Lysell is definitely going to get an opportunity to play RW at the NHL level. He’s not a “lock” for that role this season, by any means, but the opportunity will be there and he will get a chance to take the reins. Merkulov is more questionable as a future NHL’er, but he will also be given an opportunity (at least in training camp) to prove that he’s on par with post-surgery Matt Poitras for a NHL third line center role. At worst, Merkulov continues to provide good center depth for the Bruins at the AHL level.

I think the thing many fans are unaware of (although I don’t understand why they’re unaware) is that there are only about 20 NHL skaters right now that can be considered “true #1 centers”. Edmonton employs two of those twenty centers, and there are 32 NHL franchises. That means about a dozen NHL teams don’t have a “true #1” center. Elias Lindholm is comfortably among the next tier of centers that are “good enough” to play 1C, especially when flanked by skillful wingers. Bruins fans were spoiled by Bergeron for a long, long time, and unfortunately the gaffes at the 2015 draft still haunt this roster. That said, Boston has MUCH better center depth (Lindholm, Zacha, Coyle, Geekie, Poitras, Frederic, Merkulov, Beecher, Kastelic) now than they did 12 months ago.

8 mill is way to much for Sways. Really what has he accomplished?

I think your #s for Letourneau are quite high. In 3 years at Mich. Beecher never had more than 16 pts. Frederic had 32pts. his freshman year but, he played a lot on UW's 1st line. I doubt Letourneau will sniff the first line or PP either. I think 5 goals and 10 assists would be great in his first year.

Agreed. The most important things for Letourneau during his freshman year probably have little to do with the scoresheet. More important barometers will include things like: how receptive to feedback is he? How does he handle adversity and setbacks, psychologically? How does he handle distractions away from his home environment? How is his work ethic and training dedication? I suppose one could argue that if he’s doing all of these things correctly that it will show up on the scoresheet, but I don’t think that is necessarily true. He is going to be playing alongside better teammates and against better opponents than ever before, and thus he may have a diminished role compared to what he was accustomed to in the past. That’s okay, too. With a longterm “project” type prospect like Letourneau, one wants to see consistent, gradual improvement, year over year, even if there are hiccups along that path. I know some sports fans are accustomed to seeing a first round draft pick make immediate or near-immediate impact; this does happen in the NBA and NFL, but only *very* rarely in the NHL. Fans should be hopeful that Letourneau makes some NHL impact in 2029 or 2030. Any sooner than that would be unexpected and amazing.

Evan given his size Letourneau looks like he could potentially start on 4th line in a couple of years like Marchand did are their drawbacks to that approach?
@BahamutBreaker
@BahamutBreaker 17 күн бұрын
There are definitely drawbacks to that approach. Marchand had four full seasons of Canadian major junior hockey and played for Team Canada’s U19 team; he never attended college. Letourneau has only played (private school) high school hockey. If you’re trying to project when Letourneau might appear regularly in the NHL - if he ever does, at all - it’ll likely be in 2029. It’s funny, to me: Evan is frequently (and correctly) repeating, over and over again, that fans will have to be patient on Letourneau. And yet despite that, here you are in the comments asking, “YoU tHinK hE wiLL bE rEAdy iN a cOUpLe YeaRS?”
