The moment that we all know when it comes to delivering Ellie to Tommy but at the very last second Joel changes his mind and he doesn't give Ellie away. You can see how much Ellie is happy for that and Joel also knows the special bond between them at this point. I made this edit to show it to you this emotional moment and I hope you like it, subscribe for more and share it with your friends.

Next episode when Ellie rescues herself and is reunited with Joel is so emotionally wrenching. To see their relationship solidly solidified as father-daughter, fighter-warrior in the trenches, and now savior of each other. The most endearing yet haunting aspect of Joel-Ellie relationship is that they save each other, many times over. Ellie saved Joel by breathing life into him, making him feel again - whether that be paternal love or fear of losing (even Tess and people who spent way more years with Joel Couldnt melt his protective armor), while Joel saved Ellie physically a few times but more importantly emotionally offering a safe harbor when she saved herself physically in a desperate act of brutality. 💜

No. That’s not the one scene that shows you the most. The one scene that shows you the most how much Joel truly cares about Ellie is when he rescues her from the cannibals after being separated, finds her breaking down into tears after having to hack this man to death in self defense, and his first instinct is to grab her close and say “oh, baby girl…” I teared up bad. Almost started crying. My wife did cry. In that one instant, that wall that Joel had been building around his heart for the last twenty years comes crashing down as he, Ellie, and all of us gamers see how much he truly cares for her at this point. She IS a daughter to him in his eyes, and there’s no mistaking it after we see this.

@buccaneercat
@buccaneercat Жыл бұрын
The way Joel shows his compassion here just tops the series. The whole game he’s kind of a hardass, so seeing him show hints of gentility and humanity just allowed scenes like this to feel that much more powerful. The series did a decent job somewhat replicating this scene, but it wasn’t nearly as good and felt incredibly rushed. There was no emotional build up having Ellie run away like she did in the game, the argument was decent but fell flat of the power the game had, and the payoff.. well, I feel like they sacrificed the subtlety and tenderness of this scene to make it somewhat humorous for the series.

@buccaneercat

@@madelinegarber7860 Trust me. The game handles things a lot slower and more meaningfully. The game wrecks you emotionally. The series is good, but it doesn’t hold a candle to the power of the game. That’s not to say the series isn’t powerful… it’s just, it doesn’t go that extra mile like the game does.
@madelinegarber7860
@madelinegarber7860 Жыл бұрын
@@buccaneercat I guess that’s one of the advantages of being able to play through it at your own pace. But one thing you can’t change my mind on is the Bill and Frank storyline. I way prefer the show version. One thing the show has over the game is the whole thing’s audio described. From what I’ve seen of the game, only the cut scenes are so I feel like I’d miss a lot as a blind player. That doesn’t mean the game isn’t better, it just means the show is a more complete experience for me.

Delivery was off on a number of occassions in the show. Most noticeable was the the line "You'd only come after her" when Joel kills Marlene. Pedro Pascal absolutely butchered the delivery there, on the other hand in the game it's spot on like so many other scenes in the game that are greatest pieces of voice acting for example another one is just before this cutscene I think when Joel says to ellie "you are on mighty thin ice" or something like that. As much as I am enjoying the show, it doesn’t come close to the game to hit in those emotional moments. And this right here was one of my top five moments of the game. Because Ellie was feeling so rejected by Joel and they had that emotional interaction in the house when she was telling him how everyone she cares about dies and that she only feel safe around him. Like that scene, even though Joel was cold hearted towards her. That is when he realize how much you really cared about her.

Big fan of most of the show's interpretation so far, but the game handled the Tommy section SO much better. Felt rushed in episode 6.

The facial capture is breathtaking. Some serious serious talent at Naughtydog. I wouldn’t expect anything less, which is why when i play any of the games i go way off the beaten path. I hope the multiplayer map will be available offline to explore.

I played the game when it came out on PS3. I was a kid, maybe 12 years old or even less, I don't remember, and when I got to this very scene I remember I said "JHC Ellie's face looks so REAL". The graphics quality was already insane back on PS3

HBO did a great job with the Ellie/Joel conversation and how Joel changes his mind. However, it’s miles better in the game. How he first destroyed Ellie and then her emotional change when deciding to take her is just way better in the game.

I don't think it was great at all.... It makes no sense that he would lash out at her in that context. In the game, she risked her life running away and put Joel on edge. Sarah triggers him in part because he was already worried of Ellie dying in that moment. In the show though? It comes across as petty and a complete overreaction
@igloo2158
@igloo2158 Жыл бұрын
@@sivad1025 Absolutely the worst take ever. But you do you bruh. It had nothing to do with her running off. My gawd. He’s afraid of failing her. He’s getting too close to her and is afraid to open up, so he pushes her away. It’s a defense mechanism. You must be young, so it’s ok.

@@igloo2158 Obviously that's why he was mad. I didn't say he was mad because she ran off. I said that's why he was _on edge._ Rewatch the scene. He is terse with Ellie from the start. In the show, he's pretty relaxed until she brings up Sarah

Totally agree. It makes him a total coward and a jerk. He already knows what she wants, but he pins the decision on her to get an out and lessen his potential guilt. "My mind's already made up" is such a heart warming paternal line.

His decision always has me torn. He could of saved humanity and let society eventually rebuild but would Ellie of been okay with it if she was conscious to give consent? I think that’s what solidified it for him. Plus, Ellie validates in TLOU2 that even after she was made aware of the lie that nothing changed as far as her wanting to avenge Joel which means she has to be grateful for choosing to keep her alive. He wanted her to live and experience things. It tickled Joel that she had never seen basic things like monkeys or a giraffe from a zoo. he just wanted her to live
