I’m really confused cause I’m seeing people telling her to stop being like Caleb because it’s distracting or it’s not her but she’s doing what she normally does? She normally has dual cameras, has jokes, a tone, nothing is different. And also, so what if her mannerisms become similar to his? They are together, there is nothing wrong with that. Eventually, you start acting like them a little bit. It’s like how you become your parents just a little different. So calm down because she’s still her and still pumping out great quality videos.

Thanks VSP! The POS then moved to MA with his daughter/wife and son & never answered for anything. He was also a widower, TWICE, not sus at all.

Totally true. I was a victim of CSA for years and no one ever believed me because “I would have told them sooner” (I was too young to talk), or “you didn’t scream” (freeze/fawn are also trauma responses to the threat of death or harm), etc. No one believed that my ex husband was either until I had to call my therapist from a locked bathroom with my toddler and baby with me and a chair under the door that it got worse and I didn’t know how to get out because I’d literally been beaten to the point of struggling to breathe. He notified authorities and my parents drove all the way to come get us and take us away and protect us. He came back once and beat my friend and told me he’d do it again if I ever pressed charges, so it took me years to.

My father was a guard at Dorchester Penitentiary for 30 years and was there when Roch was brought to the prison. Dad rarely talked to us about work, but he did say that you could tell by looking at Roch Theriault’s eyes that he had no soul and was one of the creepiest people he had ever encountered in all his years as a guard. He worked with serial killers, pedos, and just about every other sick individual, so for him to say that gave me the ick in a big bad way.

As the adult child of an SDA, I appreciate how you worded your description and that it’s a breeding ground for cults. As I’ve been deconstructing over the past 5 years, I’ve come to believe that it’s a prime ground for victimization. I’ve been in a healthy marriage for several years now and in retrospect I can see how my childhood training made me believe that I deserved what happened to me, and that the man in my life was always correct. I appreciate how Kris always emphasizes that it’s never the victim’s fault and it’s a great reminder even decades later. It’s sad what people can justify under the name of religion. Great deep dive!

I first heard about this cult on a true crime podcast and since then it didn't let me go. It is so undescribably cruel and horrible what this man did to his followers. Another detail that you didn't mention is that he moved his whole cult to a region in Canada, where English was (and I believe still is) spoken and he was the only one who could speak English so that his members where even more isolated. Thank you for covering it in such a respectful way.

Hearing stories like this, and many others, back up a core belief I have, and one that needs way more attention. And that's this, the, by far, number one problem in the world is bad parenting. Nothing does more damage than people having kids, who either don't have the ability, the means, or the capacity to adequately care, and teach kids.

I'm actually impressed by how many cult leaders seem fundamentally unlikable and despicable. Thinking, especially, of Keith Raniere, (Nxivm), and really BOTH of the Twin Flames leaders, although especially the guy. I have no idea how they managed to appeal to so many people. I've felt nothing but instinctual revulsion, upon watching footage of them. Although of course I get that they used ample manipulation strategies, gained people's adoration gradually, likely love bombed them at first, etc. But still.. EWWWWW!! Obvious narcissists, who do a SERIOUSLY bad job of hiding their narcissism, to the point that it is easily detectable, and turns me off IMMEDIATELY. Those are just my own sensitivities, though. I do get it more with someone like Teal Swan, (she seemed to me very interesting and knowledgeable, at first glance), and even someone like Marshall Applewhite, who did indeed seem STRANGE, and possibly not completely human, which was exactly how he sold himself, and what his cult members wanted. I also don't get it with the Jehovah's Witnesses governing body. They all seem SO smugly condescending! Like they think all their followers are stupid, and they are superiors, talking to mere children! I get offended, just looking at them.

I despise cult leaders. I also find it very telling of just how stupid people are that so many are able to be convinced of such bewilderingly crazy stuff. Religion in general is evidence enough, but then I see things like this and I’m just amazed at how mindless people can be. That in no way justifies or minimizes the evil of what these leaders are capable of. Why do all of these cults seem to have weird incestuous family vibes, even when they're not related? They're all "married" to him, but they're also his "children", and they call him Pappy. And most of these cults feel like the same story, different characters, repeating over and over.

It's unbelievable how quickly things escalated once he decided the rules no longer applied to him. A part of me doesn't want to believe that a person could actually do these things, and a bigger part of me is afraid because he actually did. Most humans are decent people, but man are there some absolute dumpster fires out there, and that's an insult to dumpster fires! I do my best not to wish ill of anyone, but I'm honestly glad he went the way he did. Thanks for covering this, and for reacting honestly and openly. You don't just tell the story; you say what we're all thinking instead of sanitizing it. Looking forward to the next monster you cover.

I can go on but I hope she continues these deep dives.
