Jose Bautista is responsible for the most trademark moment in the 2015 postseason. The Blue Jays had a showdown with the Texas Rangers in a winner take all Game 5. This game would eventually spark controversy between the two franchises. The ball was hit far, but the bat flip was even more majestic. Watch to see the events that preceded this iconic home run, and how improbable this inning was, from start to finish.

You need to include the craziness of the top of the 7th as well.......that full inning is THE craziest inning in post season history.

@@Cam23 There was so much more to it as well. The odd call on the toss back to the pitcher in the top of the inning started it off. Then the umpire meeting, and the beer can toss, the call for calm, which resulted in benches clearing. It had everything.

I worked across the street from the Rogers Centre (SkyDome) when it happened. My parents were at the game. It was an amazing moment for Toronto sports. ⚾ The next season in 2016, Edwin hit a huge walk-off blast to beat the Orioles in the wild card game. I was outside of the open dome and could hear how loud the crowd was. The Jays would go on to sweep the Rangers in an ALDS rematch. Great rivalry between the two teams. 🙌 Your channel is awesome brother! I've been watching a lot of your videos about the great players I grew up watching in the 90s. So much nostalgia. I hope your channel grows to what it deserves. Thanks, I'll be watching more. 🙏

What people forget about this is that the Blue Jays also had to come back from a 2-0 series deficit by winning two on the road to even get to game 5

Half the drama of this story is how the rangers got up 3 to 2 in the top of the inning. As my bud says "THE BALL DONT LIE"

Sick rewind, Cam! Is this where the nickname "Joey Bats" came from?
@Cam23

Thanks Hatbilly! You would think that nickname came from this, but it actually came from a fan’s sign back from his Pittsburgh days, and the “Joey Bats” moniker stuck

This was ICONIC. Love the moment. Love the bat flip. We are never gonna get anything like this again with pitch clocks and everyone being so offended by celebrating. They don't injure people for touchdown dances in football. Or steph hitting a 3 over someone. Enjoy this shit. Will be very very few and far between.

You’re absolutely right. I wanted to mainly cover this half inning because the focus was Bautista’s big moment. To be fair there’s so much to try and cover in one game. The video would have to be 30 minutes long to properly explain everything that happened. I appreciate your feedback though!

The reason that Bautista tossed his bat like that was because of what happened in the top of the inning. Your analysis completely ignores this.
@Cam23
@Cam23 Жыл бұрын
Bautista said himself he got caught up in the heat of the moment and doesn’t know himself why he did that, so why would I attribute it to the top of the inning if that wasn’t his motive?
@mattifolks
@mattifolks Жыл бұрын
@@Cam23 This is an analysis video. You are free to attribute motives to people if they are backed by evidence. I watched the game live and have re-watched it several times since then. The controversy in the top of the seventh inning absolutely contributed to the moment, wether Bautista chooses to admit it or not. The fans especially were primed for an eruption, so when we slowly, inexorably approached the moment with error after error and the game was suddenly tied, his 1-1 blast released a torrent of emotional energy from everybody involved. There were of course some personal rivalries and deep friendships involved between several of the Hispanic players which contributed as well, but this old white guy isn’t going to try and analyze that part of the story here or anywhere else. I think if you go back and watch the game again yourself you may just agree, but I’m the end it’s just one man’s opinion… Great channel btw. Don’t take my criticism as an attack please, just a piece of advice from a life-long student of the game.

The video is fine the way it is. You want to write a 2 hour movie, go to Holllywood and stop assuming here what you do not know. Overcoming the series deficit could have been more a motivation. Maybe the OP shouldve mentioned all possible motivations and percentage for each? Oh wait, Joey was already quoted on the bat flip.
@mattifolks

In the description, he states "Watch to see the events that preceded this iconic home run..." and then completely ignores the top half of the inning, where events occurred that directly related to the reaction to the moment by the fans. Did you actually watch the game? I watched it live and have re-watched a couple of times since and the top of the inning is a critical aspect in the emotions of the moment.@@cbdyna

@@mattifolks You have a problem listening, and only continuing with insisting on your version. Get over yourself, dude. Nobody but you cares about a drawn out / supposed explanation of your Hollywood imagination, when Bautista already said he wasnt sure. Did you not hear the OP state this to you? And even if that was Bautistas main motivation, the video is fine without it. Go make your own video with that included if you think it is necessary, so nobody but you cares to watch it. You must be great at parties.
