Dude, I started watching you as a way to pass time after I had an accident shortly after buying my first bike, a Royal Enfield Himalayan, today after many months went by and Ive watched many of your videos for the first time I had to emergency brake like you taught me to without knowing, Im fine because you taught me learning how to brake was almost as if not more important that knowing how to drive fast, Your video saved me from crashing or hitting the back of a pickup truck in the highway, Than you man, for real! Stopping from 25mph to 20ft is a real challenge. This requires an average latency of 1.04G. If we are to start braking without cheating, just after crossing the marker, not earlier, then the braking deceleration must be even greater because before we get this deceleration, the suspension must fold, the tire cross-section must increase, etc.. In such conditions it is almost impossible, but we have to practice. Stoopie at the end helps - takes kinetic energy.

Thank you for such an informative video, you come through like no other, and I have question, while doing this technique how should we posture our body for best effect while bike is dipping forward? Do we dip forward with it for more front wheel pressure, which may cause it to lift back wheel up too high?, or..do we stay upright with our body?or do we lean back a little to keep bike from possibly tipping forward, but may defeat whole purpose of weight on front wheel? I use this technique a lot but want to know the best way to execute it. Once again, thanks again.

My daily commute has a fair number of 50 to stopped sections and often I've got no one behind me so I practice exactly this. I just aim to stop far enough ahead of my required point that if I screw up I don't run the light or wind up in the intersection at all. It's been educational regarding just how big a difference there is between what FEELS like a lot of braking and the actual limits.

Hi @MotoJitsu I watched your videos and thank you for all the work and knowledge. As a newbie i am a bit confuse. In my country when you want to pass your driving license the driving school will teach us this : 1st apply a rear break to balance the motorbike (straight position looking far away) 2 Squeeze the front break (not grab) at 100 percent the decrease. 3 at the end of the breaking relase slowly the break when arriving to a full stop. The reason behind that is that the teachers says there is no danger of blocking the wheels at high speed. But when arriving at low speed just before to a complete stop if you brake hard that where the risk of slipping with the front wheel occurs. So i guess you understand my confusion as a newbie one one side you advise increasing power they advise decreasing. Would you please adress this because i'm sure there is a perfect explanation. Maybe one is for more advanced riders or maybe i am missing something.

I stopped and fishtailed, scared the living crap out of me. I controlled the bike but still that sudden stop got me good being a rookie.

Hate to be a bit of a troll, but you should only be in 1st when STOPPED in a controlled situation. If it's an emergency stop then you should let the engine help to reduce speed along with the braking even if it stalls, and if you're attempting a stoppie you can use the rears air-time to stand on the pegs and throttle-up for the touchdown out of 2nd and sit back down hard for rear traction...taking care not to over throttle and whip up the front too much. Even my YZF-R125 with ABS can manage that.

I'm not understanding how getting off of the back brake would help you stop faster? Even if you are on the front brake and applying the correct pressure, why would less back brake increase your braking?
@JuxZeil
@JuxZeil Жыл бұрын
I think he's just trying to help peeps learn controlled front braking as apposed to doing street stoppies. When executing an emergency stop you should always leave the engine engaged with the drive-gear(you should never be ashamed of stalling when it's your life and/or someone else's on the line), apply hard on the rear to reduce as much velocity as poss, and when you feel the rear skidding or the ABS activating(almost instantly after engaging the rear brake/s 100%) you should then apply his technique with the front brake. The rear braking can help dull the power or weight shift to the front quite a bit, helping you shorten the braking distance and rear-end lift.
@domi7859
@domi7859 Жыл бұрын
talking about abs bikes he is 100% wrong about that part. the abs computer can stop a bike way faster than any human beeing ever could. but, if you are on a non abs bike or are training to ride a non abs bike, then yes you shouldnt let abs start working, because once abs starts working you would most likely crash on a non abs bike. with abs, in an emergency, squeeze those brakes as hard as possible. i sometimes do emergency stops from different speeds so i know how much distance i need to stop (to decide if to swerve or stop) and in those situations i always let abs do the work, never even got close to a stoppie or to going over the handle bar, even at speed like 100kmh and more
@JuxZeil
@JuxZeil Жыл бұрын
@@domi7859 Yup. I would like to add that learners should IMHO start on a non-ABS bike. Teaches you fast how to control balance under braking and the breaking itself and not to rely on the tech, it would also be on a bike you can live through a drop and drag, that can help you learn to push off of a bike and roll out of a fall too, saving your skin and your ankles. Also, there are differing grades of ABS, and even my YZF-R can slip out at the front in the right conditions because it's only linked by accelerometer and wheel lock-up. I see some peeps on here have proper ABS with tilt sensors and driver assist hardware, so every bike has to be learnt each time you change it for proper control.

If you are going to go ??? speed you need to have emergency braking experience at those speeds you roll at. It WILL eventually be a matter of life and death, yours, theirs, or both. @@nfsfreak98 absolute nonsense, if you apply front brake first and consistently increase pressure more so than the back, there is zero reason to NOT be using both brakes. Yes, the front tire needs pressure to increase surface contact area, but to think you need to fully release back brake to achieve maximum force is absurd. Yes, you’re right, if you fully press and lock the back wheel (assuming a very old bike with no ABS), then you’ll lock it up like a numbskull caveman. But assuming you use progressive brake pressure, you increase not decrease your stopping power.
@munin9530

wheels lock up easier when theyre off the ground, the rear brake is just gonna be easier to lock up so to compensate not locking up and potentially skidding, you'd have to find the right pressure which can mean letting off some pressure. practice and you will feel it

@aps-pictures9335 Жыл бұрын
@@munin9530 kinda the point I was making. There’s a huge difference between ‘letting off entirely’ and mediating that pressure but still using back brake. In fact, you want back brake pressure to stop the rear wheel lifting.

@@aps-pictures9335 Correct, also pull in the clutch at the same time as applying the brakes rapidly and increasingly. Surface contact area is only a resultant of the load shifting forward, the higher the deceleration the more load.Surface contact area has no bearing on stopping distance, only down force and the coefficient of friction matter.The laws of friction have not changed since they were formulated in 1699. frictional resistance is proportional to the total pressure between the surfaces, It depends upon the nature and roughness of the surfaces,it is independent of the area of contact, it is independent of the speed of sliding, it opposes motion.

@@michaeldog3459 this has nothing to do with feelings, the fact of the matter is that ABS is an amazing tool that saves tons of people from crashing whether they are on a bike or in a car. Not everyone is skilled enough to do threshold braking and in some instances even the most seasoned of riders can grab too much brake and cause their front to slide out which would not happen with ABS. Sure, you can disable it to be faster on track, but for riding on the street there is absolute no reason to do such a thing.
