I remember Sandy well. My part of CT was slammed with an ice storm that wreaked havoc. In Oct, the leaves were still on the trees & the damage of power lines was across the state. Everything was chaos. The trees downed, nothing was opened in our town, no groceries, gas, etc. Luckily, we had a small generator, a fair food store & wood stove & propane camp stove. It was 11 days for power to come back. At the time, we decided to become better prepared people & now keep emergency supplies ,food etc..and we felt lucky it could have been much worse. Never mistake inconvenient for an emergency.

Its horrible! My family and I lived on a Naval Base when one hit and base officials evacuated us families from the old townhomes and we had to stay in the base Gym because it didnt have large windows and was on higher ground.

I've been a hurricane chaser from home since 2004. The one hurricane I'm still fascinated with as of right now is hurricane Dorian. It's rare to see a Cape Verde hurricane reach 185 mile per hour winds and then to top it off, it stalled for over 24 hours on the same spot. and for it to stall where it did is like winning the lottery... although in this case the unlucky lottery

Really, they had to show the dead dog stuck in the bars that cover the windows to keep thieves out. I really hate seeing people & animals killed from storms or anythings else like this. Makes me sad😢.

What makes the eyewall of the storm even worse is that it's blowing in One Direction at one point and then the eye comes and then it starts blowing the other direction and that kind of just mixes up all the debris that was caused by the first half of the eye kinda like bending a piece of metal back and forth and back and forth until it breaks so everything that is leaning in One Direction from the first half is now going to be pushed and leaned in the other direction from the second-half and most likely dislodge at that point

I remember lots of people offering places for people to stay in their own homes. We offered to shelter someone as well.

Sea temperature of 30’C??? It’s 5’C here in summer. Air: 35’C, sea: 5’C. That is one painful swim. We don’t get sharks. But get jellyfish. I bet Antarctica gets ice jellyfish.

Ive been through 2 hurricanes! Not fun at all! Now I live in Northern Nevada so we dont have to deal with Hurricanes. But we do get severe dust storms, earth quakes, snow storms, and the occasional small tornados. I remember Katrina well! I was living in South Carolina at the time and it didnt hit us but we had a lot of rain.

I guess I'm what you call a prepped. I've paid dearly not being prepared for two weeks of power outage on an island of the Maine coast. Freezing and severe icing destroyed a huge network of power generators Quebec, New England, New York. Now I live in Florida and I'm prepared for hurricanes. Totally have plans.

Not living below sea level or just inches from it is probably a good place to start. Don't build levees, leave those areas. If people refuse to leave there is nothing you can do to help them. They chose their fate.

Animals and insects understand the danger that would come and leave the place, but human ignored even if there's a warning given to them. Then, when they are harmed and died they complain about why they died and suffered. 😢😢😢😢
