I like to train with live weapons from time to time but one thing I would is that make sure you are wearing foot protection in case you drop a blade by mistake. I would rather a live blade fall on my shoe than a bare foot. Thing about training with live weapons is yes it is more dangerous and there's always the risk of getting cut however when you train with the live blade you are getting used to handling the weight of a real live weapon versus a weapon that is plastic or wood that may be way lighter in weight. One thing I've done in the past With my students that wanted to train with real machetes and that was to run 2 layers of electrical tape down the length of the blade, that way you are still practicing with a full weighted weapon but in case you slip you don't get cut because the blade is covered with tape. When I use training weapons I either use wood, aluminum, or high impact plastic such as what is used in Cold Steel training weapons. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Salamat po

A really like training solo with live blades... It's Surely not a beginner training but it help a lot in terms of blade allinement and developing proper form and cut mechanics

I don’t do it all the time, or even a lot but I think training with live blades is ok, as long as you pay attention and be safe with it. Move slower than you normally would. Like you said, it really helps you to appreciate the form and dynamics of how to move because nobody (well, almost nobody) wants to cut themselves.

Very nice. Whether it's with karambit, spear, sword, or saber, I always start new techniques slowly and usually with a synthetic material training blade. Once I have the "shape" of the technique worked out, I speed it up until it flows. Then I switch to metal practice blades. Slow back down and then speed up. Mistakes hurt more than with synthetics but less than with live blades. I have live blades to work with, but honestly don't practice that much with them. I will when it comes to cutting, of course. Proper practice and progression minimizes, but does not eliminate accidents. Not a big fan of seeing my own blood. I've seen the show-offs and fools with live blades and don't want anything to do with them.

I like to solo train with my live blades because they produce a wind noise that lets me know if I have proper edge alignment.

You say the name of the style you practice often, but I can't seem to find anything about it. I'm sure I'm just not spelling it right. Can you tell me the name of the style here and where I can learn more about it? I practiced Inosanto's Modern Arnis.

@@mcanastacio live blades are great but i think its better if you work with a training knife for safety because in a real fight first start to realize that this is real like this is actually not a game you have two choices live or die and if you experience that it makes training more real and if you want to go home at the end of the day your just better off being safe
