What I've found when lifting my Cherokee is that the wheel base shortens the more you lift. At 4.5" of lift (currently) the wheelbase shortens about 3/4". Doesn't sound like much, it all happens in the front. By using adjustable control arms, it enables you to re-center the front wheel in the opening. Maintaining the original wheelbase also helps keep your factory handling even when lifting. Hope this helps. Looking forward to more on this build, God bless, stay well.

Oh, so that's why the front wheels look a little too far back I guess.
@a1racer441

Yep that’s why adjustable control arms are part of the lift kits for Jeep’s, most people unfortunately match the stock length instead of centering the wheel.

They aren't called control arms though. They are lower links or torsion bars
@broncodude6299
@broncodude6299 Жыл бұрын
That’s the reasoning I used when I lifted my ‘97 TJ. 2” was my limit w/o getting adjustable lower control arms. My budget dictated that I use a 2” kit and my Dana 35 rear axle dictated that I use 33” tires so the 2” kit worked. 4” kit would def require the adjustable arms. Next, PLEASE cut that dang headliner out 😂

As for the headliner, a few well-placed magnets will do until you figure out what you want to do with it. We had a '63 corvair and it only took one magnet right in the middle to keep the headliner off of everyone. 😉

Nice work Rudy, it's coming together a bit at a time , the door strikers were a weak point from factory even new, I have seen them repaired under warranty when the vehicles were less than 2 yrs old, my buddy loved these trucks, and had probably 10 or 12 since his first new one in 1985 , same as the head liner they gave out after 6/7 years, they are still cool and the best part was always the powertrain, great video look forward to the next video👍

A tip for tricky repair panels like that: Cover the hole with masking tape, then run your dirty finger around the opening and it will transfer the outline of the hole to the tape. Then remove the tape, trim with scissors, and you have a perfect template for your repair panel. Just stick it to the metal, trace it, and cut it out.
