I tell friends stories from the FGC. Friends who aren't even into esports, but are just bored. I spin the tale the way thescore does and it almost *always* gets them hooked in, eventually watching nearly an hour of highlights, amazing comebacks, crazy tournament runs, and unbelievable domination across multiple games. It's very, very effective.

Well unlike team eSports games, where blame and glory can be shared and pined down on someone else, here, that its not possible. You(the player) are the solo response for the outcome be it a Victory or a loss, it will be all "you". It might be little over reacting, but as time goes on, sometimes a player will carry an entire nation on its backs through Top8 all the way to the top.

LOL, just by the description of both types of Men I just gave you, if either one of them had to be chosen as "Gey" it would be Men like you, who won't let others seem them cry because of what they might think. The MOST important thing to remember about Daigo vs. JWong, is that Justin had done this EXACT THING in the previous round, to close out his victory. So Daigo, KNOWING that Justin would fish for an errant action --> SA II --> clear victory......would do things that LOOKED like he might "do something", but in every instance he would *also* be tapping forward. (For the kids at home? This is how you parried. A fair amount of before/after frame data to work with, but it was PRETTY hard to reflexively *parry* things, and harder to get the timing for a red-parry, so....you pretty much had to KNOW it was happening, or was hard-coded to know when the block --> parry timing was occuring, which was SO precise that you couldn't counter-correct on Chun-Li's SA II.) So Daigo KNEW he was in the same position, and was reflexive-parrying on every "tic" that Chun-Li was offering. Eventually, Justin gambled, Daigo hit the first parry, and CONTINUED TO HIT THE RIGHT TIMING TO PARRY THE REST OF THE 15 HITS.... .....AND ALSO HIT THE BIGGEST COMBO HE COULD, WHICH -- seriously, I'unno if anyone has done the math on it or, but I'm curious -- WAS EXACTLY THE NECESSARY AMOUNT OF DAMAGE TO WIN THE MATCH. (And was preeeeetty hard to do, on the fly, with charge-buffering and reflexive reactions to stuffs that was bein' thrown at you, and g'aaaaaaaaaah!)

You actually need to parry slower than the strikes would usually hit (about 1/4 speed) with a slightly longer gap before the 2nd round of kicks, to be fair it is a lot easier with an arcade stick or if you 'tap' the analogue stick if you don't have an arcade stick . Parrying in this game is satisfying

I wish the narrator had gone into a bit more detail about Evo moment 37. I've read a bit about it and it's not just that Daigo did the unreal parry it's that 1) he baited Justin into it by feeding his super meter with fireballs he could absorb 2) Justin said later that nobody even knew that was possible and had never seen anything like it. It makes the moment even more ridiculous.

At the very least Brandon, it shows why we love games. This was back in a time where so many people didn't get 'why we loved games' 'why play them so much' 'games are for kids & they are easy.' Its the community, the amazing feeling of managing to do the impossible just when you needed too, when you're on 1 hp against that final boss. It takes skill even to complete a single player game on hard, and this is the peak of brilliant skill. Moments like this are why game developers found the inspiration to make more multiplayer games which are everywhere today. They did change games as we know it, inspired many and made others respect what we do. So you know, it'd be nice if gamers at least took notice.

@Charlie L. The easiest fighting game out is FighterZ right now. It's easy to learn but high level comp is still hard and tough.

the daigo parry is and will always will be the best gaming moment of all time... nothing can come close to it, it singlehandedly reignited the FGC craze, and its just so fckin cool.

This is such a great video. I'm mostly a smasher and I don't really know much about the SF scene and this video does an awesome job at catching me up on FGC history. Beautiful work!

MOMENT 37!! I was there with a few of my cousins and friends. It blew the roof off. Everyone was talking about it after. It was the only thing that was talked about avidly. The hype was so real.

I have never seen any of these moments from EVO and must say the composition of the video and setups for each match were absolutely brilliant in order to put the matches in context. It is in my opinion documentary quality. Well done theScore esports, take my sub

@@andrewnunn681 He sort of made himself into a heel before. Jigglypuff isn't a flashy character and people thought Hbox learned only one thing to do well (the Rest kill) and was otherwise shit. The feud with the funny and charismatic Mang0 didn't help either. So Hbox relished in being booed and shitting on the crowd and being some kind of comic villain for some time. Still not nearly as bad as leffen tho.

Manahyde I still think his hate is bs. He wouldn't of thought to be a heel if there wasn't people booing him. Like, he is a top jigglypuff, there isn't much of those. They should be impressed.

ya. the level of difficulty to do that is INSANE. I watch Maximilian dude tried to replicate it in the comfort of his own house and it took more than 130 TRIES. LMAO Daigo did that in one try on the tournament stage

and even Daigo himself enjoys that moment. When the two are brought together for a showmatch ten years later, Daigo did the exact same thing again. When the round ended (Justin won this time), Daigo, normally calm and collected, can't help but chuckle at himself for being awesome.

A few more weeks! i've watched every EVO since vanilla SF4 came out, and witnessed all of these amazing moments (besides #37 in 2004 obviously) live. I'm too busy this summer to fly out to Vegas, but I can't wait to spend the weekend having like 6 tabs open on twitch. The FGC has soooo many great moments that are still being made, and I'm so happy that live tournaments are back.... online just ain't the same.
