE's: 25C - double, add twenty - twenty five is close enough. Weight: 1 kilo = 2.2 pounds. I still hate kph conversion.
